When it comes to comparison Sri Lankan and Indian railways I think it's obvious India has superior railways. Because in Sri Lanka most of public transpositions happen on roads, and Sri Lanka has one of highest paved roads density. We don't need 200kmph trains because Sri Lanka is just 400kms long. But the government recently started a monorail project to reduce traffic in colombo. BTW when we talking about train rides, Sri Lanka has one of most beautiful scenic train rides in the world. I have traveled all over India by train.Recently I traveled on Sri Lanka railways, whats my take, the Sri Lankan trains were spotlessly clean including the toilets and the stations are also very well kept. India, the majority of the rolling stock is old and has a warn out look. The carriages on Indian trains are generally dirty some even have rats running around as has been well documented. The toilets are smelly and desperately in need of a proper cleaning. There is no comparison .Sri Lankan trains are clean and comfortable to travel in. The majority of Indian trains are not fast and are dirty so the journey becomes uncomfortable just traveling in all that grime.

Hi. We Sri Lankans will have 3 electric tracks for colombo and Suburbs in near future (Light Metro).Traffick incidences in Colombo will be minimized by these 3 tracks. For other normal trains we do not have single electrified line. I haven't been to India. But we have some decent Air conditioned trains from Colombo to Jaffna.All power locomotives.

For example , Norway(434 billion USD in 2018), singapore(364 billion USD) (64581 usd gdp per capita) has low GDP compared to india but has highest gdp per capita. And that is why Those countries are developed and wealthier than India. And it is common sense to say sri lanka (4102 USD Gdp per capita- 2018) is more developed than india (2009 GDP per capita -2018).And average sri lankan lives better life than average indian.

Hi. We Sri Lankans will have 3 electric tracks for colombo and Suburbs in near future (Light Metro).Traffick incidences in Colombo will be minimized by these 3 tracks. For other normal trains we do not have single electrified line. I haven't been to India. But we have some decent Air conditioned trains from Colombo to Jaffna.All power locomotives.
