H.G. Wells The War Of The Worlds is a story by British author Herbert George Wells in which alien visitors from Mars arrive in space capsules first in Horsell Common near Woking in Surrey. This is at first thought to be a meteorite by the English men that discover this cylinder with the astronomer Ogilvy exclaiming that the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one. However, as the Narrator explains, Martian creatures soon make themselves present before using a Heat Ray to disintegrate some of the English people. They soon begin using massive Tripod Fighting Machines and using weapons such as the heat-ray as well as the black smoke begin to lay waste to the British army, leaving people such as the Artilleryman and the protagonist separated from everyone including his wife, and with the defeat of the ironclad torpedo ram HMS Thunder Child the Royal Navy as well succeeding in defeating the biggest Empire in human history, The British Empire at the height of it's power in the Victorian age in which H G Wells wrote the novel. The Martians very quickly establish a dominion over man as they spread their Red Weed across the Earth reaching the capital city of Britain London the Fighting-Machines cause great devastation. Other methods of transport the martian invaders use include the Handling-Machines as well as the Flying-Machines.
On paper there have been many illustrated editions of the story, the first of which were done by Warwick Goble in the original serial version. Relatively soon after, Alvim Correa drew his illustrations. Henrique Alvim Corrêa was a Brazilian artist who traveled to London in 1902 to present H. G. Wells with drawings that he'd done for the story of The War Of The Worlds and there have since been many been many illustration versions by artists such has Edward Gorey and Lou Cameron. There have also been audio adaptations of HG Wells War Of The Worlds, including the infamous 1938 Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast and the iconic 1978 album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds. There were likewise many attempts to bring the story to the big screen as well, including by icons such as Alfred Hitchcock and Ray Harryhausen, but it wasn't until The War Of The Worlds 1953 film by George Pal that this was finally accomplished. Later on, there's been Steven Spielberg's 2005 War Of The Worlds starring Tom Cruise and The Great Martian War 1913-1917 documentary style drama set in World War 1. Recently, the BBC made a TV miniseries the BBC British TV series war of the worlds and FOX, Epic and StudioCanal did a TV series starting in 2019 called War Of The Worlds that claims to be adapted from the source material. There has also been several war of the worlds movies recently as well, including 2021 War Of The Worlds, also known as Alien Conquest, which had a sequel called War Of The Worlds Annihilation and this year in 2023 War Of The Worlds The Attack. There have also been many indie games and art with a survival horror war of the worlds 2005 game which will be a multiplayer survival game based on the Tom Cruise War Of The Worlds movie as well as a faithful adaptation of HGWells War Of The World game set in the Victorian era by GelatoDev and TeamGreen with Team Green also making their survival game a multiplayer war of the worlds game as well and there's another announced in 2023 called The War of the Worlds: Siberia. There's also The War Of The Worlds 1913 game which is a worthwhile, fun and nicely stylised adaption of H G Wells The War Of The Worlds. Also, credit goes to PaletteFM for assisting in the colourisation of some of the drawings.

That was a fun presentation. I have the entire radio play on CD that came with a copy of H. G's book and a shorter one that came with the George Pal production, a remastered DVD of the 1953 classic.
Funnily enough, my Grandfather was alive when this broadcast was played. He told me that he remembered - and his father relayed to him - that they continually stated over the radio that the broadcast was fictional.
Unfortunately, he passed away a little over a year ago, so I can’t ask him further on any details, but it was always something that caught my attention and something I distinctly recall him telling me whenever this broadcast was brought up.
I’ll never forget that “Orson Wells was right!” line from Destroy All Humans.

A follow-up: the actor playing "The Secretary of the Interior" would go on to play the radio character "Senator Cogburn",and the artilleryman was played by Norman Lloyd, who would go onto acting and Working for Alfred Hitchcock, and the eccentric Doctor Auschlander in St. Elsewhere, and living until 2021.
Wow
The tripod at the door is just the cherry on top of this latest Spooky Month treat you have given us.
Well done again.
Haha, I'm glad you liked it, thank you! :)
the series resistance made reference to this, the second game even had a similar broadcast that ended with the man walking out, and is very hinted to either have killed himself or gave himself up to the Chimera, the invaders of the series.
