When you said you were going to jump right in, I laughed! You really jumped right in and from your expression I could tell it lost you! Listen to the album version, then it’ll make more sense musically! It’s a great tune!
The song is kinda broken up for the video. It sounds more cohesive on the album…and is one of my favorites on the new album. BUT …Tyler didn’t wrestle as much with each song on this album like he has in the past. I love their Trench vibe more than anything. This was a more pop like, fluffy album as compared to their usual. No Chances is my favorite from Scaled and Icy

I gotta recommend you to watch the Outside live in Mexico, you can hear the drums clearly at the drop and see Tyler performing on the stage. I think the live version is more collected.
The music video ties heavily to the lore. There is Ned with his family and Tyler is finally able to control the bishops and not the other way around. (at least one of them)
Also, if you are able to watch the TOP live stream experience from 2021, I recommend that too. *I think you have to see all of the videos regarding this song. lol

I’m a huge twenty one pilots fan and I appreciate your honesty. Like others have said I think aligning the video to the whole Dema lore cost the song in a bit of continuity. The lore theory is that this whole album is produced by Dema, which means it isn’t in true twenty one pilots style. The creatures are first seen in Chlorine mv from their previous album. One of my favs on this album is Shy Away, again the music video has a lot of lore, you see the dragon (trash), and Tyler starts the mv like he doesn’t want to be there.

This song is the best on that album, in my opinion.
“What is happening” is a perfectly reasonable and valid response when delving into Dema and it’s lore.
The first comment I saw was someone basically explaining to you how it’s more consolidated as an audio track, and the video has lots of cinematics so they worked the audio around the video.
May I suggest just listening to the track solo w/o the video? It will flow and you’ll vibe and it will drop when you expect it to.
I honestly love this track! It’s one of my favorites off the new album.

great video to check out, so cinematic, song sounds a bit different to the album cos they brok it up for the video. the dragon is called Trash and is on the cover of this album, Scaled and Icy. there are lots of references to their other songs, this video follows on directly from the events of their 'Saturday' video, which shows the events that led to them being in the water, and the creepy hooded guys and the kids with the torches are from the music video trilogy from their last album (Jumpsuit->Nico->Levitate), the creature is called Ned and was introduced in their 'Chlorine' music video. when they walk through the tunnels you hear the melody of their older song Migraine playing faintly becuase the lyrics of that song reference being shipwrecked on a violent island, like this video.
The song by itself is great! This is made into movie. Good reaction! PS check out latest Heathens/Stranger Things live. They just dropped it not long aga.

Much of the video is tied into the mythology of the Dema storyline. Hope you continue the journey. Looking forward to your reactions to so many songs that I've come to love

I laughed as you saw the opening. Yes, that was one of the"bishops" being killed by his own peers. I don't know why, yet. But, I am guessing, we will get more of this story. Can't wait! You looked stunned. Appropriately. ☮️💜
This song is also hard to pick up bc the video has nothing to do with the actual song - the song seems to be about Tyler wondering if he's still a part of the cool kids club or if they're now the old guys - and he sort of realizes by the end that he'd rather be on the outside and not in the cool guy club - the rap I think is kind of him talking a little shit about how big they have become - which is very unusual for them to say
Sean! You're going about twenty one pilots in the most difficult way! Jumping in at the back end of the lore on a music video. Most of us listen to songs first then go down the rabbit hole. And we can check the lore sources at the same time. Have you even read the Clancy letters? You gotta be hella lost right now.
But if lore videos are what you want... You did Jumpsuit which is, for the most part, the start of the Dema lore. You should review that one then do the rest in order. #2 should have been Nico and the Niners, then #3 Levitate. #4 Neon Gravestones (BBC Radio One version). #5 Chlorine was initially outside the Dema world, but introduced NED, the creature in The Outside. It gets a bit unclear what next since so much is interwoven. Probably all of rest of Trench since a thread waves though multiple songs (except Smithereens and Ledgend - not lore related, you can come back to these later). Then continue with Scaled and Icy. Shy Away and Choker touch on lore, but indirectly, same for most of the album, but for purpose of the video LORE go to #6 Saturday next and then rewatch #7 The Outside, for your own benefit.

Now lastly, I think you should put a hold on lore, and instead check out their live versions. That link above was posted by Twenty One Pilots so it has proper audio and video (not fan footage). There are also great mash-ups/cover songs that are only live (Shy Away x I'm not Okay, Mullbery Street x Bennie and the Jets, and Heathens x Stranger Things - newest upload on their channel) but you can watch them all as individual reactions. Also, others have mentioned MTV Accoustic session. There are so many more... I really hope you opt for Live before Lore. We probably won't get more lore until the next album which is still in the works.

@@SeanStaxxMusic I’m glad I finally did, linkin park was my favorite and I regret never seeing them. Now that twenty one pilots has moved to that spot for me I had to. I was lucky to get the small venue last November, I will see them in September at a large area this year.. Super excited!

When it comes to the storyline you have kind of jumped a little. There is the trilogy: "Jumpsuit", "Nico and the niners" and "Levitate" - all from the trench album. Don't think you've reacted to Nico and the niners, which has a lot to do with this music video. Then there is "Saturday" before "The outside". The story and lore is all intertwined together.
The small white guy(s) is Ned. We se him for the first time in "Chlorine". After that he's peeking in here and there, in "The hype" and "Choker" among others. Ned represents Tylers creativity. And the bishops (Nico and the niners) in Dema (which you can see in the music video "Nico and the niners") represents his insecurities.
Long story short: Dema is representing Tylers darker thoughts. Tyler created this city in his head to help him control his mental issues. Sadly it is not that easy to control depression and anxiety so he is caught several times. Now in Dema the bishops control the citizens with fake light and they practice a religion that hypes suicide. The banditos (which you saw in "Levitate") are the rebels that have escaped Dema and are trying to rescue more people. They have rescued Tyler several times.

It's probably better to listen to the song rather than watching the video because it does change the feeling of the song. This was actually one of my favorites from Scaled And Icy, but this album is quite Pop-y (for a lore-related reason) and might take a few listens before you can vibe with it. "Shy Away" is probably their best MV song from the album, but I recommend you check out a few more from Trench! "Nico And The Niners" has a MV, but Morph is probably my favorite second to Jumpsuit.

There's a certain way to watch these so that it makes sense. It's basically a whole story and this is just part of it. We had a great time on the twenty one pilots discord breaking the video down and finding the connections when this video dropped

You said "bigger than one music video..." The lore/concept spans three albums. As for the lack of a drop, this is part of a story. Also, this album is intentionally different. There's more to the concept videos than just the music - they serve a different purpose.
The album is different for sure. Took a few listens to truly appreciate it. Give it another chance.

Saturday is the video before this which shows how he got into the water to get to this island - it all connects to Trench and an overall bigger storyline - the little character is Ned and he's introduced in Chlorine - not sure if you've done that song yet
This is their most recent video so right now their story is sort of on hold - I assume it will pick up next album
