I'll be waiting somewhat impatiently for your first impressions of the 30mm Macro. Your opinions are basically the only ones I'll listen to when it comes to modern Fuji lenses.
It would be nice to have a camera that does both still and video equally as well as the other, without sacrificing something, and I don't mind if there is an ability to use video, to a limited degree, on a digital "stills" camera, but I can't express my joy with the knowledge that the X-T5 is more of a "still cameras" camera for the majority, including myself. Fuji has done well deviding the X-T5 with the X-H2 ans 2s. PASM, stay on your side of the fence and best wishes with the X-H2/2s, and may our dials, from the X-T1-5 remain on future generations. Nice video - Thank You!
@@Las_cacas New battery has 700 shots, conservatively. I've shot all day music festivals with the old battery, swapping out once. We are talking 800-1500 pictures. But if you need the battery grip, the xh2 has it. Not that I would have minded if the xt5 did, but I won't miss it at all.
@@balboa0621 if the xh2 user experience is the same as the xh2s (which I own) no thanks. It takes wonderful pictures, the button layout and some of the decisions taken on the camera are very cumbersome. Not being able to press the scroll wheels and the joy stick... Etc etc...
Came back to comment - amazing work again brother. I always enjoy hearing the opinions of people who actually are who they say they are professionally because the information actually makes sense.
As someone who does photography as a hobby I put aesthetics of the camera itself way up there with the images the camera takes. I find myself taking out a camera more if it looks pretty. And sure people value different looks but I love the retro, film camera look the Fuji lineup offers, and the X-TX line is for me the perfect balance between looking cool and taking great photos. I think I'll be upgrading to the X-T5 and your video helped confirm my choice. Thanks!
@@GajanBalan I went today to local London Camera Exchange shop to get a felling of xt5. My first impression was: very light and bit "plastic" in handling. Just saying it as a owner of xt2 only. Metal on the body didn't feel as good as on xt2. Black finish is bit odd too.
Finally!!! My X-T2 will finally be retired 🎉 After weeks with the X-T4 and X-H2S, I clamored for a classic Fujifilm UX. No flippy screens or PASM dials for my primary photography tool, please! This X-T5 is exactly what I want as an upgrade with higher resolution, IBIS, proper video specs for the occasional clip, and of COURSE, the return of the tilting screen 😊 This is speaking to me so hard that I did something I’ve never done and preordered a new model. Can’t wait to get this in hand! So yeah just continue to build the brand loyalty Fujifilm…and keep the firmware updates coming!
Gajan, you did an outstanding job. You covered this with your friend from a photography perspective, which is who this camera is meant for, flip screen be damned. I have the same view as your friend as I was never overly excited by a flip screen. For video and maybe a few special circumstances, maybe, but photographers never had or really care about flip screens due to composition. You are right and whether you choose to or not you did the Fuji XT5 justice by sticking to the facts and leaving the fluff alone and for that in my mind, this was a review. It is a hybrid camera with video features, which is where the market is today, but all of the buttons and dials are back, and if you want a video-first camera, as you said the XH2 is more than capable.
Finally. Been waiting for the right camera to upgrade to since the X-T2. The 3 had that impossible-to-use rear dial (and shrunken exposure comp dial). The 4 had the awkward screen and grew a touch too large. The H line has the SPAM dial. The Pro line got a weird screen and too much expense in the optical vf. The E line has like 2 buttons and dials on the body. Finally. Finally.
As much as I want this, I probably will still stay with my X-T3 up until it gives up. Good thing about Fuji is they still release updates for old cameras too.
Great video Gajan! Seems like a great hybrid camera but still created with a photo-first mindset. As much as the fully articulating screen helps solo content creators I’ve always felt it was annoying for photography so I’m glad to see they went back to their older style
@@rfa2381 That's another solution. But it also adds complexity, and bulkyness to the screen. We'll see wether that screen will stood the test of time. The point is, for photo centric camera, this screen is perfect! Especially if we take a look at the history of the X-T line, it's always been tilt. X-T4 was an anomaly in the line, because Fuji tried to patched the X-H1 market failure with it. And don't bring up the X-T200, because that's not really an X-T, more like X-A7 with EVF.
