you are a LIFE SAVER!!! ice been trying to make fins for months! I'm making a tail for my senior thesis and this was sooo helpful! Do you have any tips on how to make the fluke with silicone caulking?
Hey Harrison! It is AMAZING you are making a mermaid tail for your thesis! I hope you will document your process and share it for other DIYer mers out there like us. I used almost the same technique to make the fluke. The difference was that I did not use the vinyl to peel away, but painted it all directly on the neoprene (rays, white base, color and beauty coat. It would be possible to make a fluke entirely out of aquarium silicone like the fins here, however it would not be easily swimmable, you would still want to sandwich a monofin nside. There is a mer on the mernetwork who did it mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?14425-Here-we-go-again-neoprene-and-silicone-caulk-hybrid-take-2. Stay tuned for the next video on installation.
What if you wanted to make all the webbing of the fins (including the fluke) translucent? Is it possible? That's the sort of look I've always wanted for my potential mermaid tail, since it's more realistic, but no one seems to have done it! I wish I could find a point of reference :/
Hi my names Cassie . I love you vids and would love if you could make me a mermaid tail when I get the money and my measurements . I’m afraid I’ll mess it up . I would really love it id you could
I have never used silicone before. I am was wanting to write out words on t-shirts,. What is the best way to wash it, so that it will stay on permanently?
Hi ! i scrolled through the comments, in case i asked a question that already got answered. A few people seem to wonder the same thing as me: what is the solvent you used please :)
Hi Ryuco, I am not sure in hindsight, but I think at least 3, 1 for the rays and the rest for the base color, other colors and beauty coat. The process was the same as the fins, with the exception that it was applied directly over neoprene. If you want to make it without neoprene, check out this mer who did it mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?14425-Here-we-go-again-neoprene-and-silicone-caulk-hybrid-take-2
hi my name is mermaid delfina and i have been waching your videos for years and I think you made me stronger about my passion ! thank you aqua mermaids!
Great tutorial! Could one do this and keep most everything clear..? Like, maybe just with sparkles so the fin and spines look transparent..? Or does the silicone alone have a flesh-like, yellowy tone? Thanks so much! ^_^ ♥
I would varie from 1K to 3K according if you want full silicone or partial neoprene and silicone. Plus the any extra fins. You can email us at info@aquamermaid.com with the type of tail you would like and we can send you an exact quote.
what brand is the solvent? I don't find anywhere that looks like it or that is okay or that is not toxic
Do you use the same process to create the end of the tail or something different?
I have a question : will normal silicone peel off to acetate foil?
Very interesting tutorial. Did you make your fluke (the fin over your monofin) in a similar way? Or did you make a mold for that?
Thank you! For the fluke, I basically did the same thing as for the fins, but painted it all right on the neoprene instead of using the vinyl
How did it not stick to the cardboard?
Will this work if you're trying to add on to a fin fun tail?
Silicone is heavy and a fabric tail won't hold the weight of it. Better to use a base of neoprene fabric.
AquaMermaid ok thankyou😊☺
Idkw but I'm watching this in my mermaid tail it's just a kids one bought off of ups so it's not silicone or anything
Or you could just get a pillow case, some old pants and bam
