WOW! This tune evokes past years and times I share with only dear friends of yore. It draws tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. Passing around the Sony Walkman headphones to share a new track with teenage friends. We we so restless then, songs like these seemed to ground us and hold us together. Funny how time passes, this song still binds us and holds us together.
Strange Advance never received the recognition it deserved. They put out some of the best music in the Eighties, in my opinion. This song is perfection. Love it.
These guys should do a big concert with a huge orchestra like many bands from the 80’s have done. . It would be absolutely phenomenal. I mean look how good they sound in a small venue. Blows my mind they can still sound the same 40 years ago.
Wonderful shows in Mississauga Ont... saw both the full electronic set in 2023... AND the acoustic set in 2022... what a TREAT! Also saw them in 1986 at the Ontario Place Forum. They were the sound of my University years. What a talent, gorgeously emotional songs. Knocked off a bucket list item that I definitely want to recreate next time they're in Ontario !
This is an awesome compilation, I am honored and glad I could contribute to this video with some of my video footage. Thank you Ross Friesen for contacting me. Cheers from Waterloo, On.
Seeing this live tonight, was a wish come true...something I have been wanting to see since I was a wee lad back in '83 playing the album on my turntable while building lego... My mother adored SA so much in the early days, and was an early fan and supporter. The World's Away album got played at least once a week, in my house for as long as I could remember.... (Don't get me started on when We Run came out.....and many years later it became one of the first basslines i taught myself) World's Away was also played at my grandmas funeral and my mothers memorial. It is also one of my dirges as well. A true masterpiece written by one of the most underrated and influential (at least to me) bands from the 80's - right up there with Tears for Fears and Talk Talk. Yes I said that. Fight me. ;-)
Love and miss the era. Strange Advance-Worlds Away, Red Rider(Neruda) are two of my all time favorite albums. Both albums always took me far away from my reality. Got through the greatest decade thanks first to God, and then there was you guys...
This song haunted me for two decades... all I had was the melody and title lyric, and before the internet all I had was maybe record store catalogs and searching through all the bins just in case it was a title on the cover... and then finally UA-cam arrived and at last I could hear the whole song again from start to finish. AMAZING SONG that encapsulates an era yet still connects powerfully today.
Thank you sooooooo much for this compilation! Drew it was amazing to have you guys together again! The lights, the stage, the strings, the keyboards, And Sean you were awesome! Thank you for coming to Belleville On! I am so grateful!
Saw these guys at the Spectrum in Montreal I think in 1986 or so and they are still great. Brings back great memories of a fantastic Canadian band. Come back to Montreal guys! We are waiting for you.
The first time I heard this song I was just pulling up in the parking lot of Uncle Sam's in the falls. I was so blown away by it. After it was over I sat there like in a daze. Beautiful beautiful piece. The electronic drum was new at the time. Well done...I still listen to this at least once or twice a month.
Just heard this song for the first time ever in the credits of a bad horror movie that I just watched. Wow guys! Just fantastic. Takes me back the greatest era ~ Love Love Love this. Thank you Glad I found this. This song needs to be as big as Running up that Hill by Kate Bush.
Recorded this old school lofi from the radio in 1983, there was a local (small town) dj who played this song, never heard this in the big city radio markets, so I got it while the getting was good. Regrettably, I stopped the recording before the dj cut in to say the band and song name. Over the decades, I forgot, but treasured my "off the air " mixtape, didn't manage to reconnect the dots and find the band name until something like two decades, and several different www searches, later.
Pure class. Loved these guys back in the 80s. Still love them today.
I've said it for 40 years. The opening bars of this song should play in the cosmic background the first time man breaks the lightspeed barrier...

You can't ever know what this song means to me and my soul

I may be wrong, but I think I told Drew that this track plays as good today as it did forty years ago. I stand by that.

About as close as I will ever get to see Strange Advance live ( Thank You )
Awesome sound guys! Still sound just as good today - as back in the 80's! :)
Got to enjoy their epic show at the Massey Theatre - Oct 2023. Thanks for letting me relive the grand finale!
This was the song I played after arriving in Kagoshima Japan as a 24 year old English teacher from the UK. Couldn’t have picked a better tune.

Such a great show!
Love the tune...but the video idea was brilliant, and it all stitched together really well for a great show. Nicely done guys...Tequila Monday Project
Thanks, it was a lot of work, but worth it in the end.
Oh my god, the memories and the great times!!!
Dieses Lied war immer der Schlußakkord in meiner Kaiserslauterer Stammdiskotheke "IN".
Eine schöne Zeit, ein schönes Lied.
WOW!
I loved it in the 80s and I love it now

My last LP. I still love!!
Love it!
Sorry I missed you at The Sound of Music last night. My neighbourhood is too dangerous at night for me to travel alone.
Please your central Canada, okay namely Saskatchewan!

We need a live album stat! I'll mix it as well ;-)
Like the song but the lead singer doesn't have it any longer
He’s not the original lead. Sean Dillon was amazing live. He was just a babe when Strange Advance was at their height. I doubt he’s 50
Dude it's 40 yrs later. I like it.
