1990-91 was my favorite era in skateboarding. Loved how big the boards still were, they created the perfect style for the newer tricks coming out like 360 flips, 360 ollies, blunt slides, big spins, kickflip grinds, manuals, big ollie grabs, disaster slides. Then around '92/'93 skating went thru a very ugly phase with the skinny decks, tiny wheels, ugly tech style, huge clown clothes. That short 2 year era from '90 to '91 was truly golden. The Blind Video testifies to that.
@a w Based on conversations with old skaters of the time and reviewing Thrasher magazine, 1992 was a year full of the famous big pants, small wheels, the decks at that time were football-shaped and they were still big until mid-1993... from that year the new norm was the small Popsicle
I agree, I've always thought '89-'90 was probally the most fun I had on a skateboard. Decks were still big but they were getting noses and some concave, and street skateing was staring to come into its own. Another good video from this time period that doesn't get enough recognition is Blockhead's Splendid Eye Touture.
I just read a comment that said they never saw Danny skate street. It made me feel old. I remember when Guy was TINY, Gonz was a weirdo (not the legend everybody recognizes him as today) and Jason Lee was considered the best street skater on Blind. Matt Hensley was a God and Plan B wasn't even a thing yet. 1990. Fuck...most of you were JUST being born.
This is great to see Video Days unseen footage. It's great to see more if Danny Way when he rode for Blind with the legends. Thanks for uploading this. 👏👊🛹
This has got to be one of the best things I've seen. Some of it was used in the Blind video "Video Days" back in '91. But I've never seen anymore of those sessions till now...awesome! They were doing some really cool stuff. Things that would've made "Video Days" even better than it is...if that's possible. I'd forgotten Way was in Blind for a short bit.
This is amazing, spike Jonze behind the camera, lee, gonz and way killing it. I can't stop watching it, and holy shit young Danny way looks like that chick with the buzzed head in the walking dead
I"ll have to check that one out. I only recently saw Brian Lotti's part in Now N Later that came out in 91. It's golden. Also, Rubbish Heap which came out in '89 was awesome, especially Jeremy Klein's part.
jason lee was by far the best skater out of those guys back in the day, but look where mr danny way is now, nice to see some old skool on the tube, lovin' it
Wow, I never seen this before, they skate in real life just like in they video parts, thats how skating was back then, not try a trick for days or months just to land it one time. Gonz was ollieing high out that effel tower bank and Jason Lee 360 kickflip up the stairs so smooth and easy.
actually Gonz started Blind - he came up with the name and did it on condition with Rocco that he could take Jason Lee who was on World until then .. Way was the 3rd to join the team
That's exactly what I thought when I first saw this. Some good stuff here that wasn't in Video Days. I think this special feature stuff from "The Man Who Souled the World", which I'm now going to order : )
@m1k3too yes, check out questionable, virtual reality and a very short second hand smoke (due to breaking his neck in a freak surf accident) he also skates street a bit in the dc video (backside 360 down the barcelona steps) i really really like his street style.
NeverSummer makes a 33x10inch board (Assault 2013) with maple and fiberglass in a classic 80's early 90's shape. Anybody who wants their kickflips to look like Natas or Gonz should pick one up. I love it. All the oldschool shit you remember with modern parts and concave. Its sick.
Wow...I remember back in the 80s, thinking Gonzales was the MAN. Jason Lee actually seems to be a little better skater than Danny Way, because he's so fluid. This footage gives me so many good flashbacks, now I wanna go out and bust a session. ^__^
dude i knew jason could skate but i didn't know he had such power and precision! i remember when i first learned he used to skate. i mostly regret that i was born so late i can't see a 1080p of any of these times. at least im used to bootlegs because the art they used to make is better than some of this overhyped shit. i gotta admit i a saw a few more 5 min clips cause i just watched th 20 50 vid. i loved it but i really wanna see a clearer copy of this man
@chrisdrage1 No skateboarding was dead back then,we skated streets trying the same tricks,Bs 180 flips,360 flips etc.If you seen a pretty good skater at a familar spot it was really rare.I was skatin with Bob Puleo around then since we went to school together for years and he was awesome,it was fun not to much of this 540 Fs 180 triple flip or whatever there doin now.
i forgot that dway rode for blind. jason is wearing a bauhaus shirt. that's when it was ok for skaters to listen to goth. and finally, holy fucking shit.
maaaaan where did you get this footage!!!!??? great excellent in my favourates straight away i second what adamwillgo says i was dreaming of the out takes for video days when i was at high school too! cheers dude
Mark looks so serene chaaa like ride the energy waves bro then when that not cool move to New York and be the only person who knows how to dress in the whole fucking city
Analysis: man, killing them softly, by SINISTER. gosh, I saw all those dogs and the burrito in the bank....but wasn't stuck on stupid like Matthew Mconoghys' movie with Gina Gershon.
its trippy to think about what different paths they all ended up following
Could watch this for hours. Gonz and J. Lee had and still have the raddest style ever. This is skateboarding.

in the middle of 1993 onwards it was where the measurements in decks changed drastically
@a w Based on conversations with old skaters of the time and reviewing Thrasher magazine, 1992 was a year full of the famous big pants, small wheels, the decks at that time were football-shaped and they were still big until mid-1993...

ridiculous. 3 of my favorite skaters. Fantastic styles for miles.
that has got to be one of the best skate movies on youtube....
Legends at work
great footage!! mark gonzales & jason lee have the best style on skateboards EVER.
wow, jason lee was insane with the tres,.. i can't believe this is 91, that was almost unheard of
Sabored Yes he was... and this was from 1990, not 1991. Crazy, huh?
this is one of the greatest youtube videos ever...
This is definitely 1990, not '91 - but priceless!

