Finally, I was able to decide which one to get. Nice review Thank you. Salute!
After looking at comparisons, for me the 256GB iPad Air 5 was hands-down the better option over the iPad Pro 11”.
Cool! Can you explain why?
I did exactly the same thing, I never really saw the price being that close as I was comparing the storage like for like and would've rather had the 264gb storage over the 128gb, but not watching this I'm wondering if I should've just gone with the 128gb pro 🙃
Keep in mind that software and desktop apps usually require more space than their mobile versions.
@Carl F If I bought it again, I'd go pro instead. The smaller GB will be fine for most use cases and as you said you have the transfer speeds although I don't this would matter too much if you aren't transferring loads of data, the scene and the speakers are just so much better on the pro too....we live and learn
setting the storage difference aside that 120 hz screen is a big advantage over the air imo, so please take that into consideration too
Honestly have watched a bunch of comparison videos but this was deff the best & more helpful in deciding.
Thank you , I appreciate that!
Salute! Great video but I’m sticking with my 2020 12.9” Pro. This iPad never breaks a sweat even with the most intense workload I throw at it! I just can’t justify the price for the mini LED versions yet!
The 2020 is still a beast. Salute!
Salute Patrick! Great job as always sir! All the points you mentioned are what I’m debating currently. I’m looking to upgrade from my current iPad 4th generation and can't decide between the 5th gen iPad Air or the 11" iPad Pro. Once I make the choice I’ll send a follow up comment to let you know. Your review has certainly helped. Keep up the great work as always!
Thanks, Scott, that's much appreciated!
Scott - which way did you go?
Salute! Thank you for all the great reviews!
Excellent review Patrick and a salute to you :) Looking at your DBranded Ipad Pro 12.9 I am leaning towards buying one. I bought the 11 Pro and returned it as I felt it was similar in size to my older 9.7 inch ipad pro. Always felt an inkling to the bigger 12.9 Pro. Have been using the Mini 6 for a while but its not comfy to use Lumafusion on it. Your review is the first step to a new ipad. Keep up the good work and cheers.
Thanks man! Yeah the mini is super fun but not enough screen for real work.
@@PatrickRambles absolutely. Was struggling to edit a video with LumaFusion and somehow my T5 drive also not playing nice with the Mini. I will either go with an iPad Pro 12.9 or a 16 MacBook M1 pro OR the new MacBook Air and a 11 inch iPad Pro to use with sidecar. Love that feature.
I just got the iPad Air 5 (with Apple Pencil) a few days ago to go with my M1 MacBook Air I got in November as I’m about to start college. I need the MBA for the professional programs I need in class and the iPad Air for reading my ebooks and note taking.
Salute! Ma man. Seeing you keep on pushing the video quality and improvements past years. You've def came a loooong way!! Kudos for that 🔥
Thanks man, I genuinely appreciate that.
Hi Patrick, great video (as always). I just wanted to let you know, the iPad Pro does also have the smart volume controls as the iPad Air and iPad mini. You just need to activate it in Settings > Sounds > Fixed Position Volume Controls and turn the toggle off.
Nice! Thanks for sharing
That “smart” volume controls is not that smart and i thought that when i try it for the first time i broke it. Thank god i could turn it off bcs that was dumb. Idk who would use it.
Salute!
Excellent video!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and expertise.
👍
Salute! Always a great video and insight from you. Thank you! Very excellent points on comparisons. You can’t get much clearer than that.
Thank you, I appreciate that! Salute!
Thank you for your unbiased review. Excellent work.
Thanks!
Salute! Great video and answers a lot of my questions in a clear, deliberate way. Thank you! 🙏
Thanks!
Salute from Bangkok, Thailand! I really enjoyed and appreciate your gadget tech reviews.
Salut! Thanks :)
Thanks for the great review. Salute!
Great video. You provided precisely the information and advice I was seeking. Many thanks!
Great to hear!
Salute!!! Another great recap of tech choices, as always!!! Great work!
Salute! Thanks Chris :)
“salute” thank you for just laying out the information so I can decide what works best for me. I own a 2nd gen 12 inch iPad Pro. It works great, but my needs have become more demanding, so an upgrade is on the horizon.
Can't wait to see what they'll bring to the table. I'm hoping for a meaningful upgrade this time, maybe an improved magic keyboard too.