You're definitely spoiling us at the moment 🎉 Awesome WOTW coverage 👍👍👍
To be honest, the radio broadcast was always one of my favorites. And it leaves to the imagination what the tripods in THAT looked like. Truly a great way to introduce newcomers to The War of The Worlds (If they don't want to read or listen to a 2 hour album.) This is just brilliant! Another great production by my favorite TWOTW Content creator
its easily the most digestible war of the worlds content for me: it parallels the original perfectly, while perhaps making them less HG wells in the best way possible. Wells style is great and I absolutely love it, but its alot easier to take in 40 minutes of "well, this was made in its time, about its time, if aliens who are capable of interplanetary travel before humans could even attempt to get into space... landed on earth with the intent of wiping us out"
Then i either suggest the original book (for people who like to read) or for my music-lover friends, i recommend the musical. the musical not being a modernization of anything but the aliens is why i love it... the aliens feel even more advanced.
Anything that places the aliens after the atomic age has the plothole of: humans probably would just nuke the world assuming it was actually soviets or americans, or as a scorched earth (in the most literal sense) to deny the aliens anything.
@@Robb1977 Geez dude, an essay man..? But yeah I agree! I just dont want people giving Orson the credit for making the story lol.
@DaMartianAl007 ah man, sorry. I have a habit of over-writing. I guess i should kept it at "Orson is how i usually introduce them to the general story. It involves the least commitment without sacrificing the themes"
@@Robb1977 Don't worry about it man, it's only 3 short paragraphs lol.
Back before tv, internet cable, radio was the main mode of communication. Then news reels in movie theaters were the main modes of entertainment and getting your news.
when you think about it, this broadcast really innovated several horror staples used in modern media like Analog Horror
this is great i loved this!
Thank you! :)
21:27 "I don't care Who the I.R.S sends, I'm Not paying Taxes!"
Informative video. Nice work.
Very good doc. Orson Wells brilliant!
just reallized the war of the worlds 1934 channel toke some tiny elements and parts of the radío broadcast to make their videos , such as their video about the RAF try to combat the Martians is almost the same thing as part of the broadcast where the US air force try to do same thing the RAF.
RAF does .*
Haven't watched it yet, but it would certainly make sense considering they're set so close together. :)
The birth of unfiction and analog horror, right here. The Blair Witch Project, The 15 Experience, Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, BEN Drowned, Local58, and countless other analog horror and unfiction projects that demolish the fourth wall took direct inspiration from this broadcast.
The fact that a lot of people took this radio broadcast seriously due to newspapers even tho most knew it was just fun and that it was a radio version of jumpin from a bush in a white bed sheet and saying boo makes me laugh, as I’ve either seen or watched yt vids of almost everything of war of the worlds
Also I think that tripod is vibin there to say hello, or he’s an irs worker and collecting taxes, or a tripod heat ray salesman
16:29 my head cannon is that Pearson stole a radio recording device to leave for any other survivors
I wonder what the game was that was playing in the background
War of the Worlds game by Team Green
Strated with jeff wayne War of The worlds on PS1 and PC review Please.
New oddwolrd content where?
The bbc's tripods (the thumb nail) were just trash, infact the whole production was 💩
That series being so bad (imo) was actually what got me into making War of the Worlds videos lol. I was surprised no other channels were talking about how bad that series was, so was like 'Fine, I'll do it myself'. As for this thumbnail, I simply used them as I thought they had a creepy silhouette that I felt somewhat matched the Halloween setting.
@@pupbenny Dont get me wrong I loved the book, Jeff Waynes version, even liked the new film the Attack (with realy bad acting but kept close to the book) but The BBC version and i quote the Drinker had (THE MESSAGE!) and no one does Horsell Common right, its always a meteorite not a cylinder. I did enjoy Tom Cruise version but once again was very losley basd on the book. My favorite version of the book and tripods has got to be Jeff Waynes version, no one has come close since. Oh i forgot about the Pendragon film it was excatly like the book but the pacing and editing was terrible but it did have the thunder child in it 👍
Edit= been ejoying your videos for a while now and subbed lol