Great releases from Fuji. Funny enough I think this puts the X-T4 kind of in a sweet spot between those who want some XH features in a XT body. I.e. flip out screen and a battery grip. I’ll hold on to my X-T4 for a little longer due to that.
I love the look of the xt top dials and those on my x100v but I still assign speed, ISO and aperture to the front and back dials, just find it much much quicker to get results. Good there's the option to use it how you prefer.
Please do a deep dive into it! it may not fit with where you want to go overall, but you've been my go-to for Fuji content for several years now. I don't know what it would take to convince you to do so, but I'd be greatful for it! Still on my bucket list to shoot with you one day!
It’s weird that they didn’t bring back metering mode switch. As you said movie/stills should be on under iso dial with other functions since it’s more photo-centric camera
Honestly, the camera seems super cool, but ultimately, it’s the 30mm macro I’m most interested in. Seems like the best macro lens for digitizing film from my Leica MP! 😂
X-T3 user upgrading. One feature not mentioned is the pixel shift photos at insane resolution. Has limits but for say product shots, amazing. It’s a great camera.
That guy you handed the camera to seems to misremember how the X-T2 and 3 looked. They have the same amount of buttons, dials and switches. Some buttons have moved a little and some switches have new functions, but the X-T5 is almost identical to the X-T2 in terms of buttons and stuff.
Excellent review. Could not agree with you more on two points you made. First the screen; what a welcome return to the XT3 style. Never used mine in the XT4 in the field, it was that bad a design. Second, ensuring one understands the AF-C settings and sets the correct setting for the subject. Never found the AF-C capabilities on my XT4 limiting for sport (galloping horses, cycle racing or dogs running), but I am looking forward to seeing the real world improvements in the XT5. Thanks for the review. My order for the XT5 was placed this afternoon. Can't wait!
Great content as always. I completely agree with your thoughts on the sub-dials; the biggest thing keeping me from upgrading from my X-T3 is the dedicated photometry dial. They could totally smush the "Still/Movie" dial into the slew of stills options and reopen that space for something more dial-friendly. Can't wait to see your 30mm Macro review 👀
Yesterday I used my X-T5 and 16-55mm in fairly bad hospital lighting (for a work thing), in a bustling crowd, and found the autofocus and face recognition were rock solid. A great first work-related outing with it.
@@GajanBalan Sure, I am down for that. I've got to confirm a few things in the morning then should be good for a call in the afternoon. Send an invite on Outlook and I will join.
I totally agree and will buy the x-t5. matched with 27mm f2.8 this combo is almost pocketable and carry anywhere everyday camera. i wished that it had the x-h2s internals but i think fuji did the right thing with equip this with x-h2 internals.
Hi Gajan, do you have an arca plate from the x-t4 that you can test for fit on the x-t5? I’m wondering if the anti rotation pins match, such as the RRS plate from the x-t4. Thank you.
The camera looks beautiful I was wondering if I needed to upgrade from my xt4 but I won’t have to do that. Great video! I’m glad I saw this cause your videos don’t pop up like they used to.
Pre-ordered one already! Couldn’t agree more that its a return to form. I learned many of my photography skills on the X-T3 and this feels like the perfect upgrade to it.
Electronic shutter readout speed? Can the electronic shutter be used for action? Not upgrading until electronic shutter readout speed is at least 1/160s
Well that was fast to get a review! Lol…great video! Was there some Embargo on releasing the bid? I’m trying to debate between the xpro 3 or this now…what do you think?
Clear, comprehensive video as always. I notice a lot of XT5 coverage talks about the upgrade from the XT3 (and barely mentions the 4). As someone who bought the XT4 earlier this year (*not* for the screen), I wonder how well they actually sold. Seems like a lot of people who held out are getting exactly what they wanted.
at first I was a bit off-put by the removal of the flip screen, as an X-T4 owner who uses the video features for work, and photo features for fun, the video functionality was the main reason I went with the camera in the first place (along with it's great looks). But thinking about it more, when I'm using it for photography, and most videography (except when filming myself) the tilt screen is actually far more useful (and very critically for me, looks far less goofy when shooting on the street). Where as the X-T4 was 50/50 photo/video, the X-T5 seems more 60/40. A little upsetting as I love the X-T aesthetic and personally much prefer the exposure dials on the X-T system as opposed to the standard like on the XH2s, which better suites my needs in terms of 'features'. For me two years ago the X-T4 was the absolute perfect camera all around. Now I feel like I need (want) an X-T5 AND an X-H2s. Guess I just need to keep working and get both because they are uniquely compelling. :) Love the videos as always! Upon seeing half a dozen X-T5 videos in my sub feed I knew this one would be the most insightful and wasn't let down!
