For breaking geodes, if you put the geode in a sock and hit it with the hammer, the rock shards wont go everywhere/hit you and it wont roll around as much!
I struggle with negative self talk too, and I've found it helpful to correct myself with neutral statements rather than overly positive ones that don't feel genuine. So if I start to say I look like garbage or something, I'll stop myself and say no, you look like a human being doing her best. Idk if that makes sense but it's been helpful for me. ❤

I am from Iowa and the geode is our state rock. When I was little at Girl Scouts, we would find them by the river and open them with hammers. They taught us for tough ones like that to put a towel over it before hitting with the hammer to avoid the pieces flying off and hitting you. Hopefully that helps for next time!

I don't understand how so many beach trips seem like the beaches are empty. Do people in California not go to the water much? I'm in western Washington and I can't recall a single time I have seen a completely empty beach. Even in bitingly cold weather, people will be taking walks along the water.

You and your channel is literally affecting my life so much!🥰 Here are three of them:
1. I am now an eager beach-goer because I am looking for rocks and seaglass. I find mostly seaglass, not to many pretty stones at the beach where I live in Norway. But I have to say my mind goes quite and the hours goes by so fast. It’s really my type of meditation, I love it.
2. I am also now in my Taylor Swift era! I have never really been a fan, but after watching you talk about her I now listen to her songs everyday! Favorite album is def Lover❤ And the songs warms my heart and makes me so happy!
3. The third one is probably the most impactful one for me. I have discovered that I actually have a disease/diagnosis, and I’m not just a weirdo who picks at my skin both intentionally and unintentionally. Seeing you mention that you do it and that there is actually a diagnosis for it has been so helpful! I feel I don't need to be as embarrassed about how my fingers look at times. And reading about Dermatillomania have helped me understand why and when it happens.

When you have been busy and you feel like that busy-ness has affected the way you look, instead of telling yourself you look a mess, or feeling like you're lying to yourself when you say you look great, what if you said, "I look like I worked hard at the beach!" You don't. You look great. You look great most of the times you say you look a mess. But maybe this shift will help you to shift away from the negative self-talk? If not, meet me by the flagpole after the bell. You can't keep talking to my friend like that and get away with it.

I loved this video. For the past six months I have been recovering from a stroke. I was missing you before my stroke, and then I was hoping I would be able to see you and the kids once I was able to get back online. My prayers were answered! When my kids were younger my sister in law got this special paint. It made the wall like a chalkboard. So they were able to use chalk to draw. If they got it on normal wall it was easy to clean.
Hi Colleen, I think that was harbor seal (not a sea lion) you saw sunning on the off-shore rock and the blue animals you found on the beach are velella velella. I volunteer with Beach Watch in San Francisco and we saw a big die off of these By-the-wind Sailors this spring also. Thank you for your videos!

And I personally pronounce it bresh because I feel like brek is harsh lol but I really don’t know what is the correct way. PS I love rocks/crystals/minerals and I love to see all of yours. Is anyone else freaking out about the fact that the women's D1 basketball championship game just got 18.7 million viewers, making it the most watching basketball game (men's or women's, college or pro) in the last 5 years!!! I cannot stop thinking about it and all of the haters who scoffed at me when I told them that I only watched women's sports because they are just better. Women's sports are better, and now we have the proof, it's incredible.
Tortilla Talk Question: Have you started teaching your kids about disabilities and people with different seen and unseen disabilities? I know from personal experience that many people do not teach their kids about all of the different disabilities and it results in a lot of staring and pointing, which I don't blame the kids for, they were literally never taught that someone that looked like me existed. Anyways, I know there is a really great children's book called the 'ABCs of Inclusion' that talks about all of these different kids with different disabilities, that may be a place to start if you have not started already.

Ohhh girl I hear ya kids are FAST! I work in daycare and my job is to stare at the children and watch them super close. They still get hurt and they still get into things, just a blink or rubbing your eyes can be long enough sometimes 😂

for the solar eclipse my dad set up his camera with a telescope lens, his battery was dead but we watched the shadow of the eclipse on the ground from through the camera

Interesting story. My aunt Bambi (Math teacher at a public school) would let her toddler kids crayon up two walls in her house. Just, covered in crayon. And my Mom (her slightly older sister), would disparage it as "trashy". Those kids are about 50 now. They were wiz kids in public school. They went to University. One (Jana) to The University of Maryland. Later to become an intern in the Western Whitehouse in 1998. At the same time as Monica Lewinsky. But returned unscathed. She's a Hospital Administrator married to a rocket scientist in Ft. Lauderdale, now. Both of them are my successful younger first cousins and have their own kids. I don't know if they let them crayon the walls.

Colleen precious funny moments- that look when she said she was pretty and that music! The sea lion and birdie conversation! Cracking the rock and grasping the front of her neck saying it hit her jugular - the jugular is on the side is the neck! Classic Iconic! Wesley only talks to Miranda! Watch Miranda! “It’s frigging scorpion !” Be Miranda- and he gleefully giggles when she shows up for the conversation! The kids drawing in the wall- get, are they pooping? Steph would go behind her daddy’s chair sing and draw on the walls and Yep, she was pooping! It was hilarious! Maisy is a talker and I’m loving her for her conversational ability- what the heck! Flynn is just getting cuter everyday and looks like dear Carrot! Loved it when he said Miranda Miranda Miranda all day! Loving you guys so much!❤ You make my days especially when they’re a little sad because I’m missing some of my pets and beloved mom.

Not a ttq but just sharing my experience.. Ending negative talk about myself was the best thing I ever did but breaking the habit of it was so challenging because you do it a lot without realizing it. It definitely helped me heal a lot more than I ever thought it would. I kind of feel like it change even the way I look at life now. I didn’t do it every time but just having at least one positive thing you say back to yourself after you catch something negative, worked well for me. Like whether it was me commenting negatively on my body or commenting on my intelligence, I always just reminded myself “okay well no matter what, I am enough”. YOU ARE ENOUGH COLLEEN!!❤❤ You are worth more than you know. You inspire so many more people than you realize. You help people through so much! You know these things, you just need to remind yourself when you comment on yourself negatively.
My sister did it a completely different way, she wears a hair tie or rubber band around her wrist all the time and when she caught herself she would snap her wrist with the rubber band. I guess this can work I’m just not sure if I like this method or if it’s actually a positive solution lol. I would probably ask a therapist about this one first😂

We have jelly fish which you definitely do not want to get near!! The seal was so cute!! The lemon was either a dud or you have to use that stick thing to really break it apart ?
