      Kallus is what they tried to do with hux before ruining it and making hux the worst villain in all of star wars

    • @rebelxoswald
      @rebelxoswald 2 роки тому +33

      @@icebergwalrus7775 the thing is this type of arc doesn't work for the type of character hux is like kallus. hux was a fanatic and 100% devoted to the first order. while kallus had conflict and questioning of it and had someone who brought him another side. hux's attempt of side switching arc in tros was just lazy writing because they didn't want to make the main big bad non-force related in the final movie and they didn't know what to do with his character. which they could've done the big bag with hux and finally introduced thrawn into the live action that way as well.

    I saw a video saying the reason Thrawn seems so dangerous is because the writers essentially turned Sherlock Holmes into a villian. We're now getting a flipped perspective on an incredibly competent character we're used to rooting for now being a threat.

    I'm really digging Kallus development in this episode and for this Season alone considering that following "The Honorable Ones" in Season 2, Kallus begins to have 2nd thoughts regarding the Empire's actions especially when he was shocked after he witnessed Morad Sumar being killed during the explosion while testing one of the speeders for Thrawn at 4:43-4:44.

    Thrawn's effectiveness is presented pretty well IMO, though I get what Calvin was saying. I would think it's tricky to write a character like that without making it seem like he knows as much as the writer.

      One of the advantages in a lot of anime is that we have the character's internal monologue to explain their reasoning but that is also a disadvantage because that monologue ruins the pacing. Gotta find a balance and Thrawn is it.

    • @kwanarchive
      @kwanarchive 2 роки тому +7

      To be fair though, this episode is the first time that Thrawn actually wanted to kill the rebeles instead of allowing them to escape. So he does fail, even when he's one step ahead.

    The Kallus storyline is SOOOOOOO much better than the General Hux "I'm the spy." I mean, I still predicted that Kallus was Folcrum, but his story was just so well done that I didn't mind. The entire time I was watching Rise of Skywalker, I was thinking "Rebels did this so much better."

      They're two very different storylines though. One is about a man opening his eyes to the evil of his employers, seeing the kind of life he could have had, and turning around. The other is about a man who hates his boss but is to scared to go up against him himself, not turning around at all, just continuing down the same direction. I don't think they're exactly comparable.

    The TIE Fighter game on PC introduced the TIE Defender. I bought the game back in '95 for my first PC.

    • @kereminde
      @kereminde 2 роки тому +1

      I started with the game before that: Simply titled "X-Wing". TIE Fighter expanded on the game engine quite a bit, but I think it peaked with 'X-Wing vs TIE Fighter' - even with it being focused very much on multiplayer games, it was still very good. (Especially the 'Balance of Power' expansion.)
      The TIE Defender was, and is, the high watermark for how dangerous the Empire could be if they actually spent... money and research time on their starfighter production. However, their philosophy overall is "throw enough people at a problem and make it go away". The Rebels, on the other hand, wanted quality fighters which could take a pounding and act independently. What the T/D did was... well, "starfighter supremacy". It could outmaneuver, outrun, and outgun every Rebel fighter from that time period - at the expense of being considerably more ... expensive. Shields and hyperdrive made it much more expensive than your average TIE. But a squad of those? Would murder Rebel ships easily by spamming lasers.
      In the old EU timeline from the games, the fighter design and production models were stolen by a rogue Imperial Admiral to use against the Emperor. Thrawn had an answer of course - make a starfighter which didn't engage the T/D inside the optimal laser range. Thus the "Missile Boat" was born, the most broken thing ever... I mean, literally in the code: "This is the King Hell God Emperor Starfighter of Death".
