YES!!! We're going Old School today, 'cause TRADITIONAL is back, and this isn't your Grandmas' look, this is Traditional 2.0! Whoo Hoo!! Let me know in the comments below WHAT STYLE YOU WANT TO SEE NEXT, and the style with the MOST comments WINS!!!! Enjoy!
I'd like to see Bohemian/Eclectic decor explained more in depth! I'd also love to see a breakdown of Contemporary, Scandinavian, and Mid Century Modern. These style tutorials are great!!
thanks so much for doing this category... my husband and i are totally this style and all the subs under traditional. its so draining trying to find things for our style lol 👍would love to see more on maximalism 😀
I love your sense of humor and fun, Lisa! You know your stuff but don’t take it all too seriously. I’m learning so much and look forward to watching all your videos! Thanks for your humble and fun attitude. ❤️
OMG Adele, this is too sweet!!! 🥰 I could never take myself too seriously, I'm just having WAY too much fun!! 🤣🤣Thank you for being such an awesome part of the channel fam!!! 😘💕
How about a style called “Eclectic”? That’s my style. Basics are traditional but fabrics may be very modern and colorful. Pairs are occasional okay, but while balance remains key, asymmetrical is great. Accent pieces may be very modern, i.e. lucite coffee table or modern metal pieces. A mixture of different materials from woods, to metals, to natural baskets, etc. makes it interesting. The color palette can be brighter but keeping the colors either in the same shades of dark to light within a room expect for a few or one standouts. I like to keep my palettes in each room somewhat within next door neighbors, but then throw in some unexpected from across the color wheel. Every room should have one thing that is totally unexpected. I’m not a professional but I learned the basics from my parents designer and then decorating has been my hobby for my 77 years. Decorating magazines and now TV shows are my favorites. All my friends have always come to me for decorating advice. I was an art history major so I have a grounding in color and design. I’m happiest when I have a decorating project! I’m getting ready to move into a retirement center so this is probably the last place I’ll have for myself to decorate. But my kids keep moving and asking for help, as do my friends. So I’ll never stop!!! Thanks for your wonderful videos. They are great-the best I’ve found on the internet! Keep up the great work. And let’s see a video on “electric”!
That is what I was trying to say above, you expressed my feelings better than I ever could. Eclectic is (to me) taking the best of different styles and making it your own. Warm, welcoming, saying come in and put your feet up and lets visit, not museum looking where you are afraid to sit down! Thanks Trish, I am even older than you, so understand where you are coming from!
At last, the Traditional gets a look in ... I've always loved this beautiful timeless design. Thank you so much... I’ve never been a sheep and followed the "Latest Trends... I followed my heart... Now both my young daughters have turned to this same Traditional design...
I would like to see breakdown series on Scandinavian design including luxury Scandinavian. Also I would LOVE for you to do a video on black and white. I love black and white just as much as you do.
Everyone in my family from my nine-year-old daughter to my husband loves watching your videos! We'd love to see more about minimalism, especially with Asian influence.
Jennifer!! OMG this is the cutest thing ever - I LOVE this!!! 🙈💕 So fun to know that you guys watch my videos as a family and learning design together!!! I will totally touch on those topics in future videos, adding this to my list of video ideas!!! 👏🏼📝 Thank you so much for commenting on this - say hello to the family for meee!!! 💗🤗✨👋🏼
I’d love to learn about transitional. I like timeless style, if there is such a thing. My meaning is just choosing pieces that aren’t fads and will become dated quickly.
Tropical Colonial, like Hawaiian style with Singaporean style... think Raffles hotel. BTW, love your historical context, a lot of hack 'interior designers' have no idea about the historical context. Good Job! Thank God for you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@marierrobillard British Colonial is lovely and very fitting to Raffles Hotel. My only concern with British Colonial is that lack of bright colours which is where Tropical steps it up a bit.
I love the style break down series, especially the nod towards the upcoming trends for each. I used to think i was traditional. After this, I think I probably lean more towards transitional...who knew!! 😊
I'd love to see tips on how to make Modern design more livable. I still want to be able to display family pictures and travel souvenirs but also love a sleek gallery looking space.

