Yes my daughter went to all events with us from 3 months on. She stopped as a teen but got back into it as a young adult. She met her husband there, a 3rd generation member! Trying to keep kids garbed can be a challenge. Note that polar fleece can be made into a warm hood that feels soft and has the look of felt, advice from the mother of an "everything itches!" Kid.
I love that Tornado’s reveal, it looks so good on them! Very cozy and warm, but not too hot. Also, I’m extremely sensitive to fabrics and the feel of what’s against my skin (don’t even joke about tags on clothing 😂) so I appreciate that you took their needs into account so much when making this!
I actually did end up making a wool tunic too because the forecast was on the thirties, but I lined it in the leftover flannel to the armpits and up to the elbows so there’s no itch on sensitive skin, if they wear it over something else.
@@OpusElenae Sounds like the perfect compromise!
Tornado is totally cute in their new tunic! Hopefully it serves them well!! I love the color combo.
Oh my goodness! Your Tornado is looking so cute! You did a good job on the tunic and should last them at least a year.
As usual, Tornado is just the coolest kid…and they look amazing in their new tunic! You’re such a great and thoughtful caregiver. 💜
hugs for the Tornado, and one for you too! love Tornado's side shave, tell them it looks awesome!
They said thank you!
I am going to add this video to my handout on Kids' garb as a resource. I love the fact that you included Tornado and have taken their needs into account. It's great seeing more people involving their children.
Yes, I've been doing a Children's garb class for over 10 years and I need to update some of the sources and ideas to try to make things easier for some of the newer parents to the SCA and sewing.
Oh that would be fantastic!
Aw Tornado looks like they really love it. That burgundy and great combo is so nice!
I think it’s so fun to get kids involved in stuff like this. I lived in a small village growing up and it had a lot of parties and events where all the kids were involved and participated or ran around, as well as the adults. I feel like it gave me and my friends a sense of community and made us more responsible human beings in the end. Able to relate to adults even during the terrible teen years 😂
Tornado has gotten so big! They look wonderful in this video, and its so easy to see they are happy with the results. Also, this video reminded me I need to start working on my tunic. 😅 I'm going to get at least one cold weather outfit done this winter (maybe.)
Right? I can’t believe they’re so big already
Tornado looks so pleased. Very best reaction ever.
They look wonderful in the tunic. I can completely empathize with the preference for flannel over wool due to sensory stuff. Thanks for another amazing video.
Aren’t they just the CUTEST?
Tornado is awesome - loving the hair! I hope y’all have many fun costumed adventures together!
We just dyed the underside red and green stripes for the season
tornado is adorable their new tunic! hope they stay warm and cozy in it!
I need a Tornado Tunic. They look amazing in it!
What a model at the end, I could never👏🏼
SUCH a ham, that kiddo
This dress looks so comfortable and cosy! And Tornado looks gorgeous in it.
My husband and I don't have children whom we could take to events with us. But we do try to get our niece and nephews involved as much as possible. I love to dress them up and explain everything to them at events.
I love that!
Love the pop of color in Tornado's hair.
We need to re-dye it!
Realy great to finally meet Tornado (i haven't been subscribed for all that long) they look really happy with the result, and I'm guessing, pleased to be a part of your adventures!
They pop up here and there, but it’s been a while since a video focused on something for/by them!
*sob* thank you for letting your kid be themself
I never want them to be anything but.
@Vee Dragon Sending you a hug. Sounds like you might have had a rough childhood (know I did!)
Very handsome combination of colors. I really like them together; I think my mom had a sweater with that color combination when I was very little.
As always such neat stitching!
I gave them the option between the wine color and a more brick red and they picked this, and I think it was the right choice
Aww. The Tornado is cute and the tunic is so cool! :D
Me: *about to comment that the red trim could have been added before sewing the sleeves together*
Opus: "hand sewing is relaxing for me"
Me: *loves hand sewing* "all right you got me there"
Lol my name is Courtney; opus means work. But yeah, when I’m working with something like flannel that is already a step from accuracy, I’d rather not add more modern details like topstitching. And I just like hand finishing
@@OpusElenae lol sorry, it felt too personal to call you by your name 😅
And I totally understand hand finishing, I even hand finish things that really don't need to be. I love your work 😁
That's a great piece of garb that they can certainly grow in to. Tornado seems a delightfully cheeky child. And, from what I can observe, they seem to have much of your personality which, I'm sure, can be a bit of a double edged sword some days.
