  • Dr Barker and I talk about a few of the pitfalls that are common in those trying to heal from TMS, and then we discuss how to introduce flexibility in the journey of healing that meets your personal needs in order to heal.
I loved this conversation - Since Dr. Barker is both a TMS recoverer AND a psychologist, even the way he tell his healing story is bound to help you in your journey.
    Here is his bio:
Dr. Justin Barker is a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles that specializes in the treatment of TMS as well as anxiety and OCD. Dr. Barker became passionate about TMS after healing from four years of chronic back pain using a TMS approach. In addition to providing individual psychotherapy, Dr. Barker has collaborated with Dr. David Schechter and is the co-author of The MindBody Workbook Volume Two as well as the co-creator of the MindBody Healing Journey Video Course with Dr. Schechter. Dr. Barker also co-leads a TMS Healing Group with Dr. Schechter which provides a group format to learn about and heal from TMS.

I loved this interview! So many great nuggets of wisdom! "Pain was the wake up call." "If only goal is getting rid of pain, then that is only 1 indicator of success". Those of us in this healing journey are "acting in courage".

I’m just a month into learning about this and I found this channel I think just a week ago I’ve watched a lot of videos this one is a great one I live in Southern California Orange County but it’s a long drive to LA for someone in chronic pain traffic is unbearable it would be a 4 Hour Two hours each way just because of traffic. He’s great

One of the best interview I’ve heard! I especially appreciate both of you validating that this journey can be long, slow, frustrating and arduous. It seems to me that many chronic pain coaches avoid those words perhaps from thinking that it will trigger us. It has the opposite effect on me. I take a deep breath and I feel seen and heard. It’s not that I want to stay in the frustration, but denying that it’s there just makes it last longer. You asked great questions Jen and I love Dr. Barker‘s approach. ❤❤ Peggy

Thank you so much interview. It addresses so many different aspects of that I’ve been struggling with.
I'm trying my best, maybe too hard???
I’m sure getting overwhelmed. It’s not part of healing.😂😂😂
Thank you for highlighting all these things and for your contributions to everybody struggling with Chronic Pain.
One question, how do I answer questions like what I want in life, how I want to operate in life, and what are my dreams, while limited by my current pain? Do I imagine these things without the pain and answer the questions or answer the questions in my current state?

There is probably nuance to your question that I will miss over this medium but one approach is to think big goals (without symptoms) and then work your way there with smaller “dreams” that lead you in that direction.

Was looking for info on either the first workbook he mentioned, or the most recent one he co-authored.

I cant help but put attention to the pain with every step I take since the pain is in one on my foot. Its so frustrating and I try so hard not to let it shrink my world but sometimes I want to curl up and cry.

Yeah. I totally get that. It’s not about ignoring it, but trying not to buy into the fearful thoughts and engaging in other things that get your mind feeling a tad bit safer. It’s definitely a growth process, takes endurance.

Do you by any chance have a master list of recommended books/trainings/resources that we can refer to and prayerfully look through?