“Salute”. Thank you for the information. I’m still using my iPad Air from 2019 and trying to decide if I should upgrade now. There are so many choices.
True. And there's always something new just around the corner.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks so much!
Thank you!
Excellent commentary & advice 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Thank you for the comparison. Hard to decide. I want to replace my laptop and have nice Zoom meeting. Thanks for pointing out the depth capabilities of the iPad pro ! Greetings from Taiwan
Thanks, Mark!
Salute! Thanks for this comparison, it was very helpful! For my purposes, I'm leaning toward the 64GB Ipad Air. I don't plan on getting an Apple Pencil anytime soon, and I really don't want to go over $600 for a tablet. I want it for casual use, like video watching, digital books, and game streaming. The camera doesn't matter much to me either. I also prefer touch ID to face ID.
You've made the right choice.
Salute! Thanks for the video - I’ve been contemplating on which one to get so this is very helpful!
Salute! Thanks man, glad it was useful
Salute! I blushed a bit at your last comment about the 12.9" buyers, because I am guilty of upgrading religiously to the newer models. Thanks for another well produced and informative video!
Salute!
Thanks Patric. This was a a very good video mate. cheers.
Thanks, Tobias!
I own a 64GB M1 iPad Air and use it as my main personal computer, and as a supplementary tool at work (planner, tasks, notes, etc). As a hobbyist musician, I also use this iPad for music video production. I noticed that it is the GAMES that actually requires a lot of permanent space for the iPad. In my case, for video editing projects (1080p videos only, not 4K res.), once Im finished editing, i just copy them on an external SSD through the iPad's USB C port then delete the materials from the iPad freeing up space. Since I don't edit pro res videos (and I dont work on multiple video projects simultaneously either) nor play any games on the iPad, the 64GB has more than enough room for me, and perhaps to most people who don't edit pro res videos or play games on their iPad.
That's exactly my use case , though I do more of design and illustration and have been torn between the air and the pro.. how the 64 gigs holding for you?
I know the obvious winner is the pro but the one thing that has me on the fence is the facial recognition to unlock it. I've heard some mixed things about it and im not sure i would like it. I plan on going in store to play around with both models and seeing which i like better.
Good idea to test it for yourself!
I regret paying what I did for the 12.9” M1 Pro. It’s so big that I never really take it out of the house, so I got a mini 6 with cellular. But now I’m going back to school and think I want the Air with the Smart Keyboard, but I also don’t want to spend anymore money.
Fantastic comparison!
I really appreciate your content it’s thoroughness and thoughtfulness. One additional population you might consider are educators. Consider us a relatively new and important cohort. Most of us are teaching remotely or in hybrid format and increasingly rely on iPad and Microsoft tech to do our work. Some of us are engaged in scholarship, too, which muddies the waters in terms of our tech needs. The size of the iPad does matter for many of us. Whether we are leading a discussion, solving problems, or using apps like Nearpod to keep track of our students synchronous work, the difference in my opinion between the 11” and 12.9” is huge. I would strongly encourage educators to purchase an 12.9” device whichever they ultimately choose and I agree 64 is not enough! Thanks for listening
Thanks for sharing, Patricia!
iPad air is working good when we use procreate so I don't think pro is required
Great video as always Patrick. I just love my iPad Pro 12.9 because of the big screen and the display clarity. I use it as a laptop replacement when on travel. Thanks for the video. Heading to the gym with the iPad mini now:).💪💪
That's what's up! 🔥
Quality reviews as always!
Thanks, Bryce!
Thank you so much for your video, it helps me decide which ipad I should buy. This three months I was so confused whether I should buy ipad pro or air, and your video make it clear. Salute 😊
Glad it helped!!
Tbh i was at first eyeing for iPad Air 5 256gb with that blue option. But I went to 4 different stores to see if they have it but didn’t. After like 2 days of trying i just decided tp go with iPad Pro 11’ and 256gb for school and fun as well. Plus i will have this combo for next 5,7 years before upgrading so I’m happy with my decision.
Genuine question, why did you spend so much on hardware space when iCloud offers 200gb with a 2.99$ subscription ?
@@rayimd I have the 16gb pro from like 4-5 years ago and I ran out of space many years ago making it impossible to use haha. There are quite a few apps that only use hardware storage making the cloud storage useless
@@drewhite1221 that’s 16gb tho, big difference
Bro how is note taking like with the high refresh rate
Ooh I like the way you did that speaker comparison bruuuuu
Lekkah!
