Great review, very detailed and thorough. It also gives completely new users an idea of how to use the midi before they even have their hands on it. I really like how he broke down and demonstrated all the features, something that would've taken weeks of self-exploration for a new user. Q: Do you know of any differences between the various models? (CTRL 2 vs 6 vs 7)?
OK, Thanks for the info. I'm still going to get this mixer. Thanks for showing all of the features in your section by section style. B & H Photo has it for $189.00. I will use it for my second smaller set-up. I already own a Denon DNMC6000.
Awesome review very comprehensive, thanks for taking the time to review it in full..maybe you could set up another short video showing how you would use it for a short mix? I'm looking to buy my first piece of kit and this may make the cut as it provides a lot of bang for the buck. Q:As far as the different effects (overloop/flanger/etc), I couldn't tell if there's a visual indicator to help switch through them fast? It'd be great if you included effects in a sample mix vid!
Hey Mike diligent even DJ's who were mixing back in the day can still use Virtual DJ I have been mixing since you were not even thought of or in diapers my friend so don't even go there basically digital DJing it's kind of a mixed blessing 1 you don't have to lug around a bunch of milk crates with records so regardless of which way you want to DJ is great you come to my world and DJ back in the 70's okay it was hard ask any old school DJ like myself
Hi, nice video, thanks, but I have a question (I cannot understand perfectly all what you say so maybe you have said the answer in your video and I haven't heard it): Is the pre-cue possible with earphones only with a Macbook and this Controller ? Or you need something else (except the earphones =D) Thanks in advance!
do you mean better quality or better because of features/layout/etc.... I cancelled on the DJ2Go, decided it wouldn't do, even short term. I need to order my controller soon, and am leaning to the CNTRL-7 for it's inputs and outputs, is there any specific reason not to get this for a 1st controller? I'm thinking it will let me learn a lot, and still have CD and Vinyl access without having to use analog mixer too. I'd need better mixer with more outputs otherwise.
Hey can you please answer, I haven't noticed a headphone cue buttons on each side, the buttons that allow me to listen to one deck on my headphones only, did I miss it, is there one ? Btw loved your review, you are awesome !
Sorry so many questions, but I really appreciate your help. Is there anything where the CNTRL-7 is lacking severely in function? I like the access to samples, and think I would like to use cues and looping, and the samples most, and effects the least. Leaning away from WEGO as it only has 4 sample spots. Can't decide between Mixtrack Pro 2 and CNTRL 7, but the MTP2 will still need a mixer in the loop, but that might be good backup. I like Virtual DJ, but haven't seen the others in person.
Hey, I'm running my laptop into an input on my mixer as of now, will be using this way for a while, or indefinitely. I am looking into controllers, I have the DJ2Go on the way, so I'll have something better than the mouse/touch pad on my laptop, for now. This will let me get in some practice and gather funds/info until I decide. I'm looking at the Pioneer DDJ-wego, Numark Mixtrack Pro 2, this CNTRL-7, and others in the $300 and under range. I like the versatility of this one, any input?
I'm looking to buy a controller but I don't know what to go for. I know the basics of mixing due to my mate having the Numark Mixtrack Pro. Can you recommend any other controllers for me? How about the Gemini CNTRL-7?
question...will gemini control 7 work with mpc samplers as for extra beats or mixing..or is it a whole different thing? or maybe my question don't make sense
Bro i got problem wth mine. When i se the mixer it always cuts out after couple of seconds like ill play say for 3mins then sudenly it just stops. Then i need to redo all the settings again. I got traktor 2 software and there it does the same thng? It is defs the controller do you know wht to do?
dude the gemini controller ,i have one almost two years.the only real difference is the jog wheels are smaller.all the contrls are right there.the thing is if you can't mix you can't mix.i started using wax dude .i know what it is.if you're a real dj.you should be able to use anything and sound good.so stop hating .
"I see why the majority think is mixing with your laptop is cheating, because its so much easier to fake there and harder to fail. It’s clearer to spot an error when a DJ beatmatches the wrong way, but that’s not the only way you can ruin your performance, plus, let’s face it, the aesthetics of CDJs and mixers is incomparable.
laptop or no laptop has nothing to do with djing. its all about track selection and transitions. the midi syncs when you press the button. you select the songs not the laptop. YOU control EVERYTHING. the laptop doesnt do shit. almost the only thing the laptop is for is to hold and load your songs. if you have a pioneer cdj the cd becomes the laptop.
the thing is. if i have to purchase a stand alone set it will cost me 3000 euro's. i would die to have a thing like that. and not use a laptop but i cant afford that so use a midi costing 2-300 euro's and settle with that. and for that i need a laptop. the only thing i'd be using my laptop for is searching songs and loading them to decks. how is that fake,
Someones jealous lol there's no such thing as "real" and "fake" dj's ... quit bitching about people using computers to do live gigs... If you're as good as you think you are then you should get the gig not the "fake" dj right? LOL let people do their thing and you do yours... or are you gonna say you ride a horse to work instead of a car cause that's REAL RIDING? haha I bet not... quit the damn hating and be happy that dj's are being noticed now.
Great review, very detailed and thorough. It also gives completely new users an idea of how to use the midi before they even have their hands on it. I really like how he broke down and demonstrated all the features, something that would've taken weeks of self-exploration for a new user.

It can be midi mapped out to other software programs except Serato.Serato will only work with Serato control box, proprietary hardware.
thanks for solving my question

Hi, do you prefer this controller or the mixtrack pro? i m trying to decide which one to buy. Thanks :)

Btw loved your review, you are awesome !
Thanks for the kind words. This does not have cue buttons, it has a knob in the front that fades between the two decks in the headphones...
Does This controller work with other software than virtual dj? ... like serato,traktor...would u recommend me buying this controller?