Zap Servicesusa Gonz is still a weirdo, hence why we love him.
I was in high school. Remember this well.
I think Guy was the best skater on Blind at the time
Ok boomer

Yeah, Virtual Reality is the worst video off all time.
This is amazing, spike Jonze behind the camera, lee, gonz and way killing it. I can't stop watching it, and holy shit young Danny way looks like that chick with the buzzed head in the walking dead
Did Spike think The Gonz should have went to the hospital!? Cliff hanger man!!
I"ll have to check that one out. I only recently saw Brian Lotti's part in Now N Later that came out in 91. It's golden. Also, Rubbish Heap which came out in '89 was awesome, especially Jeremy Klein's part.
that was great, look at the year, theese guys were ahead of their time. PLEASE post more videos like this. Im gonna watch that again right now! thanx
jason lee was by far the best skater out of those guys back in the day, but look where mr danny way is now, nice to see some old skool on the tube, lovin' it
Cool that you're bringing the old stuff back. Really great dude.
Jason Lee ahead of his time
the kick-flip pivot at 1:45 takes me back to the era
Wow, I never seen this before, they skate in real life just like in they video parts, thats how skating was back then, not try a trick for days or months just to land it one time. Gonz was ollieing high out that effel tower bank and Jason Lee 360 kickflip up the stairs so smooth and easy.
Epic!
It’s also a kind of tribute to
Jeff Hedges & Claus Grabke's part of the classic 🛹'ing Video:
STREETS ON FIRE 🔥 © by Santa Cruz
(Especially the scenes beneath the Eifel-Tower)
Cool upload & I really enjoyed watching it ✌🏼‼️
actually Gonz started Blind - he came up with the name and did it on condition with Rocco that he could take Jason Lee who was on World until then .. Way was the 3rd to join the team
i haven't laughed so hard in days..that skating is still amazing to this day
Seeing the Gonz in these times was like seeing some kind of mythical creature
+10 for uploading this - Danny Way and Collin Provost are so related
that nose manaual jason did looked so perfect.
so fresh, and yet, so clean. ain't nobody dope as me...
That's exactly what I thought when I first saw this. Some good stuff here that wasn't in Video Days.
I think this special feature stuff from "The Man Who Souled the World", which I'm now going to order : )
so pure. so raw
I love this!
Jason Lee, so smooth.
My God, there was such a great skateable fountain right under the Eiffel Tower?!
it never got more cool or proper than that let's be honest. this is it
@m1k3too yes, check out questionable, virtual reality and a very short second hand smoke (due to breaking his neck in a freak surf accident) he also skates street a bit in the dc video (backside 360 down the barcelona steps) i really really like his street style.

Wow...I remember back in the 80s, thinking Gonzales was the MAN. Jason Lee actually seems to be a little better skater than Danny Way, because he's so fluid. This footage gives me so many good flashbacks, now I wanna go out and bust a session. ^__^

This is skateboarding.
you gotta make it your own
i forgot that dway rode for blind.
jason is wearing a bauhaus shirt. that's when it was ok for skaters to listen to goth.
and finally, holy fucking shit.
wow... there was a skate park at the bottom of the effiel tower???!?!?!?
1:28 counts as a duck-slide?
only makes it better
super, super pros...
@WtfBoomKed mark was 23, jason was 20 and danny was 15-16
maaaaan where did you get this footage!!!!??? great excellent in my favourates straight away i second what adamwillgo says i was dreaming of the out takes for video days when i was at high school too! cheers dude
spike jonze
@nicktheclicker 16, jason must be 20 and mark 21
this thing is built to skate
no water should destroy this perfect harmony of skating und concrete.
There's a skate spot under the Eifel tower?
Is Earl a Peter Murohy's fan?!
sweet gonz grinded a spinning carousel
whoa?
Back 50 back 3
Mark looks so serene chaaa like ride the energy waves bro then when that not cool move to New York and be the only person who knows how to dress in the whole fucking city
is that underneath Eiffel Tower spot still there or is it long gone?
You think I need to go to the hospital, Spike?
i wonder why danny didnt hav a part in video days
Baka Skateboards He had left to form Plan B by the time they put Video Days together.
How old is Danny in this video?
How did they clean all the dog shit off their wheels and trucks?
Mark Gonzales and Jason Lee are like 25 and Danny Way looks like he is 17
Rad skating
spike jonez shot this. his initial bombing?
5:04 was tiiight
@m1k3too try plan b's questionable video.
Its not an official "skate spot" It looks to me like a dried up man made pond hence the big puddles and ducks hanging around.
@lordcrumpton69 hell no gonz was way sicker....and just better board control all together
gonz clip @5:01
Analysis: man, killing them softly, by SINISTER. gosh, I saw all those dogs and the burrito in the bank....but wasn't stuck on stupid like Matthew Mconoghys' movie with Gina Gershon.
@zack061692 i hope you're kidding.
