I know you meant Kickass...but the only thing I could think at the time of the slip-up was. "Hi, I am Mark Millar and this is Jackass!" *Cue theme song*
If this happened 4000 years ago, Neal would've existed in the cultural zeitgeist as an elder god. Full stop. Tales would be told of the man who turned 1200 ducats into 12,000.
Back when I was 19. My boss. Owner of several comic shops in Austin took me to Big Apple con. While there he hands me a pile of Tom Lyle Robin original art pages. Talking... whole issues of art. My boss says “take these to Tom Lyle and have him sign all these pages.”Tom’s eyes about pop out of his head. Asks me how I had all these pages. I just said. “ my dad bought em for me” he says “you must have one rich dad” 😆😂🤣🤣🤣
Design fees are all over the board. It's really hit or miss. It relies on the client, the artist, the artist's level of depression, the price of tea in China, the average rainfall of the amazon basin, the rate of tread wear on car tires in in the northeast....
Technically, that's an 1100% increase. 1000 would be 0% increase. 1500 a 50% increase. 2000 = 100% increase. 3000 a 200% increase. Etc... It's 1200% of the price. But an 1100% increase over the original (100%) price.
So it's finally official. I just got emails for the cancelation of my preorders for New Warriors 1,2 and 3. Along with the amazing Mary Jane 7, 8 and 9.
Met Neil several times and am blessed with a copy of Batman #200 personalized and signed for me. Stand up guy who fought for the creators of Superman to get created by credits on the 1st Superman movie (1978) and for them to get a pension.
From the perspective of a creator, designer, anything is up for negotiation, but the rule of thumb is to charge based on the client, I would demand a hell of a lot more from DC/Marvel than some dude struggling to get his dream off the ground.
The best redesign of Robin's costume was drawn by Walt Simonson in "The Last Batman Story", in Batman 300 in 1978, with a grown up Dick Grayson in long pants. You've seen it & slight variants of it dozens of times now, including in Kingdom Come.
There were three Robin Miniseries. The first one where he trained. 2nd one was "The Joker's Wild" that bad the most number of different covers with the Holograms in it (which were also sold in a polybag issue group that had a hologram card in it, and the deluxe slipcase edition that had EVERY cover and the cards.) 3rd one was "Cry of the Huntress" that had two different covers per issue. A regular cover and a "motion" cover in a polybag. Fun times!
It's one of the most iconic Robin costumes of all time, a lot of times they flashback to Dick Grayson or Jason Todd wearing some version of Tim's costume I think it's cause the short shorts are one of the decisions DC doesnt like to dwell too much upon haha
I'm not sure where to start. You are all over the place. I do think Steve Skroce and the Battle Chaser guy dropped comics for design work. I love the Robin costume. It didn't age well. But the color scheme... yes. Red, yellow and green. That works. That's solid. George Perez is a great artist. But his design for Nightwing or Jericho... not feeling that. Color matters. I like Vic Stone and Beast Boy, but visually they are boring. It's a robot guy and a green boy. Something I like is the original X-men uniforms. They look weird and different. Almost like a cult or something. The FF had a similar vibe. This is a group. You get it automatically. I talk a lot about Green Arrow in the Chuck Dixon days, but Connor and his father did wear the same suit, which wasn't especially super hero ish. It was more practical. But it worked. It's a ground level guy. Batman, I love how Jim Aparo drew him. That color scheme just hits me. Making his costume all black is boring although it makes more sense. I miss the capsule belt, even though the Miller pouch version made more sense. It's Batman. It doesn't have to make sense.
I remember tons of merch my older brother got based on the '89 Batman film - A poster, trading cards, a hotwheels car, and some candy which came out of a little plastic Batman bust, just to name a few.
That story kind of makes me think of No Country For Old Men m.ua-cam.com/video/riyC8AJNQZs/v-deo.html This is the best Robin. Looking at those designs, and how big the R logo is, made me think of the Thrillkillers Robin...which is also a great Robin redesign. Almost surprised they didn’t have him do Batman too, because that new Robin costume instantly makes that blue Batman look old.
I’m scooping up so much stuff in the market right now at a discount. It’s all safe boomer stocks and defense contractors but as long as he doesn’t tank it completely and imma be ok. But , damn it’s like he’s trying though.
Lol . And sleepy Joe still misses with a blunder bust🤣🤣🤣. But would be good to see Jawbreakers, ironsights on the big screen . Could the our boi Zac be the next Todd McFarlane 👍👍👍👍
I'd been having my Superpowers Joker beat my toybiz "jason todd" to death a with a lego crowbar untill his karate chop arm fell off for a couple years...Beating a dead robin stops being fun after a couple years. Then the sky light up, the signal (aka my batman flashlight) was answered. This time, the shadows didn't go away, they hugged the bright colors even closer then ever before. In 1992, Kenner gave us new generation a Robin we could make our own. Thank you one again Neil Adams.
OK so recently i commissioned a design of a sword for an fantasy RPG game im making and it was a cheap 25$. However the sword proved to be so complicated that it was bumped up to 50$. But man is it worth it!
Random question: do we know if Todd Mcfarlane is doing a new Sam and Twitch comic as part of his Spawn Universe? Props to Adams for getting his worth! He’s a legend! Artists always have to fight to get their due, just like the Inage guys and Adam’s did! And does anyone know if Neal does his own comics? He would get my money for a crowd project!
Thinks have indeed changed, Zack. Now these days, if you want to get a raise, you just accuse your company or boss of bigotry and throw them to the Twitter-mob.
So an artists was asking you money for his desings... how dares?!? "that never happens in comics before!" ... well, the way crowdfunding is exploding never happened before, things may change a little in the future.
*talking about the economy but ignoring that the orange man was bad. C'mon Zack you're gonna go to social credit debtor jail if you keep this up. Unrelated: Very specific negotiation instance: Marvel: That's a nice Venom you got there Todd, sure would be a shame if something were to happen to it..
It's funny how you mention that everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die while also coming up with excuses for why your projects aren't making as much money as they used to. It's one thing if you don't want to do livestreams anymore, but this is just embarrassing.
Gotta give credit where its due, it’s easily the best robin costume.
yeah this is the Robin of my youth. I chose to dress as Robin for Halloween in 1993, instead of Batman.
I know you meant Kickass...but the only thing I could think at the time of the slip-up was.