I still shoot with an old Nikon DSLR with a 50mm 1.2 AIs lens with no complaints. However, I've been planning to upgrade to a mirrorless but none have grabbed my attention. The Nikon Z, Canon, Sony seem like they came from the same manufacturing plant. The Fuji XT5 looks and feels like old school, just what I had always wanted. Thanks to your video it has reinforced my decision to purchase the XT5 and with that become a part of the Fujifilm family.
What would be a good starter lens for getting into Fujifilm cameras? I am very intrigued by this camera...would it just be to start with the kit lens? the 18-55mm?
I'm thinking that the front dial is only meant for changing between iso/aperture/shutter/expo.comp if the button is held in also noting it is only accessible when dials are set to C/T. I'm going off how the xt3 functions although I'd like to be able to assign it to more than that via firmware just to have the option. Let me know if I'm wrong or misunderstood because that would be an oversight from Fuji to have a dead button.
I’m so glad I waited on the XT4 and XPRO3 now can sell my XT3 and get this. They got it right. It really looks great. Please (PLEASE) do fully review it, but this was a great initial impression.
Given that Fuji X100V is rarely available and quite a lot increased in price, do you think that XT5 is a good alternative, considering the relative size/footprint while being more versatile ? Also, is there a possibility that Fuji will release other pancake lens than the 27mm in a more wider focal length range? Like 35mm equivalent or so?
I think your buddy who missed the "super clean body" of the X-T2/3 was confused. Claiming this one has way more buttons when I'm pretty sure it's the exact same amount. Perhaps he's remembering the X-E series? I'd like to see this camera next to the X-T1, I loved the size of that camera and missed it when upgrading to the X-T3. Thanks for sharing.
This is a great review. Thanks! I'm in market for new camera (upgrading from an Olympus) and considering XT5, XH2, and OM1. I'm leaning towards the XT5. I'm mostly a photographer (amateur), only about 10% of what I do is video. Just wanting a good quality, all - around (landscape, wildlife, family events, grandchildren sports) camera. Thanks again for the review.
I ordered one at 7:30am this morning along with the new 30mm lens. I'm adding this to my collection of all the Fuji XT camera's starting with the X-T1 thru the X-T4. I'm anxious to get my hands on this and wring it out and see the differences between it and my X-T4 and X-T3. It will be nice to get back to a smaller body like that of the X-T1.
Any chance you can see how the rear screen is sized vs. previous X-T models so I can see if I can buy an early screen protector for my X-T5 preorder? For example will the X-T4 screen protectors fit etc.? Thanks!
I like when a flip out screen can close display to body to hide the screen altogether. But this is solved quite nicely in the xpro3. I guess the tilt on the t5 isn’t so bad either
Thanks for the excellent review. I agree, why is movie mode not just another option on the top dial? That's a great idea! We have between 1 and 8000 the T B A settings on the XT-4, why not add an M for movie mode? This would free the underlying dial to return to the metering mode settings as it was on the XT-3. I use the viewfinder for all my photography, and only use the screen for reviewing shots, so I couldn't care less how it is articulated. There are a few times I have to lie down or hold the camera above my head, but these situations are not going to make a big issue on how I choose a camera screen. Other than I want to be able to reverse it and close it - I just had the screen of my X100V shattered by what I can only imagine was a small knock. I'd prefer to be able to rotate and close the screen to a position that it is not vulnerable.
Just to confirm, you said this also has the 2x digital zoom in video from the X-H2? That seems like a pretty awesome feature, as someone who shoots only with primes.
