Tornado didn't like the competition . . .
Which is why there's no touchdowns in Washington, D.C. When it comes to winded vortexes of suck, they know where they're beat.
Installing windmills in Tornado Alley. What could go wrong?
Smarts...😂
It’s ok. They’ll use our tax dollars to keep putting them back up.
No shit
@@blackened872 First they have to hide the broken ones in a forest some where.
Bergey Wind Power is based in Norman OK. They make and test turbines there. They think it's a great place to install WT's.
However the storms are getting stronger and more numerous. They will affect all building codes, bridges, high rise buildings. pretty much anything that will be in the path of a storm.
Including wind turbines.
BTW, they don't mill anything. You can call them generators or turbines, but not mills.
thats ironic…WIND-mill taken down by WIND!!!
Sow the wind reap the whirlwind.
Shoulda consulted the Dutch
Go stand in a tornado and tell me theres only wind there...
@exhaustus7437 Let's face it, they are destroyed by strong winds. Whether it is a tornado or a hurricane, we just prey people aren't killed by the debris!
Tornado is different than wind. Let me guess... You love fossil fuels.
For those who don't know (probably most people) stay out of the smoke from these. I feel so bad for those down wind. The material is so extremely toxic that there are only like one or two places in the country that know how to recycle these safely. Thesw either just go lay in a yard somewhere, maybe stacked up, but they usually bury them so people won't realize these aren't really much better for the environment then anything else. I pray those who did inhale this don't have any negative health problems down the road, even WAY down the road, from this. They have enough to deal with.
The generators are the same as any generator or motor. Just turned by the wind instead of NG or diesel. You want to stay out of the smoke of ANY burning motor. Or any thing else burning for that matter.

I dare you to find millions of birds killed by wind turbines. It's not happening, birds fly through and around everything else......they're smarter than you seem to think.
@@lindabergman3127 less birds killed than oil spills
@@lynno.7641 Wrong - o. They kill raptors and bats most often. Across the country, yes, millions. The operator/owners were claiming very low casualties based upon their required surveys under and near the turbines. They found very few. Then biologists began requiring that they survey using sniffing dogs. One consulting firm performing these surveys deployed trained Border Collies. The death tolls of raptors has skyrocketed as it has been found that most of the dead birds had been fed upon by scavengers in between surveys. They are coming up with more accurate totals now and the impacts upon local populations of raptors is high and of increasing concern.

@solarwind, the comment is addressed to wind farm equipment which provides supplemental energy. We are far from green here in the U.S. and we can survive without wind energy. Concerning the fatalities and losses. We feel for them. By the way, have you ever been a volunteer for a disaster relief team? That's when compassion becomes active and functional. Talking to the victims and crying with them for the loss of things that are irreplaceable.
Ok. Does that mean we can start building coal power plants again? 🤣🤣🤣
@@Rocketman88002 There are over 100 turbines at that site. Not farm equipment. We are far from running on renewables but that's where we're headed. If you want to help future generations from experiencing more and more extreme weather events, vote for people who understand climate science.
Lessening the hardship on future generations is a better use of your time than holding someones hand after SHTF day, or sending thoughts and prayers.
That billowing smoke sure looks healthy! Almost like an electric bus burning. Yay green !!
But the power generated right before it collapsed must have been HUGE!!!
Unfortunately once a turbine exceeds its intended max operating speeds it actually produces less power the closer to failure it gets.
So they probably barely generated anything usable before failing
The brakes were on to prevent damage. The tornado was just so strong that it forced the blades to turn anyway, which heated up the brakes till they caught fire. Then the tornado proceeded to collapse the whole thing
Once the wind reaches a certain speed, they stop generating to keep from ruining the components. So on very windy days, even though they are spinning, they are not producing electricity.
They went into braking mode, but tornado obviously overloaded it both mechanically and structurally. Tha means they took sustained winds in excess of 220mph and 450mph respectively. 😮
@@christopherleubner6633 do you know the failure, wind speed for these turbin/tower systems? If so, I’d be interested in knowing the brand and model so I can look up the specifications. It seem like all three Failed the same way, looking at the towers anyway.
Still close to 100,000 people without power in Houston after tornadoes destroyed many large high voltage transmission towers. We don't have any electric power that stands up to direct hits from tornadoes.
Someone with critical thinking skills! Who the hell let you into the conversation??
Buried cables don't get blown down.
It's ok, they're sustainable🙄
Just because a tornado destroys a building doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stop building them? I mean I don’t see anyone stopping building neighborhoods in tornado prone areas

