Yeah they do a nice job. Dying to know what they'll do after 3BP is all sent out. Thanks for watching 👀!

I really, really like the Broken Binding books. So many I would love to own, but the shipping to the US makes it unobtainable for me. Cheers to all who on their editions, they really are something.

Yeah they're very nice. How much is the shipping to US?

Beautiful looking edition. I remember reading somewhere that the German translation contained text not in the original English one. I wonder what the text was and if later editions like this have added it back. I enjoyed the series, but I went in cold without hearing any hype. It seems to me that some of the "hate" against the book is from longer term readers of SF pushing back against people newer to the genre that were blown away by the concepts in the book. Many, maybe all, of those concepts have been featured in other SF before.

Yeah, and some anti-foreign sentiment too, I would imagine. Cheers Eric, thanks for watching 👀! Must dash, I need to go fondle my new book....

I finished Childhood's End yesterday, I think you said in a video that it is very dull. I liked the story, but I can totally see why you would call it dull. Clarke really doesn't seem to like any action in his novels.

You need to have read it back in the 80's or so. Before the ideas in City and the Stars got used by every new science fiction author. I loved it, read it several times...back then. It would be a real slog for me to read it now.😳🙄
May I recommend the Deep Range, A Fall of Moondust, Islands in the Sky, Tales from the White Hart, and Fountains of Paradise? These books are much more about characterization, rather than Big Ideas. 😉🛸🚀

@@User_Un_Friendly Thanks. I already read Fountains (which was actually pretty good) and Moondust (which was a bit lacklustre but fun). I collect SF Masterworks but also try to read them!

Yeah, didn't work for me unfortunately. Shame as I have fond memories of reading ACC back in the day.

I really should see the tv series and then read the books...but after losing interest in the Expanse after 4 seasons or so, and finding For All Mankind "meh", and Foundation is an unwatchable mess, I'm leery.
Of course, it could be a blanket dislike of modern tv series, and movies... Considering my excitement at finally buying the black and white version of Earth Versus Flying Saucers, eh. 🙄😝
    That's really a lovely book, Jon. 🎉🤩. Enjoy! 👍🫡