Welcome back from Chennai bro! Amazing content always! Hopefully they release an XT-40/50 , smaller than XT-5. On a sidetone, where do you get your rings? Especially the gold one.✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Hi , im a huge fan your channel. Can I ask if you listen a noise coming from your camera like a fan ? not a major sound but something I noticed. Thanks for you help.
Yea this room was actually not treated well. Tbh Audio is something I’ve had to wrangle over the months and only now I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. Always been a visuals first guy 😅
I have the X-T4 and am a photography first user. When X-H2 came out, I was still not tempted to pick one up despite the 40mp improvement. However, the 3-axis tilt screen is the reason alone that I might pick up this camera. (fully articulating screen on the X-T4 when using shutter release bugs me a lot when shooting at certain angles on a tripod.). Anyway, great review!
I’m not very familiar with the XT series. Does the Xt5 allow users to save custom shoot modes like, landscape, action and portrait modes such as in the Xh2 series? Thank you.
Having the XH1 I was eager to upgrade to the rumored 40 MP sensor for landscape photography. The XH2 removed several of the XH1 features I liked (tilt screen, lever focus mode, clickable dials), so I waited for the XT5 (I don't care about whether the controls are on the deck or in the dials so presence or absence of "vintage controls" is irrelevant to me). But having seen the comparison of images with the 26 mp sensor of the XT4 and the 40 of the XT5 or XH2 I don't see any improvement in resolution at all, even when pixel peeping. Correct me if I am wrong. So, the only reason I see to upgrade is for battery life or pixel shifting.
Been using it for fast equine sports photography for a couple of months now. I have got around it's shortcomings...if indeed they could be called that. The lack of a grip...has proved not a problem. The battery life is superb. The buffer...well, this is the biggest problem. However, shooting hief and compressed raw and only zone focus (Not subject detect, which affects this) I get enough for what I shoot. High ISO noise... it's definitely worse than the X-T3&4, but with noise reduction software where I have to shoot in lower light....well, that's a non issue. (Adds to my work time though) This camera is a beast...if I need to crop, wow! I love it and would wholy recommend the X-T5 100% 😁
Please do review of this camera. UA-cam need your take on this camera for sure. People are just so whiney and complain about what was wrong but hardly anyone share enough what the do right. How about custom functions which is very useful.
Thinking of upgrading from xt2, but can someone explain why some lenses are more compatible with this camera than others? Like, what happens when I try to use my 18-55 or 55-200? Thanks
Great review as always. I’m not stressed about photometry. I’m used to assigning a function button to it on the H2S and the X100V. Totally agree with you on the screen. I refused to give up my XT3 because of that screen. For video, sure the flippy screen is nice, but I rarely shoot video on my XT3. I need that tilt screen for low shots and verticals. Very glad it’s back.
Looks like a great piece of kit. I've been loving my time w/ the X100V for the past couple of years, also waiting for a reason to upgrade my Canon EOS R. I'm heavily invested in EF L-series lenses and hate selling things, otherwise this would be a no-brainer for me. Maybe it still is, idk. Thanks for the great video-instant subscribe.

How’s the shutter sound compared to xt4?
Electronic shutter readout speed? Can the electronic shutter be used for action? Not upgrading until electronic shutter readout speed is at least 1/160s
Well that was fast to get a review! Lol…great video! Was there some
Embargo on releasing the bid? I’m trying to debate between the xpro 3 or this now…what do you think?
At the 2 minutes mark, what you’re describing is the XT3 setup, which many didn’t like.
Wait, will there be an option for a battery grip? I think I missed that part 🤔
No, I should’ve included in the video. But no support for a grip with this model at this time.
@@GajanBalan oh ok, thanks bro! 😊
at first I was a bit off-put by the removal of the flip screen, as an X-T4 owner who uses the video features for work, and photo features for fun, the video functionality was the main reason I went with the camera in the first place (along with it's great looks).
Love the videos as always! Upon seeing half a dozen X-T5 videos in my sub feed I knew this one would be the most insightful and wasn't let down!
Very fair points, that 60/40 split was a great analogy. Thanks for watching ✌🏾
Great video as always, I'm torn now!
