And sorry darling, and presenters for entertainment are _always_ partially hired for their looks. This is true in gaming and otherwise, true for women and men. There's a reason the phrase "voice for TV, face for radio" exists. This holds especially true for tailoring your presenters to your target audience. If you have a visual medium (so, not a podcast/radio show), especially one about a shared hobby, it's a good idea to have your presenters be a mix of "self-inserts" and "nice to look at." G4 did that previously. G4TV didn't do it now, which one can get away with. Until you have someone like... that sexist, sheltered fury there.

I'll never get how from all the female hosts available in the industry they chose the one that caused a ton of problems for Riot Games with her men hating behavior. She was a very controversial difficult to deal figure at LEC as well.

My dad and I used to watch Attack of the Show! and X-Play together every week when I was a teenager. I absolutely refuse to believe that anyone who was involved with producing those shows would be unaware just how much they were targeted specifically at horny gamers and "bro" culture. Picking up a woman who acts like Froskurinn did to be a host for the show was a horrible idea, one of the reasons people unironically liked Olivia Munn so much was because she played into the sex appeal aspect of the show while also managing to be actually entertaining and funny. Next they'll relaunch Girls Gone Wild as a documentary series about female empowerment in the workforce and be mad when people don't like it.

Saw the blunders before they even happened. She was despised in the league scene for the way she acted and on top of it just being a terrible commentator. The teams she "coached" she was barely even a part of. Two of the teams she joined she was only a part of for a few months, one wasn't even competing yet and the other she was only an assistant on an already successful team that eventually lost its roster to other teams. The third one completely disbanded. League was very obviously a career move for her and nothing else. She made every event she was a part of worse, whether because she didn't know wtf she was talking about or due to her own antics. She can't take criticism which made things even worse. She was bad at her job and only kept it because she was an eternal victim. She had many occasions where she threatened to quit because of the criticism she received for her bad casting. On top of everything she is basically an admitted sexist and is known for taking every opportunity she can to exclude men from the things she does. She famously sided with Daniel Z Klein after he was outed for his sexism and racism and attacked Kelsey Moser when she told her that it was a step in the wrong direction if men are excluded. This isn't even getting into how she abused her power to get people banned on league and social media platforms then gloated about it afterwards She is all around just a terrible person

Frosk has turned me off to G4 content even before this rant. Her combative behavior wants to make it a sex or gender issue when the problem is specifically her. This latest rant is one of many outbursts she has had. For a medium that is all about communicating an idea, whether it be by documentary or creatively, she has one of the worst communication skills and I occasionally stutter my words.
Yes, the weirdos always join an industry once its already established and popular. Then say something like i dont care about anything that came before, ill shit on the characters for fun or just to antagonise the people financing their careers and loudly say its about their agenda, politics or personal belief (which can be done right or if it has merit but it rarely does) or we get terrible self insert, sub fan-fiction level tier writing. That’s not true-if you been on the internet. There are plenty of trolls especially in gaming. The whole gaming community has definitely been toxic and I I’ve seen it from it’s begins until now. I love games but you notice that it’s more hardcore conservative viewpoint dominating online games and even online people I’ve met and consider online friends having a more conservative view point. Personal politics isn’t the problems-it’s that the community does generate more toxicity when placed together and I think we should start changing that. There will always be trolls but we can make gaming more enjoyable and less toxic.

Lecturing your audience just generally never goes well. People are there to feel good and be entertained, not be put down and told off. Failure to understand this concept is a fundamental root why alot of progressively driven shows fail, something built on the premise of "Re-educating the bad" wont ever be entertaining except to those who already feel that way.
And it's also why all those programs designed to "teach men/boys not to rape" are absolutely disgusting and sexist - it's blaming all men for a crime only a few commit, it neglects the _women_ who rape, it doesn't make actual rapists stop, and it promotes the harmful stereotype that men are inherently lustful criminals. EXACTLY. There is/was a show on Netflix called, "Dear White People." First time I saw it while flicking through shows I audibly said, "that's going to fail." My progressive cousin standing in the room, asked me why, and we had a pretty good discussion on it. I don't think I convinced her, convo ended up going in circles, but still I think it was illuminating for both sides. Basically I said, "Nobody's going to click on a show just to be criticized and lectured, for being 'wrong' and 'part of the problem'." Her: "How do you know that's what it's about?" Me: "Look at the thumbnail. This young black woman looks like she's sitting in a radio broadcast studio, I'm guessing just getting ready to tell me everything that's wrong with me, and all the other 'white people' like me." Her: "You can't know for sure unless you watch." Me: "It's called, 'Dear White People' for godsakes. Already sounds pretty racist. And I don't like that kind of content." Her: "How is it racist?" Me: "What if I made a show, but flipped the script? What if I made a show called, 'Dear Black People', does that sound racist to you?" Her: "Yes." Me: "But 'Dear White People' isn't?" Her: "No, because black people are oppressed!" Me: "And I don't support that, at all. In fact, show me the sheet that says, 'stop oppressing black people' and I'll sign it right now. But I'm not doing any of the oppressing. And I don't feel like being lectured on something I'm not doing wrong. Nobody does." Her: "So you're saying [young black woman from thumbnail] she should just shut up because nobody wants to hear it?" Me: "No, I'm saying that style of argument is terrible. But the self-righteousness I felt emanating from her at that moment, it was real. I got the sense there was NO attempt to analyze what I said, to take it into account how it affects her own ideals, or if there was even any room for changing her mind, nothing. I'm not perfect, but I know at least I'm always ATTEMPTING to be open-minded to the other side. It felt like the quote from Fight Club, "...why do you go?" I would just like to remind everyone that Frost was fired from the EU desk for league of legends for her racist comments against her co hosts on twitter. I think that is important since she HATES men, and especially what she perceives as white men. So her whole position is one from the fact that she hates men, and will use any excuse or opportunity to speak HATE into the world against men in any form or fashion. what saddens me is people are accused of racism every day falsely while Frost who is an actual racist and sexist gets promoted to host G4TV. Everything seems backwards in 2022.

