Thanks Dave.. This one was interesting to me.. I still have my Z5500 set. They sound fantastic and support optical and coax digital input with Dolby and DTS decoding. Hell of a set up for computer speakers, as they were marketed. Still have a big fan base, despite being discontinued years ago.

I used the typed wiring chart you had shown for the pinout but was also able to "continuity chect" all 15 wires on the connectors on my unit before installing the new connector. They were correct except mine had an Orange wire connected to pin #6 in addition to the others you showed. The failure of my control cable was a break in the Dark Green wire. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for this, I have the same problem with mine. I bought the system used knowing the wiring was compromised at the connector and I've removed the outer shell from the connector. The entire section inside appears to have been filled with semi-clear soft epoxy at the factory that obscures the connections. I plan to use the numbering/color coding shown on your video to see if it'll work for mine. Cheers

Still rocking the Z5500 system for my home theater. Still sounds good, although mine isn't as beat up as this guy's is. About $100 for a good used one on flea bay.

Hello , i need to do the opposite, 1 pin has broken on the female port 15pin d-sub connector. I am out of options, would be hard to desolder there the female port. I was thinking to open the mainboard and connect each cable with the male connector cable. Do you know if there are cables inside the woofer to the female port or it's soldered direct to the board? Do you have any other ideas/tips ?? Thank you

They have hit your channel again with the record test so I return the comment here .
You can use that record player and any other with a tone arm and a mixer .
your cartrage is a refined sound cut , they sound mint with alboms , I have 2 odd cartrages here but mine is now refusin to cut in the grove of 12 " overnight , my Club mixing is on hold .
Bask MIX & play can be done with Hi Fi turntables , Slip Mats on each Deck help with the speed beat timing , this is the Magic of mixing .
I would do this with Technics 1200 anyway , its the build quality with these solid decks I am after un like this crap I still have now witch is a pain in the ass when knocked and the belts I take off the motor to relax them .

Well I did get a pinout, actually several ones, and all the ones I was able to match were correct. The 2 I was unsure was L ch and Sub ch. The pinout had the colors listed so I think everything is good now.

I got sick to death soldering new vga plugs on, it was almost as if everyone phoned each other and jumped on me in one lump ha ha :-D.
The hardest part was soldering the R.G.B coaxial cables back on to the connector, they had to be a certain equal length so no stress was put on them.
The Hsynk/Vsynk and i.d mode wires or serial clk data were so easy to solder.
Plus a few more earths thrown in for synk returns.

That connector though is a lot older than VGA, was used extensively in industry for decades as a small multi pin connector which is very robust. Then got appropriated into PC use and everybody forgot that there are other styles of D connector available. My favourite are the types with integrated coaxial connections in the shell, and I guess for consumer use they were thought to be just a tad too expensive, seeing as ITT still had patents valid on them as well. As well you could put high voltage inserts in place of the coax, and have 5kV into that small connector, as well with some low voltage control pins.

I always liked the bigger D connectors like the 25 way, it's a shame that when the scart video plug standard was created they didn't use a 25 way D connector with rod finger screws.
No connector problems, no falling out of the tv socket :-)

    A 100$ repair for a 10$ POS.
Some things just are not worth fixing.
I see Logitech at junk stores quite often.
Altec Lansing PC speakers are simuler, proprietary connectors, no standards, and different from their other models, very stupid. They often use DIN plugs or D9 plugs with strange wiring? Their subwoofer speakers are often less than six inches, not worth bothering with.
I have some Logitech headphones with mic, the usb connector is gooched, I'd like to rewire them for my TenTec rig. But the wire is hair fine, too thin, so um thinkin replace the wire too.