They are very much my kiddo lol
Fantastic outfit. That is a happy Tornado - they look absolutely smashing. Glad to hear the camping was so much fun for everyone involved...
_Small Suggestion_ - Have you thought of including the whole 'hashtag' thing as part of your video titling? The stuff in blue that gives geographic or topic points...? You could do one for your Featherweight... entice the cult of happy humans who like watching other humans play with that brilliant piece of machinery? I know they're big in the quilting community. And I think the model is also popular for small-scale tailors? Congrats on the increasing numbers. That's really fantastic for you. Well done.

I hadn’t. I don’t want to disclose precise geographical location, and I have no idea if people who are into featherweight quilting would be interested in historical clothing just because it was sewn on one. I will have to investigate further
@@OpusElenae I forgot which corner of the continent you're sitting on. And then I remembered. Yeah. Belay that suggestion...
I feel your pain on keeping children clothed. I spent 2 months making sure we had enough for Pennsic one year and the growth spurt hit the day we arrived. By day 3 nothing fit with almost 2 weeks to go. Thank goodness for garb merchants.
Also I love your patterning layout techniques. I think I picked up at least three new tricks.
I made them a tunic (the green one in the video) during the pandemic that never got worn. **facepalm**
Congratulations!
Such a great cosy tunic!
Tornado looks great in it!
Drinking warm water
Now that is a happy Tornado! Excellent modeling skills and I really like how it should fit at least a year (my monsters outgrew things way to fast as do the grandmonsters.
Tunic turned out great. Tornado’s haircut and color are fab!
A very comfy looking tunic, and great modelling skills ;)
It’s so soft!
Love the colours, and Tornado's hair is awesome!
Cute! Love the poses at the end 😄 They've got some good attitude going, and I'm here for it. So great to see kids getting involved. And also...yay for a break from the heat!!!!!
They’re such a ham!
I’m addicted to your videos
There are worse things! 🥰
Darjeeling with honey and cream.
Tornado shares hairstyle preferences with my eldest imp. I'm going to see if they might want me to make them a tunic like this.
When trimming turnings that lay one atop the other cut the facing turning 1/8in shorter than garment turns. This stops the edge of turnings showing on the surface of the garment after pressing. Clip around the curve of neck on the wider turning first then clip the narrower turning half way between the clips on the wider turning. This will give you a smoother curve than clipping both turnings at the same place allowing a corner between two straight lines the develope😊😊
So awesome to see this
Thank you! I try to make sure they have clothes they like too, and not just things that are easy.
Tornado got them sassy britches, and I am Here For It™.
Also, I didn't realize you were near Austin! I'm up in Hutto, so hello neighbor !
Such a small world!
@@OpusElenae Right?!
I’m in S. ATX… howdy!
Fab tunic. love the colour combo. I bet Tornado is lovely and warm in that.
I need to find some proper cotton flannel for cosy clothing. Cannot seem to find it over here.
Glad Tornado has something toasty! We're going to Faire of Champions in January, so we're sewing our cold weather stuff now
Came out great Courtney! And it looks like Tornado loves it (which is totally the best). Thank you for sharing with us!
They look great, and so cozy!
Gasp!!! I just got a Singer Featherweight! I haven’t even used it yet! ❤❤❤
I love the tunic! Best dressed tornado ever!
I barely use my modern machine any more tbh.
How do you make sure a neck facing doesn’t flap up? I’m making a project that I’m considering using one for, but I’m concerned about that.
depending on how the neckfacing is made it could be stitched down around the edge, either visibly or with a slipstitch (if the facing has a bottom edge that's folded in).
It can’t; it’s slip-stitched down to the body.
Amazing *****
Appearance-wise, does flannel make a good substitute for wool? I'm also in Ansteorra, and it's almost always too hot for wool where I am. Also, I'm not a big fan of the price of wool per yard... 😅
It’s… decent? Not all wool is that fuzzy, but it could probably pass at 15 feet.
