I also learned about this tragedy from watching The Crown. As soon as the episode started in Wales I immediately knew there was going to be a tragic episode so I googled Aberfan to prepare myself but it still didn’t stop my heart from breaking. As a mother of two young boys my heart definitely goes out to all the children and their families. 😢
totally agree this was not an accident the people and the NBC knew about the spring under the heap and the NBC did everything it could to blame everyone else and donot forget they had the nerve to use some of the money people had donated for the clean up
Technically there's no such thing as "an accident", everything is avoidable but such is written and spoken language it offers nothing more than "accident" RIP to all 144 victims of this "tragedy".
As a mother, this tragic story made me cry so much. Those poor poor childeren terrified, gasping for air... It almost sounds unreal. My heart goes out to the parents of their sweet little childeren... What a cruel world we live in, discusting!!
this still brings me to tears I was 13 years old and in school in swansea South Wales the feeling all over Wales was of deep deep sorrow like a cloud had passed over our beautiful country
This is the most heartbreaking event that should have been avoided. God bless the community that still feel the pain and rest in peace to those who so sadly died that day.
I have also watched this episode of The Crown. Respects to everyone involved. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the pain. I was 8 years old at the time and still to this day remember my parents talking about it as they were from the UK only months of the tragedy occurred.
As coming from the Polish mining town as well, I felt such pain while listening to what happened in Aberfan, those young children were the age of my Mother. God bless their little hearts and all families who lost their beloved ones in this tragedy :(
It's binary. You can choose like or dislike. Those are the only two options. A dislike doesn't necessarily mean that you are negative towards this man or the people who died. You may very well just like how the story was shot, edited or produced. You might disagree with some of the claims. But your only option is like or dislike.
Mary R. So you think people should be ‘liking’ a tragedy that ends with the death of almost 200 children? Not everyone gets the kick from sad news that _you do_
julie Wallis education isn’t entertainment. Had the story been dramatized along fictional storylines in an effort to make a buck that would be a different story.
i was passing last week and felt that i had to call in to pay my respects, i was 11 at the time and it really affected me, i went to the gardens, very peaceful, i couldn't face going to the cemetery.
I was 9 in 1966 and that day, in fact one report from Mitchelmore ended my childhood. The people (from all over the world) responded. The officials (the queen and her ministers) were abject in their failure. Its not systems its people. I would always trust a neighbour than a Queens good champion. Both may fail me but I know, if it comes to it, who I will trust.
Never knew about such loss of life in the U.K. It must have been terribly difficult for him and families. 50 year's too late ,but my condolences to all those who lost a loved one. From British Gibraltar,U.K Overseas Territory.
i learnt about this tragedy after watching crown. i cried , those poor children and parents. i have cine to give my condolences and pay my respect i am so sorry for your loss .
Aberfan was a side recommendation on UA-cam last night. I never knew of the Aberfan disaster so I watched. Then just today I found out about The Crown, and the episode they had done on Aberfan. I never watch The Crown but found the episode on Netflix and just now watched the episode. Heartbreaking, and heartwrenching. I send my belated sincere condolences to all involved, and effected.
I'm from the US and I remember the disaster when it happened. I was the same age about as all those kids and I kind of thought "It could have been me."
My deep Condolences to the people of Aberfan! 🙏🏻 A lot of us didn’t know about them. How to forget? A horrible disaster that horrified me by watching on Netflix the Crown the disbelief of the political arrangements in place that knew the whole problem they were causing without even thinking about what could happen. The question I asked myself as I looked at these pictures after: « What happened to this village after? Is it that they have received help from the government or the crown? »
MistieBlue Research..the Government robbed them and the people suffered...they were even means tested to get access to grief assistance. Never will I forget.
I'm here because I can recall this tragedy clearly and one of the things that stayed with me was the fact that emergency services were prevented from getting to the site by rubber neckers blocking the narrow roads.awful.
Bc most of us didn’t know about the tragedy until we watched The Crown. It was before I was born. So we are coming here to pay our respects. Better late then never

Ur very welcome friend❤🙏🏾
@Definitely Not Tom
Bc that's where I lived ✌🏾
Survivor's guilt is a REAL trauma society needs to stop dismissing it
Never blame yourself for someone else’s mistakes
He blames himself for his good fortune. Which is ironically very unfortunate.
don't feel guilt, it was not your fault, you we just caught up in a disaster.
R.I.P to all 166 victims who lost their lives on 21st October 1966; May God Protect the Humanity against such tragedies!😢
May elune shine their path from the hereafter. The goddess watches over them.
If it is preventable, we need to stop using the word "accident". Error in judgement is so much stronger.
Thank you, diolch yn fawr. Such a strong statement but so true !!
@@lamsy1 this was not a accident it was a mass murder .so many young lives lost .r i p

Such a sad event...never heard of it growing up in uk i was born in 67..the crown covered the story so well . Rip too all those innocent lives lost.
This is the most heartbreaking event that should have been avoided. God bless the community that still feel the pain and rest in peace to those who so sadly died that day.
I never even knew that this happened before I watched The Crown. So devastating. 😢💔

Who put a dislike on such a tragedy?? Who are you?? Sad.....
Unbelievable I was thinking exactly the same

they choose dislike simply because they don't like this tragedy to happen.
@@mamanarafa1252 That's quite possible.

@@JulieWallis1963 I have deliberately clicked like to balance out someone's distastefulness.
I visited Aberfan in the 70s and the cemetery is heartbreaking to see.

So sad. And no one was prosecuted nor lost their job at the NCP?
It's disgraceful. All those children dead, and all the NCP cared about was saving their own skins. 😤😤