Salute! I'm very happy with my Mini, but pretty soon the urge to go big is sure to overwhelm my desire to hold onto my money. As tempting as that Air is, I'll almost certainly go Pro. I'm always a tech maximalist: you're already spending so much money to get in on the ground floor, it's worth whatever extra money I can afford to get something that's going to really satisfy me.
Storage space is the threshold issue for me: even 256 gb just isn't enough when you start editing home videos on LumaFusion. Sure, you can use external drives, but you have to remember to carry them with you. ProMotion would be nice, but I've never used it before, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. The better sound and cameras would be kinda nice, I guess, but it's the storage that pretty much guarantees I'm going to get the Pro.
Now the question is 11" or 12.9", and that's a whole other kettle of fish...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Robert. I'm using the 12.9 inch for similar reasons. I'm a tech maximalist (in part because of this channel) and the bigger Pro does have some things the 11 inch doesn't, like that scrumptious mini LED display. You can go all the way up to 2TB of storage. Having said that, I probably wouldn't buy a pro right now, with new iPads on the horizon.
Hello Mr. Rambles. Hope you get a chance to see this. If I hook up the iPad Air 5th gen with the M1 chip to a 120 hz monitor then will I be able to experience 120 hz while gaming on it?
I just got an iPad 9 to replace my iPad air 2. After watching reviews about the iPad 9 the air 5 was brought up and I started wanting it. Now it's on its way to my house and I guess someone in my family is getting a free barely used iPad 9. 🤷♂️
In depth, real world comparisons, great pace. Well done, thanks for the 4-1-1.
Thanks, Walter, I appreciate that!
I have an iPad mini and an iPhone but never had a Mac. I decided once and for all, after a long history of failures with PCs, I needed to try a Mac. It arrived yesterday. I got the M2 Air: 8-core (I saw a video showing 10-cores getting hotter than 8) + 16gb ram + 1tb disk space for photography. I used it for at least 4 hours yesterday and not only did it not get hot, it stayed cold! I was amazed! My laptops have always gotten hot, as in too hot to touch my lap. I was apprehensive because the Air doesn’t have a fan, but it doesn’t seem to matter. I wasn’t doing heavy work on it, mostly setting it up and then using PowerPoint while listening to music and later watched a show on Hulu. The music quality is good, not stunning. The graphic quality is great! I couldn’t find any free hide notch apps so I just made my background black. Problem solved. lol
Hi Linda, glad to hear you're liking your purchase! Macs are great to use, they have very few issues.
Salute. Thanks. You made my decision a lot easier.
Thanks !!
Salute. I prefer more storage. I use my pro for everything, video edits, work on the go with cellular, gaming, but mostly video editing on the go. Got the T7 1Tb to video edit with LumaFusion cuz I need more storage, great combination
Salute! Great combo indeed 👌
Salute! I am glad I found your channel. Someone had suggested to me the Samsung Tab S8 but had about decided on a iPad Air 5 as I already have a MacBook and of course iPhone. It seemed the Air 5 would be the best bang for my buck. Well, and size for travel as I am wanting it before a trip I am taking in September. If it weren't for that I might wait to see what Apple rolls out in September. After watching this, I am leaning towards the iPad Pro 11; mainly because it is a little smaller and less weight. I am hoping the 256 gb will be enough! Thanks so much
Hey Cher, thanks for the kind words. Let me know how you like it !
Hello Patrick, "Salute" lol. Thank you so much for the video, definitely helped in different perspectives, and to assist me in my next purchase as I am switching from Samsung to IPAD there are many videos out there and many opinions, but you broke it down shot gun style and easy, thank you again.
Thanks Ivan, I appreciate that!
Hey Patrick another great video. For me, like others the Pro is my go to IPad for work and productivity however I love the IPad Mini as an alternative. I use the latter to attend meetings, sit in a coffee shop or chill in bed watching TikToks and UA-cam. Logitech Keyboard paired to both and fold away IPad stands for when I am sat in the office or coffee shop. The IPad Air will attract the casual users. I am hoping that IOS16 will add some new Pro features to make the Pro IPad start to become that laptop replacement Apple wants it to be.
