Jacoby “I have faith in Ime Udoka; as a basketball coach, maybe not as a life partner” David you are the gift that keeps on giving. Bills reaction was like Homer holding the vacuum on his face
This is Simmons at his best. Used to be an extension of Bill and his friends after college. Now, it's Simmons and a bunch of middle age Dads staying up late.
Timestamps:
0:17 - Klay Thompson's return to Golden State in the Warriors' win over the Mavericks
21:59 - Hawks upsetting the Celtics while not playing Trey Young, Timberwolves - Trail Blazers
49:01 - 76ers - Knicks , Joel Embiid, a Victor Wembanyama check-in, predictions for when the Cavs will lose their first game
Not all heroes wear capes.
Thank you my goat.
Thanks Champ! 🤙🏽
Billy boy with the classic “how do you do fellow kids?” style.
Jacoby: "It's all schedule-based."
Dubs literally had one of the toughest 3-game road stretches anyone will face all year.
Except that the Celtics didn't have Porzingas or Jaylen and OKC lost Chet two minutes into the game which both they and you conveniently left out.
@@MrOctober44Warriors missed Steph and they still won. Boo hoo, good teams find ways to win, Celtics and Thunder still had a great roster without those guys.
Jacoby has always disliked warriors. They annoy him because he bets against them everytime.
Silly to even make such a claim with the road trip happening this early in the season.
Thisnis the best form of podcasting with Bill. When he has two more funny, knowledgeable guys with him and they can just talk shit for over an hour. I could listen to it for hours.
So much better than cousin Sal who doesn’t really have any original thoughts or opinions
@ronathan7212 He's famous for being someone's cousin, what do you expect?
The peak remains, to me, the RewatchaBulls with Ryen.
I am not familiar with Kirk Goldsberry's work outside these podcasts, but I really love him on these pods, especially with Bill. More Bill and Kirk content, please.
Meh, yes man who agrees with bill on everything. Yes, it is actually okay to disagree with God emperor Bill Simmons, Kirk!
Kirk is the math guy. The analytics guy. He used to write long detailed articles on Grantland and ESPN. The NBA uses him for his brain. And like Bill said, he was with Spurs forever.
Kirk did all those shot charts with the different sized bubbles back in the day. Dude is super smart.
To be fair, Kirk has been agreeable like that with people on ESPN, too. As opposed to some of the Ringer guests who kiss the ring, which says more about Bill than the employees trying to fit in to the culture. Only certain people make it into the good ol boys club. "You and I are not in the big club."
@@TheRealUcanUwill I wouldn't come at Kirk like he kisses the ring. First off Bill is everyone's Boss. I think people forget that TV, sports, etc still are real jobs with bosses and HR departments and everything else. It's just more money and on TV but it's a job and Bill is the boss and owner so act accordingly. Also, Kirk and most the people under Bill go way back with Bill. A lot are from Grantland days. A few are before Grantland and as far back as college. Even the babies on The Ringer been around Bill for awhile.
This an a GREAT crew. Jacoby very common man and Kirk with great analysis. Great Ringer adds!
yeah the lets say what flys around their brains this second crew and the next second they change their mind because it really doesnt matter what they say anyways ^^ totally nonesense crew
Jacoby is an embodiment of a certain type of East Coast Guy.
Miss Jalen & Jacoby so much. Every weekday afternoon it was something to look forward to. Now it's just an assortment of pods here and there, on a mixed cadence, but missing that daily anchor of giving the people what they want. Early on the stretchmark 5 - for some reason Jacoby's guy, not sure what it is, but for some reason. And Jalen was super early on SGA. That show had so many segments and references and call-in.
I scrolled down for this comment!!
Exactly, man I miss J&J so much, they held me down during college when I needed a podcast fix. Plus I would always try to catch it on ESPN, even when they would come on at weird times sometime I would try to record it when I could. I need those two back together.
I’m an original day 1 fan of Jalen and Jacoby it was amazing top tier podcast ahead of its time. It got watered down to be honest once they started doing televised episodes
Jacoby's sports science bit was good lol
Goldsberry pulling a Rob Lowe with the Hat
Where can I get that hat? I just like the NBA.
