Good old diode matrix like done to the 148's, much better on the cobra as its got a proper band switch

Yup no issues there , someone clever put in the 145106 tho in place of the 8719

I have a 148gtl-dx with this PLL mod, and it looks equally chaotic, but works. Allegedly it was a standard fix, mostly for CB-to-10 in the early 90's, but there is not much in the way of instructions on the web to do it. Would be cool if someone reverse-engineered it in plain engrish on the web today..

Im sure hidden away in a notebook somewhere is the explanation.

Hello, I have a radio like this but I can't find a diagram of this radio with 5 pins on the PTT, I can only get it with 4 pins, where can I get this diagram.

thanks for a great vid. I have just rescued my 9F DX where it has resided in a drawer for about forty years and I'm trying to tidy it up. I seem to have a problem with the audio. When I turn the volume switch on it is excessively loud and I have a feeling that the Pot may be wired wrong. Looking at the Pot from the rear, the right tag has a black wire which appears to go to ground. centre tag wire is yellow that goes to vol M on the board and left tag is white that goes to vol H. Could you please tell me if this is correct? Also I have to replace the speaker. The one in the radio is 16 Ohm but I can't find one, is an 8ohm ok? Thanks very much. Steeplejack Tom.

Hi, 8 ohm should be ok , as for that wiring mine is black at the top , yellow middle and white bottom , going to the same places you have mentioned.
      Hope that helps.

thank you very much pot seems to be wired ok. Any idea why the audio is so loud? I just turn the radio on and hardly have to rotate the knob for the audio to be very loud. A small turn makes the sound so loud to be unbearable. I am wondering if there is an rv on the board that adjusts the sound level that might not be working given that the radio hasn't been used for forty years! I think if I turned the knob half way the volume would be so loud that it would blow the speaker! I would appreciate any info on this problem. Tom@@MicroChipz

There is no pot to adjust on the board , it could just be a dirty or faulty pot, theres not much inbetween the pot and audio amp, the pot controls the amount going into the amp , it does not control the amp directly , the amp is on full all the time. so if its coming loud it can only be the pot or the ground loose on the pot .

Thank you for your courtesy and help I am indebted to you. I did think that was the case but I was clutching at straws. I have ordered a new pot and will check the ground as you suggest. I am having great difficulty trying to purchase the internal speaker in England. I have seen them advertised in America, but the cost and postage is extremely high. Any help in obtaining
one in England would be very much appreciated from your good self or your many radio friends. Tom @@MicroChipz

Wow I’ve been working on radio gear since the early 80s and when you took the covers off I nearly threw up. What an abortion that PLL wiring and rats nest of diodes and resistors.
    I generally don’t leave comments.

I suppose for the day it was OK , putting in a 145106 instead of the 8719 and making a diode matrix must have took some work. but yes defiantly a nest there .
