#8 -- For our love, every person that gives a lot less... someone else gives a lot more----it surely balances out, so I place no price on the songs, music.... or moments. I busk for the joy it brings me and the listener in our moment. Like the most often asked question, my favorite song is the song I'm presently playing, or about to play. I play for the time to play music and song, not money. That approach has never disappointed my needs.
I agree with this 🙂 I don't busk for the money. I like to busk for the kids dancing in front of me for the people who look at me saying "thank you" only with the eyes! To me if someone requests a song I'm more than happy to play it, and only seeing that person appreciating my singing warms my heart. But sometimes few people make a request only to take pictures or videos without giving back any feeling, so I just wanted to point out this

Also, #4 reminded me of a time I was busking in NYC and a lady came running from across the subway platform and said, "You sound so good!!" and opened her wallet. Her face dropped and she said "Oh no, I only have a $5 bill, I don't have any $1s..." Then she looked in my case and saw someone had given a $5, and then awkwardly scurried off. Hahaha, there are all kinds of people! I'm with you though, the many small joys that come from doing this are the real pay off. The extra coin is nice though.

I was living in Lisbon last year, the police can be really strict there, sometimes they would confiscate people's instruments/amps, that's the worst. Fortunately that never happened to me. Also, there were so many buskers that you had to wait in line for hours before you could play. Galway seems like a very chill place compared to that!
@@BryantEnglishTV Yeah, that sucks :( I heard a lot of good things about Lagos actually, I was supposed to go there last year for busking but couldn't because of covid...
@@titolarios I was officially the first busker in Galway to break the amplification rule the morning after it was instigated. No one was bothered, and I never turn my amp up very loud, just enough to get the fingerstyle and/or lead guitar playing across. I don't know to what extent they've enforced that law since then, because I've been out of the country a lot since... but the amplification rule - for me - is more to do with just general awareness of space, and being polite with other buskers and local businesses. Apart from that Galway was always pretty relaxed about busking.

Pretty accurate from my experience. A lot of these aren't just part of busking but apply to just playing live. People wanting to play your instrument is annoying. I don't want some drunk dropping my guitar or pushing over my expensive synthesizer. I've busked many times at Balboa Park in San Diego. You have to have a permit to play music, juggle or do art. Hey Tito. I've been at it for a few decades now, and you have got it spot on. I don't mind people emptying their purses/pockets in my collection rag, as I'm not clever enough to be selective. One hate I can add; is when groups of (mostly drunk) people come up and say "that was really good"; then ask to have a go on my mic. When I say "no!", they then say that I'm "shit, and their mate is better than me. It defies logic, but I usually reply: "but they haven't got a mic", and carry on playing. I use the Shure WH20 headset mic. It's decent, and does away with a big clunky mic stand. Another is when I'm asked to play a song, and I reply "I don't know it", and they say "you do". Again logic would dictate that if I did, I'd play it, and take their money. Then they repeat their request as of I hadn't even spoke, or tell me I'm a shit musician cos I don't know it. It just makes me laugh now Most the time the craic's good though. Be lucky!
Or when they are like "how do you not know this song/this artist" and wont leave you alone with it. I mean like..bro, there are thousands of somewhat popular artists with dozens or hundreds of songs each. And I only have maybe 3 hours of repertoir. And that already took me 1-2 years to transcribe and learn. Of course- if I did nothing else for many years, it would certainly be feasible to play almost anything requested. But to just expect some random busking 23 yo dude to know exactly their favorite song and not believe him when he says he doesn't is just super stupid.
@@gregorgiebel1377 I hear you my friend. I have a few decades on you, and I can tell you that nothing changes. For the mischief, I usually say:- "I don't know that one, but I know one that sounds just like it", and then I play whatever I want to play. It sometimes gets a snigger from them around, and the askee is usually puzzled as to whether I'm taking the piss, or if I actually believe it sounds like it. Be lucky!
@@theunaccompaniedsenior I said this as someone who plays fiddle/banjo. Now that I’ve actually tried playing guitar I’ve changed my perspective. I think acoustic guitarists can use a small amp. As long as they are respectful to other buskers, and the general public. Making something so loud you can hear it down the other end of the street is in my opinion disrespectful to other buskers and the public. I am pro busking though. All the best to you in your travels!
The emptying the pursue part is so true. I had one woman one time who gave me a ton of coins. It was probably like 3€ or something. But most of it was copper. I counted that day and I had more than 2€ in copper. What am I supposed to do with that shit? I had to pick them out of the good coins one by one and throw into the huge glass full of copper coins I have in my room because I dont know how to get rid of them, as my bank doesnt accept them anymore. I dont even know why they still produce those copper coins if you cant get rid of them... maybe the idea with the busker aint too bad. I should probably take my multiple kg glass and empty it into some guitar case xD.
I think it all depends on people's experiences and their perspective. I have been poor for most of my life and struggle to pay my bills so I would be extremely grateful if someone gave me that. I would separate them roll them and take them to bank to cash. Even if it was just a little bit. I think it all adds up and helps,
@@jenniferpetrellicarslearni2265 yes, but its not like you cant get the money otherwise. On average I need to just play another song to get those 2€ and i'd rather do that than to get the paper, roll my cents and bring them to a bank. (And do they even accept rolled coins?) I pay for most things I can in coins and even 10 and 20ct is a pain to spend. Every time I buy something thats not too expensive I will spend 1-2€ in 10-20ct pieces to get rid of those. Anything below that is not even worth the time you need to get rid of it. I mean I have also regular gigs, but those pay for rent and anything I buy online. So everything else has to be payed for in cash. And if you spend like 30€ on something, you will most likely only use 2€ pieces, so you need to use even more small coins on your cheaper purchases. So in short: I feel like handling copper pieces is not worth the time. Just think about it. 36€ an hour is 1ct per second. 36€ an hour is very achievable, even with busking. So you have a coin that is worth 1s of work. Thats probably less time than it takes you to deal with it. We dont need a coin for 1s of work. Also not for 2, 5 is debatable.
A couple more I would like to add. One don't ask me for a light well I am playing and singing. 2 please don't try to fist bump me well I'm playing I appreciate that you enjoy the music but at least let me finish the song. And 3 my guitar case is not your garbage can
1 A weather keeps changing constantly 1 yes happens all the time most reason is they want to do the same but haven't got the confidence to progress from the bedroom 2 defeniatly agree 3 the scammer if you have a large amount you become a target keep big coins out 4 agree 5 in the UK we have laws on amplification which isn't allowed in normal shop hours. 6 if a person wants change no problem remember every penny counts. 8 change makes pounds the ole saying look after the pennies and the pounds roll up. 9 drunks yes a pain in the butt but be polite. I hate drug dependence people who nag the public for any change this on most occasions turn any profitable wealth a nightmare as the public tend to brush us the buskers under the same type. I usually have a float of change of a couple of pound in box at all times I tend to keep anything large a £ or euro out of the box. It's very easily to forget after making some good profit and this is where you may be a victim to the scammer.usual trick scammer comes along check out your takings disappear come back with colleague. The scanner comes to you getting your attention whilst there colleague does one on your takings. Always keep your wits about you at all times.this includes gear keep it at cheap as possible and don't go out with what you cannot afford to replace and mark all equipment with a invisible marker in case it goes to local 2nd hand shops when redeeming your items back keep a list incase anything gets robbed and as soon as possible inform all the second hand shops to look out for your gear and give them a list and keep on top of this every day or other day reminding them or just asking if anyone tried selling best to ask store manager if possible. And remember a penny is better in your pocket than anybody elses.its what you do with it that counts. I tend to think that most people don't realise how much time effort money laying by to make the busker perform and there is nothing worse than not to break even expecially on batteries for example. Anyhow happy busking out there from one busker to another Peace

