I love how people see the good side and immediately want to own an animal. Training an Apex predator to this level takes so long and so much understanding of bears, you have to basically dismiss everything you know to take care of him and ensure he doesn't eat you.

Anyone who knows bears knows they are quite clumsy and poor "predators" who only occassionally bring down another large animal, they are poor stalkers, do not conceal well and even show indecision in selecting a specific animal when charging a herd. Most of their diet is small animals like rodents or insects and grubs, and about 60% is vegetation or roots, nuts and berries. They will, though, kill calves of larger animals or select injured or old animals to prey on if the opportunity presents itself.

I remember feeding an orphaned baby grizzly bear cub a bottle at a wildlife rehab here in Spokane where I had thick leather protective arm cover and even through that I could feel how razor sharp his claws were & it was just a cub! I cannot imagine how sharp a full grown grizzly bear’s claws are. How he is not covered in claw scratches is beyond me! Even being gentle the size & strength disparity is huge!
Good point! I bet Leo DOES sleep better after a nice massage. The playing and the massage also remind Leo that he is important to Jim and Jim loves him. I bet that helps Leo have a nice sleep too.

Seems like big bear is mannered enouhg to be as gentle to this human beeing as it's own Momma bear had been to itself when it was a young & silly cub🐻👍
I’m pretty careful about who I think is a “hero”, but Jim is one! Jim loves his bears and they love him. Jim clearly wants his bears to enjoy every day of their lives, and it looks like he is succeeding!
