Hi I'm from the Pacific Islands. This documentary I find very interesting and intriguing. The problems are so similar to what multi-billion dollar corporations do to our environment. They basically take everything they want and after all minerals are exhausted, they leave our environments with only deep holes in the ground and pollution to our river systems. All they care about seem to be PROFIT for their shareholders in Europe and other western nations.Such seems to be the norm for all the big mineral development sectors. Indigenous people need to rise up and own their own mining companies. Outsiders should not be given the upper hand on all the resources just because they have the money to do it. Locals have to tap into the business and be empowered to be able to develop their own resources.
Wages/Salaries across the board in SA is disgusting low considering the rate of inflation. Food prices in South Africa is on par with that of the UK, but wages are below the UK minimum wage mark.
I worked in a company where I worked with a fellow female white colleague; we both had a BSc Honours degree; we had graduated in the same year and were the same age; but she got paid R17 000 and I got paid R9 000? There is obviously still a colour bar in SA
+nonhlanhla precious Radebe was it the same company ? was the same Bsc ? You know there is different salery for Biologists and Chemists. If it was the same company and the same job in a similar position with similar working hours than you can compare. If under these conditions your paycheck is different than there is unequality otherwise not.
Hi Andreas. We both had a BSc honours degree in geology in the same company.... after that; I resigned and went back to university and studied something different; now doing a PhD related to water engineering; the experience at that company was not pleasant and I didnt enjoy working there at all. Obviously not all companies in SA operate in this manner; however in this case that was my experience.
OK than :) I m just so tired of false and unjust statements made all the time in SA media. All the time it is said Whites earn so much more than the poor miners but they just ignore the fact that most Whites and Indians worked hard to get their degrees or to start their businesses. If I would do a basic job in a mine or work as a gardener I wouldn t get a penny more. This has nothing to do with race but with personal performance and hard work.
Ya for sure that's just logic; you cant expect to get paid for a job that you're not qualified for; but in my case we both had honours degrees. I think the media is also playing both sides; by playing both camps against each other; because they know that people in SA are sensitive about it and bad news sells
It's simple math, folks. Not enough jobs/per capita means NOT ENOUGH JOB CREATORS. You want to _truly_ 'spread the wealth' around? -- ALLOW MORE *_PRIVATE_* individuals to create MORE jobs, and thereby, create more _real_ 'WEALTH,' for society at large.
The problems with unions, employers and employees is universal. This is not only in South Africa. Could one say there is an unknown correlation between union and employer. When employee ask for a union to represent them, they work in deplorable conditions. They're never satisfy with their wages. The bottom line is employers don't like unions that speak for employees.I think unions are good for employees but employers make them look ugly.
13:48 -- "What -is- a living wage? I've asked this question so many times, and I never get a straight answer. " -- Yeah, I know, You _won't_. "What's a living wage?" "Well, a living wage, I guess, is a wage that we're not gonna determine just based on market forces, ..." That is now literally and officially by far the *_STUPIDEST_* thing I've ever heard in my life.
Giving the worker his due is what made this country, the United States, the richest nation on earth. The wealth of any nation is determined by its average citizen. You need equality in schools, health, welfare or its ludicrous of even asking these citizens to become productive members of society.
I'm very concerned when it comes to works right because us black people we still treated as slave .you work hard but you get peanuts at the end of the day.
SA is a nation in dire need of worker rights and strong unions. Unions tend to take things too far ( my opinion ) but in cases like SA you have to start somewhere. In the case of squatter camps, why not give that land to those willing to improve it . Such as building new structures to live in ( similar to housing for humanity) , training could be provided by the government and I'm sure building supply companies would contribute to this cause . Building infrastructure and job training in these fields would provide good jobs. SA needs to step away from racism, period..... Respect will be gained from the rest of the world . And let's not forget rule of law . You must have fair ( for all ) laws and enforce the law. Mr red jacket . Did it ever occur to you that shared technology has allowed the massive population growth yet it seems blacks have taken no accountability for their growth while whites self control their populations. So it seems you wish to punish the the descendants of those who brought the technology permitting your population growth. Very shameful!

Irvin Jim and Joseph Mathunjwa we are behind you, your upcoming political party will give us a platform to fight for poor families in South Africa

7:15 How come it's always about taking away more from the so-called 'bosses,' instead of, -- creating _more_ 'bosses?'

One word. "Detroit."
What do people not get about the fact that the more workers more people can afford (and be able) to hire, the more workers _more_ people will hire?
this white guy spoke well, we need skills to hold any position
18:30 -- She lost me at, "I do not eat and my children too." She doesn't exactly look like she's starving to death.
28:49 "What's the gap between the workers and the unemployed?" See, _that's_ the key question.
"The union must do what we want. When we want money, they must get it." That's exactly why you have so many people out of work.