Sounds kinda cool
Bronze Age comic legend Neal Adams...
Neal missed his calling as an FBI hostage negotiator.
Or as a Weapon dealer

And at the opposite end of the spectrum, the designer for the costumes in the birds of prey movie should have to give back whatever they were paid.
I could design better costumes than those schmucks, and I ain’t even a competent artist
@@eastlynburkholder3559 they did a bad job

Marvel rely on Alex Ross atm for redesigns
Chad move from Neil Adams, who didn't even have to punch anyone out or call anyone a demon! :D

Neal Adams dark, gritty art doesn't compare to; Nubia Real one!😁😁😁
Neal Adams is a beast
That’s a pretty sick looking costume. I’m not going to lie.
Very badass

"Everybody want go heaven. Nobody want dead." - Screwface.
Deep words
Wait someone used logic to get ahead in the comic industry and didn’t use emotional blackmail?
Sounds crazy

Cool, tough kinda Funny the Last Batman story not Being actually the Last one
Id like a jawbreakers art book
Zachary said jackass but meant kickass
Just go Stan Lee and say draw a Jawbreaker and hope they don't go drawing candy

That design fee was almost like payback for Neal since he probably got a lot less than he was worth early on.
I remember tons of merch my older brother got based on the '89 Batman film - A poster, trading cards, a hotwheels car, and some candy which came out of a little plastic Batman bust, just to name a few.
This is a great rundown for other industries. We need to negotiate more. The worst thing they'll say is no.