It’s literally a trigger for anybody who’s ever worked in the industry, when they hear people say windmills instead of wind, turbines… I was thinking the same thing 😂 I just usually don’t correct people. Most of the public could care less :-)
I admittedly don’t know anything about wind turbines but how does one catch on fire? Is it an electrical fire from shorting out?
yes and they have lots of oil for the gears etc.
@@DISOPtvguess they won’t have to do the scheduled oil change on those for a while.
No, it's from all the bullshit the Democrats stuffed in the base to make it look cool.
I'm guessing they short out when damaged and get back-fed electricity from other windmills or the grid. Of course this causes an arc hot enough to ignite any flammable stuff inside, wire sheathing, plastics, lubricants, etc.
i work as a service tech, the gearbox in these has alone gas 1200 litres of oil, mix that with 400 amp power and the hundres litres of oil for mech. hydrolines and its a recipe for fire,
Well, how environmentally friendly.
How much CO2 we save with this big bag of wind?
Who is paying for the cleanup and spread of debris? How many windmills were impacted?

🤔 what could possibly be causing all that black smoke from a green renewable energy source? Maybe all that wonderful green fossil fuel oil it needs to lub all those internal parts?
That's going to take way longer to fix over just setting another pole and pulling a new power line wire.
Used to go snow sledding there when I was a kid in the 60s I had a mud flap off of a semi. best damn snow sled ever until you hit a frozen cow pie. that was my grandpa's farm Harvey Davidson that I use to snow sled on🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 south of Prescott.
Birds are killed by the span of the blades oh well time did tell😮
Reminds me of the tornado in Leapwood and Adamsville, Tennessee. It broke the large metal power line poles like small twiggs! Pretty fascinating!
So .. one hail storm can destroy acres of a solar "farm" & one tornado can destroy multiple turbines. Is this stuff insured or do we all have to pay for it with higher electric bills?
It was too windy.
The air polution that follows ... 😢
That sure helps the environment, doesn’t it?!

Just turn the property into a landfill. That's a green dream.
So.... one of the solutions to green energy is to put windmill farms in tornado alley. What would be the odds that too much wind would take out wind turbines?
Have you noticed that tornado alley is getting bigger every year? The solution is to burn less fossil fuels, emit, less greenhouse, gases.
An understanding of climate science and structural engineering will get us through this. Stupidity and ignorance are not very helpful here. But, they are abundant!

I always wondered what would happen if a tornado hit one of those windmills, now I know.
Thousands of birds saved.
For the amount of $$$ these cost, why would you put them in Tornado Alley?
Uhh, cuz this is where the wind blows?
It’s the area with frequent or steady winds, and it’s a rural area to put them. Do some research!
Because rich people don't want them off Martha's vineyard. Look it up. Kennedy family had a huge fit about a wind farm being planned for out in the ocean in front of their home. Would ruin their view. That was over a decade ago... but it happened. Turns out the rich aren't interested on green energy if it negatively impacts them. Just rural people.
@@FanMan19000 Oh the standard response, do some research, I'll just call you Greta. Why would you reply, then delete an run if your argument was legit? Truth hurts. Better to see the truth, than be lied to for YEARS!!!!
Solar panels are subject to hailstorm damage on an industrial scale, now wind turbines are also vulnerable. What sort of backup plan would there be when there are no more legacy power stations/generators left to charge our EVs with?

You do realize any number of natural disasters can easily cripple any number of other power generation facilities, right?

This was a monster tornado, it’s no surprise it took a few turbines down. I for one advocate for more wind power, it powers over 40% of my states power(Kansas).
Is that black smoke good for the environment?
What was eerie was seeing these (?) getting hit (separate video). The blades were barely turning, actually - perhaps because their back was to the inflow (i.e., they were facing the tornado). Not sure if that's why, but these machines seemed to be having an "Oh snap." moment - then snapped.
They have brakes that are applied when the wind speed is too high, to prevent damage to the blades and the gearbox. Tornado wind is strong enough to overcome the brakes and turn the blades anyway.