I used to watch G4 when I was a kid, and loved the gaming content it had. I always wondered why it never made the transition to UA-cam, given its content was perfect for the gaming sphere back in 2012. Now I see why, and I'm disgusted that it went the same route that MTV did. I still never understood why they can't come to the realization that people generally enjoy having appealing people on screen for long periods of time. Especially if they're actually interested in the content.
@@Cordovan In this sense it sort of works. The whole of G4 is a cohesive group, while all of the "sexist gamers out there" are distributed randomly and aren't connected to each other.
I think "cognitive dissonance" is the perfect term to describe this relaunch, and indeed so many of the reboots that we have gotten in recent times. I remember seeing the original G4 about 15 years ago. While it didn't really appeal to me at the time, looking back on it, it seemed like a really entertaining channel that lots of guys probably had a good time watching. When you kick off the revival of an inactive, once-popular network like G4 by chastising your viewers for expecting the same sort of content they got and enjoyed in the past, you've as good as killed it dead. I'm pretty sure rants on sexism were not a part of the original G4's programming.

Also another thing of interest is Froskurinn saying that "it's free". Is it really? G4 costs about 34¢/month on Philo (73 channels at $25/month), is that really "free"? G4's not accessible online barring UA-cam and Twitch, and G4's master feed isn't uplinked on satellite in any manner. It's cablecast for rock-bottom prices. Heck, Unbeatable Banzuke was placed on Pluto TV for free on-demand just recently.
We've been through this before with Sarkeesian & Co., and hearing it again is just a bore at this point. Most of us loved G4 back in the day when it concentrated on game reviews and humorous skits. We were hoping for that again. The fact of the matter is that the gaming community has always been very inclusive, and most of us would love to see women take an interest in it, and respect those who contribute in a professional manner. But being henpecked yet again over some imaginary -ism is not going to go over well. She's been given an opportunity not many people (of whatever gender) get, and only a talentless and senseless ingrate would use it to berate her audience. She's right; we can just change the channel to avoid her finger-wagging, and we will. Though not without a bit of sadness that she was able to demolish the revival of a beloved network we were looking forward to seeing again.

I wasn't aware of the G4TV revival till Frosk decided to openly attack gamers for no reason. Needless to say, it wasn't the best way to bring awareness to the revival. A better way would have been to bring back Olivia Munnor Chris Gore. But instead they picked woke screeching feminists. And Adam Sessler is a shell of his former self. G4tv died again before the revival could even take off.

IIRC Adam Sessler was even fired from his original G4 gig back in the days and was irrelevant for years until G4 was re-launched. The guy is basically not only a shell of his former self he's also obviously still snorting a half mile every day given his insane Twatter rants. The one thing this video left out which was the main cause of their failure was how the company was being ran. They were running it as if they were still in their prime. They had around or a little over 200 employees for a UA-cam channel and expected to pay all those paychecks and the other bills with ad revenue and UA-cam stream donations. Comcast got tired of fronting all the bills and paychecks when they didn't make enough money and saw how the company would never be self reliant so they pulled the plug.

As someone who grew up with G4 in the early 2000s and as a male in the united states, as attractive as i found olivia and morgan back then (and kristin holt), I was actually more interested in what they had to say as oppposed to how they looked. So whenever women talk about toxic male gamers, I just tell them to stop dealing with toxic people and stop generalizing an entire group just cause your not smart enough to talk to others.

