Man, these mics makes you feel like you're sitting in the same room with the drummer. So natural!
You're really going for the best drum sound on UA-cam aren't you?
I guess you could say I'm slightly obsessed with sound haha
Those mics sound exactly how they look. Perfect. Your touch and cymbals were making love to those mics man. Lol great playing. Subscribed as soon as you started playing.
Me too! 😉
Definitely one of the best reviews of the EW mics that I've seen. Well done!
man, just $29.9-- oh, nevermind 😂
$30 can get you A LOT nowadays
That's right where my mind went...that spit second of WOW !!!!
great vid man!! love seeing your name pop up in my notifications haha
memejay love hearing him get to play around too
Finally a good video about this mics... killing sound and explanation! thanks
All sounds great, with the exception of maybe the kick... I have yet to hear any demo of these mics where the kick has a satisfying attack. The SR20LS' seems to soften the attack to my ears.
agreed....I think I would use all of these mics except keep my ol' Beta 52A. The rest have incredible clarity.
Same. Just keep using my SM91.
Fantastic review!
Compared to your Audix DP7 kit, which do you like better? These or the Audix mics? I'm curious to know your thoughts, thanks!
I have audix and earthworks mics. Earthworks are much better. That’s just my opinion. More open and naturally sounding. Not saying Audix are bad, I just like Earthworks.
Hey Austin, thanks a lot for this video. Not many examples of SDC mics recordings for snares and toms on UA-cam.
I really love the sound of your snare drum. It strikes me every time I watch your videos. It's really the sound I'd like to get close to with mine. Is there any info you could share (tuning, heads, etc...) ?
I'm just using a Coated Ambassador on top, Ambassador snare side on bottom... I tune pretty damn tight. Bottom head as tight as possible without the drum sounding choked and weird... top head I just bring up and up until the resonance of the drum goes away and the rimshots have a nice tight pop to them.. one small piece of gel at the top and that's it :)
Thanks a lot! I'll give it a try.
Does the DM20 reject bleed well?
Superb!
Those Toms sound delicious!!
My Earthworks SV33 went dead and I wanted to repair it. IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN, hardened on the inside! Support wrote to me that I should toss it(!) and get a new one with full warranty. 😂 NIGHTMARE - expensive mics that YOU JUST CAN'T REPAIR. I would never believe it, if it didn't happen.
what is that keyboard on the left with the trackpad
Excellent, thanks Austin. What configuration did you use for the overheads...spaced pair?
Yep!
Clarity is right! Do you feel the tom mics are durable enough to withstand a stick hit?
Yea they’re designed to be able to take a hit.
They're pretty epic... But got anything in the affordable amateur price range?
I did a review on the Audix DP7 kit a while back if you want to check that out. Not exactly budget mics but a pretty good deal for the price.
gotta get a snare side mic
I think Carter Mclean is using these same mics.
yup!
You had to send the mics back? So basically you gave them free advertising and a dedicated video and they didn't let you keep the mics? Earthworks already charges a fair bit for their mics but being stingy to a content creator like that is a bit scummy honestly. I think I'll go with Sontronics' drum mic pack which is less than half the price for just as good quality... Don't know if I ever want to buy an Earthworks mic now...
I'm not gonna be the 666 like.
the kick sounds super flat on my MacBook speakers. everything else sounds beautiful
terrible sounding cymbals lol
Just wanted to say thank you for the well made and thorough review for these mic's. It's refreshing to find a drummer on youtube that actually knows how to tune and hit the drum kit in order to show how a microphone sounds. This video gave me a great idea on what to expect from these mic's and I really appreciate putting the raw audio for the review. Keep up the great content.
5:08 is when drums get hit
Amazing sound even after UA-cam compression. A clear case of you get what you pay for.
Many thanks for this review!
Best drum kit overheads I’ve ever heard. Excellent attack.
Thanks for the drum tutorial.
Speechless........
that raw snare sounds really nice in overheads :)
That's such a fine snare. Love it!
Man I'm seriously thinking about buying this microphone kit; my only issue is that I'm afraid the signal might be too hot. I'm using a Focusrite 8PreX, which has no pad option, do you think I might have a problema here?
I was thinking the same thing, I have the 8preX also
@@Rhythmicmofo actually someone answered my question on another vídeo, apparently we have no problem
So good. Picked one up for snare and have been trying to decide on a complete set. Thanks!
I love the sound of ur snare! It's INCREDIBLE! May i know the size and head set up?
Fantastic! you're playing is great too...
Well. They sound like $3000
Wow! Christian Bale on the drums. Nice!
That lowest floor tom is sounding RIGHT!!
the mics are great and all but damn that snare sounds phenomenal
i was in another tab when he put his phone in front of the mic and i thought he was doing a whip it
Came for the info, am staying for your fucking sick drummiing skills
I just got earthworks drum mic kit I noticed the dm20 are real hot I'm using audient 880 and 800 running through audient ID44 THANK YOU FOF YOUR VIDEOS THEIR GREAT MAN!
Been peeping the web doing A/B of these compared to Audix stuff and I think it's important to note that a very similar if not almost identical "more natural/less eq'd" sound can be achieved with the Audix Micro D condenser clip ons. At least on toms/snare from what I've found. I love the EWs though!! Was def copping DM 20s until I researched the Micros. Ima need Audix to redesign those clips soon. The EW mounts killing em....they work but they don't have that baller status vibe. My .00000000000000000001 cent.
I think for Rock Metal or Pop they don't cut enough. For every funkyboy or Jazzer they work Great! But the price😑
yeah nice playing too ,one more proof the drumming is not about how hard you can hit
Those sounds!!!!!! Great review!
Thanks Justin!
just the sound...!!
How do you tuning your drums?
so natural and open
Would you consider doing a review of a midrange- budget mic pack? Either way, love your videos!
I did a review of the Audix DP7 a while back if you want to check that out.
What kind of hi hats are those? They sound incredible
It's my special formula... Pure Alloy on the bottom, Jazz Thin on the top
I'll have to try that out at some point
Cheers for the reply :)
Send the them back!? wtf earthworks!
one thing I want to point out with the Earthworks. That "clarity" is just extra high end, from being a micro condenser, nothing "clear" about it. You can get that same sound from Audix micro Ds and Shure beta 91s. If you want clarity, you're going to have to have a live audience listening with their own ears. Mics color the sound, and that's nature, that's why we eq the signal, to either enhance the color, or counteract the color. But yeah, sonic transparency is just as much a myth as soundproofing.
Great review! Would you recommend these ever for live applications?
I don't see why not! They have other bundles that are designed specifically for live but the DK7 is suitable for both live and studio recording.
Good to know! Thanks buddy!
Sorry mate, but on your left hand your pointer finger is way too far to the right, it should be curled right with your thumb
