This game is the game that got me into flight sims. I sincerely miss thid game. I used to play it on my dads laptop and my grandfathers old pc. I had almost every aircraft. This game is one of the first games i played seriously. Thank you for making this video. This game wasnt a failure in my eyes and i think they should allow downloads from the website again.

As a 15 year old that was used to only playing War Thunder and having Flight Simulator X that didn't want to run and with only a keyboard was Microsoft Flight amazing for me, loved flying around Hawaii, seeing the mountains there and trying to landing places, seeing this game very nostalgic for me, tried finding it more recently for nostalgia, but haven't been able to find it.
I played Flight at the Microsoft Booth at CES in Las Vegas. I told the sales rep "no offense, but this is arcadeish, seems way stripped down, this won't do well, I'm sorry".
You could also buy Alaska! But unfortunately if you bought all the DLCs back when they were available you can't re-download them if you've uninstalled the game
Microsoft Flight 2012 was actually better than fsx in some point and it's really a good memory flying this simulator, you can even walk out the cockpit and swim in the water. And that was impressive for a flight sim
this game did have some potential. but I do believe that they neither ran out of time or there was another project that they were working on that made them discontinue this game. it's really sad tbh because imagine what this game would have been if they added more and polished it.
where can I get MS Flight 2012? I tried the installer from chip and from another website, but they both failed. I had it in the past, so it's not because of my laptop
It failed because MS totally misjudged the market. Fortunately they recognized that fact almost instantly and killed it before it even really got a decent start. Further, all of the reviews within the FS community were beyond HORRIBLE and blogs were burning it at the stake. Their intent was to create an ongoing revenue stream by constantly adding on to it. That was the new failed trend in gaming in general at the time. Version one only included a tiny part of the world which was intended to get you "hooked". But the FS enthusiasts would have none of that. Interestingly they took a totally different approach with MSFS2020. This is why they returned to the "buy the product in it's totality", and just use it, approach while at the same time incorporating it into their "Game Pass" system for those types of less committed gamers. They had obviously leaned a very bitter lesson. Let's face it. It was a total piece of crap. I was one of it's very disappointed victims.

The best feature is honestly that you can leave the plane at any time and walk around - like in train sim world, no flight simulator that I know except Turboprop Flight simulator has that feature
Only way I can see X-plane survive is if they sell themselves to Google and use their stadia cloud computing for the texture and mesh rendering cuz they can’t compete with MSFS 2020 they don’t have the resources to even render 10% of MSFS 2020

I enjoyed Microsoft Flight for what it was. Besides Hawaii there also was Alaska and more regions were supposed to come out later. It didn't lived long enough for that to happen though. I did a complete playthrough of all the missions and landing challenges. Some of them were pretty advanced (like ILS landings in no visibilty). I think this is an even further watered down "trial" version. Although why a f2p game would have a trial version is beyond me. Maybe this is the beta version or something. Anyway, from what I recall with a lot of the free content that wasn't removed, there was some trouble with being talked down to, as you mentioned. The missions were actually pretty fun, but there were a lot more than you got to see it seems. There was one where there was a hint and you had to figure out where certain (Geocaches I think they were referred to as? Not sure) things were, it was a lot like The Crew 2 lootboxes in freedrive. There were passenger missions where you had to fly a certain way to satisfy your passenger, usually smoothly or they would be unsatisfied (or there was one with live cargo, but idr whether you had to pay for that one). Goldrush missions were a thing, and those were basically missions where you had rings by windmills and you had to get the rings without hitting the windmill blades. The missions were actually fun, and many of them free. For some reason this version seems to have removed almost all of even the free ones. But there was a lot bad about it. Many of the Geocache missions required a P-51 or more powerful (if there were any more powerful, idr), or they couldn't be reached due to their altitude, and the P-51 you did have to pay for. One island on Hawaii got pretty boring, especially when you could fly the world in FSX. Characters were often annoying. Overall there wasn't a lot there, and too much of even that was locked behind a paywall, either directly or in the case of geocache missions indirectly by not providing the player with powerful enough planes to reach them. Overall it was a bad game with missions that in themselves were fun. I really hope we see more scenarios in FS2020 that are similar to what this game had. I actually rather liked the passenger missions that would force you to either limit g-forces and fly smoothly, or I think there was an adrenaline junkie one where they wanted you to fly high and wild or they would get bored. Aerial obstacle courses should make a comeback, that was fun. Geocaching was especially fun with friends, as you all look for something and then when someone gets close you try to triangulate where it is. But business model was awful, and didn't offer hardly anything in terms of variety. One thing that I think would have gone a long way would have been to be more upfront with what is locked behind a paywall instead of trying to frustrate the player into paying more, more area, and really this game just did not work well in a F2P setup. It just cost too much to make a very small amount of space as pretty as possible instead of doing what MS2020 is doing and have a large upfront payment and really work on it. Further, more multiplayer options would have helped. Mostly multiplayer was fly around, maybe talk about or help each other with missions but you couldn't really do anything versus, and co-op was just coaching each other through. And, again, more space. That was where they lost a huge chunk of their playerbase.