I just want to add that shortly before UA-cam ever existed, my older sister and I were watching G4 when a 100% speedrun of Super Mario 64 aired. We were missing some stars, and that speedrun on TV showed us the 2nd star we could earn when beating the secret slide a 2nd time within a certain time limit.

It cannot be overstated how vastly superior Olivia Munn is to this 12 year boy claiming to be a grown woman Olivia was not only attractive but she was one of us whereas this weirdo is not.

The thing is, I dont particularly disagree with her about sexism, however she failed to realize that sex appeal isnt the only thing that was drawing ppl to Morgan Webb or Olivia Munn, it was apart of it, I dont remember much about Olivia Munns segments, however I remember being entranced by Morgan's reviews. And in a way, I feel like the sexualization was something that was handled well, even in the context of media by then. It was sexualization, but the segments still had comedic value and had this fun sense of absurdity about them. A part of me believes that if the show was revived with Morgan Webb, even without appealing to their audience, it(or at least XPlay) would be at least semisuccessful

I was a fan of the original G4TV, back when they had original programming, and had merged with TechTV. They took over Tech TV, got rid of almost all the original programming both channels had, replaced it with endless reruns of Cops and Cheaters, and I stopped watching. I didn't even hear about this "revival," until I saw some of the channels on UA-cam that I actually subscribe to (like a certain person who is definitely Upper Echelon,) started talking about this rant, and the results of it. I'm glad I didn't hear about it before this happened, or I might have actually wasted my time watching some of it.
It was so bad when they tore out so much of their original stuff for Cops and Cheaters over and over. I think Xplay and AOTS were the only things that somewhat consistently showed at that point

And sorry darling, and presenters for entertainment are _always_ partially hired for their looks. This is true in gaming and otherwise, true for women and men. There's a reason the phrase "voice for TV, face for radio" exists.
This holds especially true for tailoring your presenters to your target audience. If you have a visual medium (so, not a podcast/radio show), especially one about a shared hobby, it's a good idea to have your presenters be a mix of "self-inserts" and "nice to look at."

And it's the 'Triple OGs' like myself that refuse to 'cut the cable' because it's the best option that we know where to get our shows, or if you really want to go 'Old Guy', 'our stories'. Personally I refuse to get 'nickle and dimed' by all the available streaming services. And the only one I do have, I have because it comes included with one of my T.V. channels (HBO Max if you where wondering).
My dad and I used to watch Attack of the Show! and X-Play together every week when I was a teenager. I absolutely refuse to believe that anyone who was involved with producing those shows would be unaware just how much they were targeted specifically at horny gamers and "bro" culture. Saw the blunders before they even happened. She was despised in the league scene for the way she acted and on top of it just being a terrible commentator. The teams she "coached" she was barely even a part of. Two of the teams she joined she was only a part of for a few months, one wasn't even competing yet and the other she was only an assistant on an already successful team that eventually lost its roster to other teams. The third one completely disbanded. League was very obviously a career move for her and nothing else. She made every event she was a part of worse, whether because she didn't know wtf she was talking about or due to her own antics. She can't take criticism which made things even worse. She was bad at her job and only kept it because she was an eternal victim. She had many occasions where she threatened to quit because of the criticism she received for her bad casting. On top of everything she is basically an admitted sexist and is known for taking every opportunity she can to exclude men from the things she does. She famously sided with Daniel Z Klein after he was outed for his sexism and racism and attacked Kelsey Moser when she told her that it was a step in the wrong direction if men are excluded. This isn't even getting into how she abused her power to get people banned on league and social media platforms then gloated about it afterwards

Frosk has turned me off to G4 content even before this rant. Her combative behavior wants to make it a sex or gender issue when the problem is specifically her. This latest rant is one of many outbursts she has had. For a medium that is all about communicating an idea, whether it be by documentary or creatively, she has one of the worst communication skills and I occasionally stutter my words.

That’s not true-if you been on the internet. There are plenty of trolls especially in gaming. The whole gaming community has definitely been toxic and I I’ve seen it from it’s begins until now. I love games but you notice that it’s more hardcore conservative viewpoint dominating online games and even online people I’ve met and consider online friends having a more conservative view point. Personal politics isn’t the problems-it’s that the community does generate more toxicity when placed together and I think we should start changing that. There will always be trolls but we can make gaming more enjoyable and less toxic.

Lecturing your audience just generally never goes well. People are there to feel good and be entertained, not be put down and told off. Failure to understand this concept is a fundamental root why alot of progressively driven shows fail, something built on the premise of "Re-educating the bad" wont ever be entertaining except to those who already feel that way.

EXACTLY. There is/was a show on Netflix called, "Dear White People." First time I saw it while flicking through shows I audibly said, "that's going to fail." My progressive cousin standing in the room, asked me why, and we had a pretty good discussion on it. I don't think I convinced her, convo ended up going in circles, but still I think it was illuminating for both sides.