It just makes me laugh now
Most the time the craic's good though.
Be lucky!
Busking is unpredictable! Take care!
Be lucky!
Great tip on the mic there
Hey!
I hope you are well.
Is that about using a headset mic, or not giving it to nutters?
Easy'!@@NeungView
Are you jacob koopmans love child?
wait whaaaat ? 🤣🤣🤣 @JacobKoopman
The list could be reduced to 1 problem. Humans. They suck. Fortunately not all of them. Peace.
#9 YOU'RE RIGHT. WE'LL MESS UP.
I,m 68 years old. I play country music. Am I to old to be a Busker?
You’re never too old to try something you love!
I’m against all forms of amplification while busking. Just my opinion.
While I agree, if I don't at least set up an amplifier (not even plugged in), folks have no clue what I'm doing.
I think you should be grateful for what you get, such arrogance especially when not many people carry cash .
A couple more I would like to add. One don't ask me for a light well I am playing and singing. 2 please don't try to fist bump me well I'm playing I appreciate that you enjoy the music but at least let me finish the song. And 3 my guitar case is not your garbage can
You've had people throw garbage in your guitar case???? Wow! I can't believe what nerve and how rude that is!
@@jenniferpetrellicarslearni2265 yes that has happened several Times. Or the put in junk that they have stolen from a dollar store
#8 UGH MAN....
1 A weather keeps changing constantly
1 yes happens all the time most reason is they want to do the same but haven't got the confidence to progress from the bedroom
2 defeniatly agree
3 the scammer if you have a large amount you become a target keep big coins out
4 agree
5 in the UK we have laws on amplification which isn't allowed in normal shop hours.
Anyhow happy busking out there from one busker to another
Peace
Wow, what an awesome response! Great advice very informative. Thank you!
@@jenniferpetrellicarslearni2265 thankyou
With the change, some people will try and use that as a way to steal off of you, so be wary
Put what you can afford at the time, if everyone did that, the case would be full, but as he said, don't ask for change. it's also distracting.
9 I hit subscribe
you understand thank you
It's so disrespectful people try to have a conversation by giving compliments in the middle of my show 🤬😡🤬
7 pocket watching nosey weirdos and they never tip🙄
Thank you sir 😎
💯👍
Come on people , buskers have to eat also and if your asking for videos and selfies and enjoying the vocals provide a gratuity. The arts won’t survive if you don’t support them . I believe if your a person who honestly love the artists and music you support them otherwise your not a mucin fan .
man thats a cheap person if they want change for there tip?? wow ... thats so cheap....lol
