Finally, clarity! My dad insists you should "let her grind" until it engages.. I try to tell him that's not good for the boat, but of course with powdered-butt syndrome he won't listen to me.
lol, we won’t comment
I love your channel! Thanks for keeping it going.
Wow, thank you!!!😊
Great info.
Glad you found it to be :)
Great content. I am guilty of granny shifting, will try this. My only concern is not clearing feeling where neutral is and throttling by mistake. Yamaha outboard.
Great tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you
Our pleasure David!
Does the shifting apply to Yamaha Jet Boats also? Specifically 2011 or similar, not the new ones with electronic paddles etc... Thank you.
Jet boats do not shift with “gears”, but rather with gates or diverters to direct the flow of the water “jet”. They do work very differently
Jet boats are “direct drive” and do not have a transmission (F-N-R). You are moving the “bucket” and diverting the thrust. Even in Neutral, the prop is still engaged, the reverse bucket, if properly adjusted attempts to cancel out fwd and reverse thrust to maintain neutral thrust, vs a Outboard/IO with a gear case, where the prop will stop spinning, giving you true neutral.
100%
Why not get a volvo sterndrive? No problem
True. I actually forgot to mention the difference between dog and cone clutch (Volvo and Mercury Bravo) systems . Thanks for pointing that out :)