I used to watch G4 when I was a kid, and loved the gaming content it had. I always wondered why it never made the transition to UA-cam, given its content was perfect for the gaming sphere back in 2012. Now I see why, and I'm disgusted that it went the same route that MTV did. I think "cognitive dissonance" is the perfect term to describe this relaunch, and indeed so many of the reboots that we have gotten in recent times.
I remember seeing the original G4 about 15 years ago. While it didn't really appeal to me at the time, looking back on it, it seemed like a really entertaining channel that lots of guys probably had a good time watching.
When you kick off the revival of an inactive, once-popular network like G4 by chastising your viewers for expecting the same sort of content they got and enjoyed in the past, you've as good as killed it dead. I'm pretty sure rants on sexism were not a part of the original G4's programming.

We've been through this before with Sarkeesian & Co., and hearing it again is just a bore at this point. Most of us loved G4 back in the day when it concentrated on game reviews and humorous skits. We were hoping for that again. The fact of the matter is that the gaming community has always been very inclusive, and most of us would love to see women take an interest in it, and respect those who contribute in a professional manner. But being henpecked yet again over some imaginary -ism is not going to go over well. She's been given an opportunity not many people (of whatever gender) get, and only a talentless and senseless ingrate would use it to berate her audience. She's right; we can just change the channel to avoid her finger-wagging, and we will. Though not without a bit of sadness that she was able to demolish the revival of a beloved network we were looking forward to seeing again.

The one thing this video left out which was the main cause of their failure was how the company was being ran. They were running it as if they were still in their prime. They had around or a little over 200 employees for a UA-cam channel and expected to pay all those paychecks and the other bills with ad revenue and UA-cam stream donations. Comcast got tired of fronting all the bills and paychecks when they didn't make enough money and saw how the company would never be self reliant so they pulled the plug.

As someone who grew up with G4 in the early 2000s and as a male in the united states, as attractive as i found olivia and morgan back then (and kristin holt), I was actually more interested in what they had to say as oppposed to how they looked. So whenever women talk about toxic male gamers, I just tell them to stop dealing with toxic people and stop generalizing an entire group just cause your not smart enough to talk to others.

I just want to add that shortly before UA-cam ever existed, my older sister and I were watching G4 when a 100% speedrun of Super Mario 64 aired. We were missing some stars, and that speedrun on TV showed us the 2nd star we could earn when beating the secret slide a 2nd time within a certain time limit.

It cannot be overstated how vastly superior Olivia Munn is to this 12 year boy claiming to be a grown woman Olivia was not only attractive but she was one of us whereas this weirdo is not.
Olivia Munn had the right mixture of sex appeal with a fun and engaging personality that gave off a vibe that she actually loved her job.
She was attractive, but had fun and rolled with the punches and she didn’t even have to be a gamer to be appreciated. She just made the show entertaining to watch. Plus her and Kevin had good chemistry. The people on this new panel are probably too scared to joke around in fear of getting backlash on Twitter. It’ll be fake banter like Ubisoft demonstrating a multiplayer game at E3.
The thing is, I dont particularly disagree with her about sexism, however she failed to realize that sex appeal isnt the only thing that was drawing ppl to Morgan Webb or Olivia Munn, it was apart of it, I dont remember much about Olivia Munns segments, however I remember being entranced by Morgan's reviews. And in a way, I feel like the sexualization was something that was handled well, even in the context of media by then. It was sexualization, but the segments still had comedic value and had this fun sense of absurdity about them. A part of me believes that if the show was revived with Morgan Webb, even without appealing to their audience, it(or at least XPlay) would be at least semisuccessful

It's very often that they'll say that Sony is dead in the water LOL but that is only because they know that Microsoft has deep pockets.

It's good you included the rant because they took it down recently . Another thing that happened too was TheQuartering offered to have her on his channel to explain herself , so she had a chance to redeem herself and she didn't do it . The fans were willing to hear her out and see if they could forgive that BS. So the anger has been building up since then .

I was a fan of the original G4TV, back when they had original programming, and had merged with TechTV. They took over Tech TV, got rid of almost all the original programming both channels had, replaced it with endless reruns of Cops and Cheaters, and I stopped watching. I didn't even hear about this "revival," until I saw some of the channels on UA-cam that I actually subscribe to (like a certain person who is definitely Upper Echelon,) started talking about this rant, and the results of it. I'm glad I didn't hear about it before this happened, or I might have actually wasted my time watching some of it.
It was so bad when they tore out so much of their original stuff for Cops and Cheaters over and over. I think Xplay and AOTS were the only things that somewhat consistently showed at that point