Thanks for watching!
does it have the switch to movie button?
yep, two minutes in that what I mention
What would be a good starter lens for getting into Fujifilm cameras? I am very intrigued by this camera...would it just be to start with the kit lens? the 18-55mm?
I'm thinking that the front dial is only meant for changing between iso/aperture/shutter/expo.comp if the button is held in also noting it is only accessible when dials are set to C/T. I'm going off how the xt3 functions although I'd like to be able to assign it to more than that via firmware just to have the option. Let me know if I'm wrong or misunderstood because that would be an oversight from Fuji to have a dead button.
I imagine that’s the case too, I should’ve tested that specifically the first time. Still a shame it can’t be re-mapped.
I’m so glad I waited on the XT4 and XPRO3 now can sell my XT3 and get this. They got it right. It really looks great. Please (PLEASE) do fully review it, but this was a great initial impression.
Nice! Thanks for watching Donavan 🙏🏾
I can't wait to get my hands on one X-T5! I don't need the 8K nor the 4k120fps so the cheaper price point of the X-T5 is ideal for my needs! Cheers!
Nice! Enjoy.
Well done, thanks much.
Nice! Enjoy the journey ✌🏾
hmm.. I'm noticing very little external changes vs my XT-3 dials and body.. something for which I'm relieved and grateful.
Largely the same, with some efficiencies.
Any chance you can see how the rear screen is sized vs. previous X-T models so I can see if I can buy an early screen protector for my X-T5 preorder? For example will the X-T4 screen protectors fit etc.? Thanks!
It looked almost exactly like the X-T3 screen but I didn’t test a screen protector to confirm 100%. Sorry!
I like when a flip out screen can close display to body to hide the screen altogether. But this is solved quite nicely in the xpro3. I guess the tilt on the t5 isn’t so bad either
Preordered mine!
Nice! Enjoy the journey ✊🏾
It does! Pretty valuable in the field.
OMG so well reviewed
Thanks for watching ✌🏾
@@GajanBalan always
Welcome back from Chennai bro! Amazing content always! Hopefully they release an XT-40/50 , smaller than XT-5. On a sidetone, where do you get your rings? Especially the gold one.✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Thanks brother! And yea, I try to find a ring or two a year. This one has been a recent favourite from Gucci.
Hi
, im a huge fan your channel.
Thank you.
You can save these modes as a customer profile, and then denote them to the rear dial to select them easier. So, yes in a way.
@@GajanBalan Thank you very much.
This is the best comprehensive review so far 👌 and is there a need for this 40mp camera if you own the xt4 and a gfx50sii ?
Thank you! I don’t think there’s a need per se, I think it’s more about how this can elevate your work if at all.
Hi would you know if the xt-5 has unlimited recording? or its set to 30mints like previous camres?
According to Fujifilm you’re looking at 6.2K30P video for 90 minutes or 4K60P for 60 minutes. In my tests, it never overheated.
@@GajanBalan Thats a good improvement. Thanks :)
If you're only seeing it through UA-cam, you won't see the difference. And maybe that's okay for your work, you may not have to upgrade at all.
@@GajanBalan I sensing that you are suggesting that in "real life" there is a visual difference between the 40 mb and the previous 24 or 26 mp. ??
As a photographer, a very important question I have is that: can you now save the white balance shift to a recipe in camera?
Yes, this was available earlier this year from the X-H cameras and possible on the X-T5 as well.
I like the still/movie toggle switch this way, quicker to switch. Your kind of shooting may be different.
That’s fair, I think more users would agree with you
Been using it for fast equine sports photography for a couple of months now.
(Adds to my work time though)
This camera is a beast...if I need to crop, wow!
Thanks
The older lenses may not be able to fully resolve the 40mp sensor.
For a video user xt4 or xt5?
Ignoring price, I think the X-T5 add enough video improvements to make it the better tool.
Good points! Thanks for watching ✌🏾
Xt5 have electronic sutter?
Yes
Looks like a great piece of kit. I've been loving my time w/ the X100V for the past couple of years, also waiting for a reason to upgrade my Canon EOS R. I'm heavily invested in EF L-series lenses and hate selling things, otherwise this would be a no-brainer for me. Maybe it still is, idk. Thanks for the great video-instant subscribe.