I am surely traditional at my core, but not heavy or cluttered decor. I am trying to modernize but keeping my classic pieces. I am adding modern art, cleaner accessories, plants, and scaling down clutter. Changing lighting too. Recently I have become more focused on sight lines both length and width. It is so much fun to study design and tweak your home and garden without changing everything. Many of us cannot start fresh due to cost, but we can always learn and do better. Thanks.
I think I am on the transitional train with everyone! Either way I know I will Love what you choose as you are a master of interior breakdown and it’s soo soo good to learn from you!!!
Wow, who knew Traditional spanned such a broad time frame. I’m going to start calling you Professor Holt. You are so rich in knowledge and so good and generous at loading in so much in-depth information into just 10 minutes and entertaining us along the way. I would listen to you talk about anything. Many thanks, Lisa!
Nautical, coastal, beach 2.0. updated, understated, refreshed. But still with some reference to traditional nautical.e.g. classic navy + white stripes.
I love how you always give such rich historical context for these design deep dives!! Could you please recommend your favorite timeless and/or most inspirational design books for those of us who would like to be better educated on design but aren’t going back to school for a degree? Your videos have piqued my interest, and I want to go deeper! Thank you!!
I would like to see you share Transitional Style which from my understanding incorporates contemporary and traditional. I would like to see what this style looks like thanks!

Love the breakdowns of each style. Very informative. It helps in keeping the focus on the key elements and narrowing down all the choices out there! I would love to see a style breakdown on modern rustic please! Thank you Lisa!
Oh, yum. I'm all about coastal/beach colors right now: sky blue, turquoise, beach-glass greens, sand, ivory, pearl, oyster shell, teal, blue-gray, bleached whites, with tasty lime and sunny yellow accents. I lived with dark reds, black, and mahogany for years. Now I crave light and air.
I truly would love to see combo decor, like mixing several styles. Very modern with a touch of farmhouse, maybe a piece of mid-century. I love to see mixtures of styles.