Paul, full disclosure, the mini is my favorite iPad. I use it 90% of the time 😅
@@PatrickRamblesreally!? That’s so interesting you say that. I’m deciding right now to get the mini or the m1 air for casual use. Nothing crazy. But I got one look at the mini and I didn’t know if I want to commit to how small it was. But then again the iPad Air’s bigger screen might be inconvenient in some “casual” moments. Im in such a conundrum.
That’s the thing , I have a large iPad Pro so I didn’t feel that kind of pressure when picking one up. But I use the mini way more than I do the pro.
Salute! Thank you so much for this video 🙂
Salute! Thanks for watching :)
Salute.... to your great comprehensive video... thanks 😊
.... still deciding over microsoft, surface pro/surface laptop and iPad pro 🤔
Salute 🫡
Honestly, i have been observing both the Air and the Pro versions and personally I had always wanted an Air so I bought the Air 5 and it basically great for all the purposes I need it for! I love my ipad Air 5 but if the roles were inversed, I'd get the Pro but they're pretty similar ❤ We can use an External SSD with the ipad Air and the Pro which I love!
You are right thanks for replying me
How was it? Is it good in taking notes? I want to use one for my whole year course of review for my exam. Can you recommend it? I want to be a paperless student for this review
@@BruceWayne_87 Yes, it’s great value for the money too
Anyone know if the air and the 11 inch pro have the same screen resolution and brightness? That’s a deciding factor for me
I was looking to update my 10.5 iPad Pro with either the Air 5 or the iPad Pro M1. I opted for the Pro just because I was coming from a Pro. If I hadn’t used an iPad Pro before, the Air would have been perfect.
i did the same and i regret nothing, i do feel my 12.9 takes longer to charge but i checked online and it seems its normal to take 3h ._. uau
Salute! Thank you for the very informative video.
Salute and thanks for watching !

Salute! Man, I've been struggling with the decision of which iPad to buy! Money is short, but I like having good things that I know will last. And I'd also like to use the iPad with my monitor sometimes. Do you know if the iPad mini supports 60hz hdmi ?
Salute ! Yes it should with a dongle. But unlike the M1 tablets, it will still have the black bars on an external monitor.
Hi This was an excellent comparison video. It puts the others well in the shade. Thank you I now know which one I will buy. Can you help me with a query which I am having difficulty getting an answer. I am using the PlayerXtreme app for my movie collection. I want to transfer those movies from my current iPad Pro to a new iPad , is this possible. Thanks again I enjoyed your presentation.
Salute! Thanks for the video and information!!
Thanks for watching!
Watching on my iPad Pro, 11 inch I got in 2021. Very happy with it.
Nice!
Salute of course. Really good comparison. 😊
Thanks, Jan!
Good job !, clear and fast 😊
Thanks!
Anyone know if the air and the 11 inch pro have the same screen resolution and brightness? That’s a deciding factor for me
Thank you so much Patrick! Upt to your video, I was definitely planning to buy the Air, but now, things habe changed. The Pro might be the better choice for me, as the difference in the price is not that big. Cheers Erwin
Thanks Erwin! Glad it was useful.
The differences is minimal for me, the air 5 for Lightroom editing on the go was a no brainier.
Can you please suggest me which one should I buy as a medical student ipad air 5 256 gb or iPad pro 128gb i am so confused..
Thanks for this very detailed review, Patrick. I'm just curious if the 11' pro 128gb is still the better option between the Air 5 256gb. I am a student who will use it for studying, entertainment consumption and basic designing. I'm eyeing the Air 256gb thinking its storage will be a better option for long term use. I own a 256gb mobile phone and i've used half of its storage in just 9 months. Do you think the 128 pro will do? Hoping you or anyone will notice this. Thanks.
I'd suggest waiting a couple more weeks as the m1 iPad pro's price is likely to drop after the new iPad pro release this October. (who knows if we can get 256gb pro for the current 128gb price)
Much better
Air
Yes, 128GB will do. iPads tend to have fewer things on them than a phone. The iPad Pro’s features are amazing.
Salute! Thank you for the information!
Salute!
i want to upgrade my 2017 ipad pro 10,5" but the ipad pro 11" costs double than ipad air 5 in my country, does it worth it or should i stick with the air 5? I use it mostly for handwriting, a lot of procreate and recording music in garage band. When I say double is literally double
Salute! Tex for het another great video,Keep it up!😊
Salute! Thanks Mathias!
