The thing I liked the most was that she only showed one move- with lots of detail. Some coaches show 3 and 4 variations and counters- by the time you're done- you don't know what you've learned. Keep up the good work.
This is my speciality. I have been through every video and lots of variations of the arm triangle. Over the last few years I have literally caught people in 100s of arm triangles but some of the details in this video I have never seen before. One of them being how when she moves to the other side uses her foot to move their hips away to expose their back and the second is the thing she called the steering wheel technique. Great details in this video.
If youre big and strong your choke work anyway, even when its not perfect... But if youre fragile like her you need to be very careful with the technique in order to make it work;
Love Ffion Davies! Such a beast. Seriously though, great video and details, but you guys need a boom mic or something because that audio is really distracting.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. This was our first ever instructional. We've solved these issues, we're now using a professional audio technician with a boom poll. Check out some of our latest techs on Instagram @thegrappleclub
Thanks for this tutorial. My head and arm choke always felt kinda loose. The detail about ball of the shoulder was v helpful. Could you please do a tutorial on a good defense to this choke? Like what can I do to get out of a head arm choke?
Great details for finishing the choke. I love getting the arm triangle, so I'm excited to practice the stuff in here I didn't know. Just wish she included a way to get the head-and-arm control from mount because I don't think that's easy
Just been doing Jiu Jitsu for a couple of months and have been got with the choke a fee times. Starting to smarten up to not letting my arm go up by my ear.
Ask 10 black belts and each of them will show you their variation of arm triangle and some will look radically different from all others, some will be common and others may be quite unique
I came to the comment section because of ffion mentioned about the sexist comment here. Omg seriously, all the sexist commenter have no chance fighting against her. Look at yourself before making such comment.
i have the Ryan Hall arm triangle DVD series. His details is totally different than this. I am able to finish arm triangles with one arm. Plus the Ezekiel transition that Ryan does is gold.
Please don't use a lav mic for this type of video. They move a lot so the clothes are rubbing against the mic constantly. You're better of using a boom or on-cam mic, even if the audio quality is a little worse. Everything is better than constant clothe-rustle.
JuiJitsu is great for competition or MMA. It is also great for law enforcement, when they're trying to apprehend a suspect when he is resisting. However in self defense or a street fight, the last thing you would probably want is to roll around with someone on the ground! You would want to hit the guy, knock him down, and get the hell out of there asap!! What if as you're grappling with someone, trying to put him into submission, he produces a weapon, what if his buddies show up, and hit you in the back of the head??
"Rolling around on the ground" is not all BJJ is. She's teaching techniques in a sport context. If you want to see jiu-jitsu taught in a self defense, street fighting or military context there are plenty of people doing it.
we really need female trainers at our club. i remember our club being full of girls until this one 20 year old dude who can't stop his clumsy attempts at flirting with every chick that enters the gym. while also trying to garner as much social capital with every serious dude in the club. unfortunately he never really got to understand how that does not work in his favour....
It was slow here because it's a demo. In an actual roll, she would only let go for a second while she presses the shoulder to the correct position then regains her grip to finish.
Always preferred the hand-on-bicep sort of finish as you have better control of the head and feels tighter for me, and as far as I can tell you don't gain anything by doing it Ffion's way - unless I'm missing something?
The hand on bicep grip is good to get the finish if you can apply a lot of pressure through your 'squeeze'. However, using this grip does reduce your mobility so if you can't get the tap with your first squeeze then you may gas your arms and lose the position when you try and readjust. The gable grip, while not giving you as much raw squeeze power does allow you to better use your shoulders and bodyweight to force your opponent's shoulder into their own neck (as Ffion likes to do in this video). If you need to readjust you can use your left arm to push on the shoulder and make the choke tighter and then quickly go back to the gable grip instead of finding your bicep again. If your opponent turns away it is also easier to switch to a seatbelt grip and boat ramp to the back. None of the two ways are wrong its just a matter of personal preference. As she says at the start of the video this is just the way the Ffion personally likes to do the head arm.
@@vinestar12 great explanation. I must have a decent squeeze then because I've never failed to finish from top once I've connected to the bicep. I've managed to finish it from bottom a few times too (not on anyone purple belt and up), which is another benefit of doing it hand-on-bicep.
@Daredevil So that's definitely not true. There's a fair bit of adjustment but she's just making sure that you get it right. I've subbed many opponents with this exact technique.
