@@nerdy.guy_ytexactly that is what I was gonna say, kids in his school brutally bullied him and made fun of him , I know in the hindsight we think that this movie was such a progressive movie, but ar that time not everyone was really acceptable of the movie, and everybody was not as educated and as open minded as people have become over the years.

Now I realized that film making is very hard process. 3 hours of film looks good but the hard work behind that 3 hours is immense! Salute to Amir khan and team for this hard work and made a masterpiece!
Darsheel safary's acting was soo good that even now he is recognized as ishaan.... That's how a legend acts... So much fame... A movie that hasn't lost its importance till now

Fantastic movie and to top it off it was filmed at my boarding school which I attended in the late 70s to mid 80s. I’m not Indian either but have always continued watching Bollywood movies.