Very informative
*I just traded in My 4th Gen Air & My Fathers 9th Gen for the M1 Pro 11 and I have to say right off the bat the screen looks SOOO much better, but Thee only thing I have an issue with is how you unlock the iPad Pro to use things. I miss the touch and wish they included them both*
Salute from the Netherlands.. the last time I bought an iPad was in 2014 a mini. I’m heavily leaning towards the 12.9inch pro with 1tb reasoning is I buy an iPad every 7yr basically until it’s in usable so I like future proofing a device that 16gig of mem sounds pretty good for when we can open several apps and connect the iPad to a larger Screen and have good multitasking and I don’t like to store my photo’s in the cloud
That would be a substantial upgrade indeed. Groetjes!
I salute you, thank you for this information.
Salute!
Thanks, another great video!! Salute!! How are the twins??
Salute! Thanks Marilyn, the twins are great, thanks for asking ❤️
Salute! So I was looking to buy my first Ipad and through the points brought out in your video I would go for the air. But I went to the store and I can't compare the screen size and the black bezels to the Pro! 😱
I thought I would love the 11" display... Well, I think I'm going for the 12,9"... But should I wait for the new one? 😅
Yeah the display on the 12.9 inch is next level. I'd wait, new iPads should be announced this month's.
With a $32 difference in price with targets sale the other day. I went with the pro!
If you are a professional who doesn’t work in graphics, design, film etc and therefore don’t really need cutting edge programs, even the entry level ipad 9,7 is a great tool, and screen quality good enough for social viewing etc. So an air 5 is a logical step up for that kind of user, which is me. And 256gb beats 128 on a pro 11 for me. I am just not bothered about all the bells and whistles of a pro ipad, when the air represents a good step up from a 9,7. And I had face ID on an iphone, but much prefer touch, so I don’t get the fuss of needing to have face id either.
I agree, it’s a no brainer with the 11 inch pro over the Air 5 for the features and cost difference. The 256 GB pro is currently 849 on Amazon or ED Apple for 899 with 100 dollar gift card giveback. Being 3 months from this original upload, I suspect the question now is do you wait for the 11 inch M2 which will probably also add mini led come October/November or the 14 inch next spring? I assume the 14 inch MPro or MMax will eventually replace the 12.9 all together. Side note, personally, I only use the physical volume button to shutdown anymore. It’s quick to train yourself to use control center with the upper right corner swipe. Or for me, when in keyboard mode, I use the hot key for CC. Then the volume slider with mouse or finger.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video ! And your set up is awesome ! Would like to see a video about that
It just so happens I'm filming a studio tour this week :)
@@PatrickRambles that’s great ! Can’t wait to see it
Also, salute salute over here. First video I’ve ever seen of yours but very well done man and nice set up you have!

Thanks Nancy !
So, I came across an insane deal on an iPad Air 5 with 256Gb, for $549.00 (Military on base store) So, that was $50 less than the base model Air 5. I already have an 11pro A12Z processor. Which I still love...just couldn't pass up the Air 5 price and M1 chip. Now have to decide which one I want to sell. 🙂
Ha! After september/October the plot will thicken even more 😅
@@PatrickRambles You are correct sir!
Very good content Patrick as always nice one salute 👏🇮🇪😎
Thanks Mary, I appreciate your support always ❤️
The 12. 9 inch and one iPad Pro does have the smart volume buttons. You have to enable it in settings.
So I've learned. Thanks Thomas!
I have been using the first gen iPad Pro 10.5 256 GB since Jan 2018. Along with its smart Bluetooth keyboard and Apple Pencil 1st generation. After some deliberation and research, three days ago, I went ahead and switched over to the iPad Air 5th Generation 256 GB with the new gen Smart Keyboard and the second gen Apple Pencil. I am convinced that this is absolutely the right upgrade for my kind of use.
Great!
does your ipad has the creaking issue when u press the back panel?
My Camon 18 Premier is 120Hz and my iPad air 5 is 60Hz but I don't notice the difference because I compared them and in some animations it was smother than my Tecno Camon 18 Premier but in scrolling the Camon is a bit smother.
Very helpful. Saluted!

Sir, which among these iPads are going to give software support for longer period . Pro model released in 2021 and air 5th gen came out in 2022. Since pro model came one year earlier than air is it going to get one year less ipad os support ?
I’d say the same. Both are M1 models.
