I’ve always loved the Passion of Anna. It was the first Bergman that I saw, which I’m sure has a lot to do with it. It really resonated with me when I was in my early twenties and was consumed by isolation, self hatred, and despair. Bergmans focus on the inability to communicate and be understood still rings true for me in middle age.
I've reached a point where I can't listen to anyone talk about anything. Just watch the movie. Just play the baseball game. Just sing the song. Just evacuate the bowels.