I'm not sure if it's even a real style, but I'd like to see Hygge Scandi. I imagine it would be like Scandi but softer, warmer, and more comfortable looking. You can tell I'm no decorator. : )
You are WONDERFUL! The pics of all your information are SO helpful! Your ideas, advice and knowledge are unprecedented! Not to mention your positive energy! We want another video with Traditional help!
I realize this video was posted several months ago, but I'm so happy to see Traditional (2.0) being showcased because I love it! My husband and I are renovating a 1923 Craftsman Bungalow but we're softening the style a bit on the interior. We're classical style folks so we're adding our own crown and wainscoting, etc...doing everything ourselves. The interior of the house actually had zero character when we purchased it - a bit of a blank slate, which was a bit of a blessing because we are starting fresh. Definitely a labor of love and I can't wait to decorate it with all the symmetry and sophistication of the Traditional (2.0) style! Thanks for all your hard work - your videos are awesome!
OMG Casey I am SO glad I could cover your favorite look!!! 💕👏🏻👏🏻 This sounds like an absolutely FABULOUS project - what an amazing space to be working with!!! 🤩 Good for you guys for really diving into the DIY and making it your own...thank you so much for this super sweet comment!!! 💚🥰
I love this; I want to live in a haunted library. My grandmother however is a bauhaus minimalist. There is glass, Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe everywhere lol.
Warm, Rich and Comfortable - like sitting before the fire with a cat on your lap on a golden Sunday afternoon. Sofas and chairs one can snuggle into and sleep in, with a small table at your elbow. If your home is open-plan - just paint all the rooms the same color, including the ceiling, so the décor flows throughout the space. You're getting closer, Ms. Holt !! Nicely done!
Love it! Especially the streamlined end of traditional, like colonial, early American or Georgian. These seem to lean toward transitional. All of your videos are really informative, even when you discuss the opposite of my decor preferences I learn and stretch my perception of what works. Thank you!
I would really like to understand exactly what transitional is. Does it mean mixing traditional and modern/contemporary design. Also, would like a video about how to blend/balance furniture from your parents into your own design. P.S Really enjoy your videos.
I would love to know how to take a traditional base, and add in antique & modern furniture & art.... eclectic. In other words, blending a lifetime of inherited pieces with modern, traditional, and rustic industrial. I bet that sums up a lot of folks who have it all & love it all. Thank you, love ur videos!!!
Can we call this “Curated Traditional”? I think this style is more of an evolved style that happens with a life well lived and adventure stories to be told. This video touched on that to an extent with the suggestion of pairing items beyond table lamps, say busts on a fireplace . But how to make your home convey a design of traditional order including collections of a lifetime is vexing me. I want to move my home from boho to grown up.
Grand Millennialism both spectrums of it: high end and the moderately priced side. I am so glad that you became a UA-cam presenter. You have supplied us with more concrete, obtainable resources, as well as, defining what our particular inclination is called. Thank you!
Sorry to leave so many comments but I would also LOVE to see a video on how to design your home for beauty and safety when you have very young children. I don’t want to end up with one of those crazy cluttered chaotic homes just because I have a baby! 😅
Denise!! You're too sweet! 🥰 So glad I could pass on a few good tips! 👍🏻 Thank you for your kind words, and I hope your 2021 is off to a fantastic start! 😘💖
I second the black and white idea. I’d also like a little deeper detail about art nouveau and deco. Thanks for being the first thing I do to start off the weekend on Fridays, right before the “Great British Baking Show’!
THOSE TWO ROOMS with the green walls, white moldings, and pink palette...OH.MY.GD. LOOOOOOVE. Couldn't live in it (hubby...lol), but I sure would love to visit frequently for tea, and wallow in those pillows! These two rooms are delicious! Thank you for yet another wondeful lesson!
This is beautiful. I had a hard time pinning my style and this series is helping. The only thing that turns me off about this style is how much dusting all the decorations would require. Oof.

Agreed! I just built a hole and am clearly doing transitional but Scandinavian and incorporating black and white! Great ideas

If your home is open-plan - just paint all the rooms the same color, including the ceiling, so the décor flows throughout the space. You're getting closer, Ms. Holt !! Nicely done!
Kay!!! Giving me all the comfy feels with this comment!!! 🥰🧡 Thank you so much for the support and being part of this AMAZING community!!!
Yes, I like the series, I want to see California Coastal, please.
Yes yes! Coastal/nautical/beach
Want to hear you talk about Mid-Century Modern. Love your channel so much!
Love it! Especially the streamlined end of traditional, like colonial, early American or Georgian. These seem to lean toward transitional. All of your videos are really informative, even when you discuss the opposite of my decor preferences I learn and stretch my perception of what works. Thank you!
Yay! So glad you enjoy the videos!!😍😍
I would really like to understand exactly what transitional is. Does it mean mixing traditional and modern/contemporary design. Also, would like a video about how to blend/balance furniture from your parents into your own design.
P.S
Really enjoy your videos.
Rt!! Please I would also love a video about it
I would love to see coastal chic!
I would love to see more industrial style, love you energy and style
I love your spunk and wit! Thanks for this informational video, Lisa ❤
Agreed. Help us LISA. DECO-rate
Oof.
Keep on educating us, Miss Lisa! So fun!
I won't stop creating videos Harry!!! I got you guys with ALL things design!!! 🤩
Love the breakdown series! I vote for .... Bohemian, modern:contemporary.
Love how you are breaking this down. I would love to see contemporary.
English cottage, or English country. Relaxed, informal.
