+Gideon Okun It did not escape for long, the fishes short term memory caused its doom as it forgot what it had survived only to be recaptured moments later.
This is really cool. I noticed how his hunting tactic wasn't to necessary spear the fish, but to hook his claws into their gills. That takes precision.
+Weirdanimalboy The mantis scopes out the fish, if it believes it can penetrate the scales then it will stab but usually the eye or gill is the primary snag point.
@@MantismanTMSpearing mantis seem to be less aggressive to humans. I can stick my hand near one and nothing happens, even picked him up to put him back in his tank a couple times, but the same definitely cannot be said for clubbing ones. Put your hand anywhere near one of them and they almost always will hit you. At least that's my experience. I assume this is because if they chose to stab, that could actually be very dangerous for them to do and possibly even harm them, whereas clubbing won't necessarily "stick" or get stuck in per say.

IMO, this shrimp is the ultimate predator. It can hide in its hole all day, doesn't have to reveal itself to feed, and by the time prey realize there's an animal there, it's too late. Not to mention this thing is lightning quick... I think I want one 🤔

I knew right away that a few of them looked sick. A couple of those fish are pretty expensive so I figured they were sick. People getting upset at nature it's ridiculous. Now if someone is throwing cats to an alligator that would be sick. Thanks for the video.

@aHumanBeing- Most of the "silver" colored fish are wild caught and all of the colored fish are or were sick, however the Stomatopods have a very unique and very amazing digestive system, they can consume lethal poisons not just sick animals...such as the blue ringed octopus, which any stomatopod large enough will consume whole and not be afflicted by the lethal poison it possess.
The ocean is one big bucket of NOPE.
Aww but just imagine yourself at night sleeping beside the tank, only to wake up and be staring face to 'face' with one of these big spearers that managed to get out of its tank and crawl up your bed...... after all they are crustaceans and many species are adept out of the water....

Fish store owners need to be careful when housing Mantis Shrimp, the smasher type. I ordered one via a local aquarium chain a while back. Now, this store has an interconnected filtration system, meaning every tank technically has a connection via the filtration system. Well, the day I was supposed to pick up my shrimp they discovered it was no longer in the tank. Somehow it had found a way to get into the filter and vanished. Well, I had to go back a few days later after an exhaustive search revealed nothing save the fact that their fish inventory began to vanish and the sounds of "clack clack clack" could be heard now and then. They ordered me a new one, and wisely had it set up in a separate unit.
What happened after that? Did they catch it? It's local so I'm guessing you might have heard
not Sauer Last time I was in there they said it was still missing according to the owner, and it is still stealing inventory.

MannyFresh1x It was small, but no idea how big it is now. As far as I know it has been targeting hermit crabs and other small things it drags away. I have not been to the store in a few weeks, so i do not have an update.