Might as well just say “Basketball”
I love this group.
Bunch of laughing, snarky old heads.
This was a great discussion about the correlation between injuries + the improved modern athlete
Appreciate you bill my favorite basketball podcast on UA-cam love the humor and how insightful you are . Thanks for these pods they really help my depression and get me through my day thanks again
Its great seeing David with the PodFather on the vid. Bill of you can, get Jalen and David back together again for a show, It was undeniable gold and information. Thanks for the content.
Also worth mentioning as you all are zeitgeist savvy, Jalen just also had the most memeable moment of the year at the Heat game last evening thanks to Spo. All have at least will have seen his face even if you somehow under a rock have no idea who he is.
@@Liam_Chen It was funny on Inside The NBA when they all said "too soon!" when it's 31 years later.
I have no clue how Jacoby could think what the warriors are doing isn't scalable. The warriors outplayed the Celtics, outplayed the thunder, and outplayed the mavericks. Wiggins has been fantastic, Draymond has been the best defender on the planet, Buddy Hield is averaging 18 and getting WIDE OPEN, this is all shit that we've seen these guys do for over a decade.
scheduled based? Lol. The schedule was literally Boston, OKC, Cleveland and Mavs and they went 3-1.
They were referring to the next 10 games and how they'd feel if the Warriors win most of those games.
@@cranekraken24 It still doesn't make sense though, since they got good results vs the best teams in the league just now. Even if the next games area easier, they took care of business now.
Warriors have only lost twice. One of those losses was to an undefeated team on the road two nights after beating the defending champions.
Jacoby's takes don't make sense. He also said they're playing Curry too much, when the guy is averaging career lows in minutes.
Celtics missing top two players
Thunder lost 2nd best player 4min in
Played healthy Cavs got blown out by 40
Beat 5-6 Mavs and a bunch of other trash teams.
Their one chance to play against a really good fully healthy team they got blown out.
Lol. They beat Boston who didn't have Jaylen or Porzingas. They beat OKC ego had Chet for two minutes and no Hartenstein. Which they and you both conveniently left out.
This was a masterpiece of a watch. All-timer Bill pronunciation of Emirates, Kirk sneaking the “it came back Pacers” joke into the IST convo, Jacoby’s “the fucking HAWKS!” and Bill’s “you’re staring at me like the heads of two chickens” all killed me. Unreal chemistry between analysis and fun. Keep this combo coming back please!!
The sports science segment…now I wish it was back.
At 43:20, when Bill starts using the recent US govt election to raise the question, “are we better off now than we were (last season) four years ago”. Jacoby’s quip, “Was that (election) sponsored by Emirates?” Had me rolling on the floor laughing. Great chemistry - great podcast
Don’t forget Looney with 11 offensive rebounds in 15 minutes
Hating on the NBA cup is just so fucking weird to me because it's objectively better basketball. Additionally it's the normal format for soccer, the most popular sport in the world. It's not too complicated for the literally billions of soccer fans.
You 3 need to do more of these together lol Kirk always good for insightful analysis and Jacoby is just downright hilarious.
Excellent combo! Loving the balance of seriousness and comic relief.
you can tell based off Steph’s reaction after his solo run at the end that the Klay return game meant more to him than anyone else. he had to remind everyone that his former team mate wasn’t going to come into his territory and leave with a W regardless of their history
Bring back Jalen & Jacoby!!!!
Give the peeeeooooople, what they waaaaaant….Give us what we NEED!!!!
No!!
Give the people…what they want!!!!

So happy the Athletic feed did not get rid of this show. Always fun and entertaining while providing great info and smart opinions. Thank you so much for the great content guys.
Can we just make this the Bill Simons podcast? So funny! So much knowledge, but the banter is just so much fun!

Jacoby has been the best addition to the Ringer in ever. Good and fun basketball talk and chemistry with everyone.
Jacoby is a warrior hater, nothing new. Warriors were 3 games out the 6th seed last season with Draymond missing 25 games and Wiggins missing in action due to his family issues. And they got better this year for sure.
him and Charles Barkley lol
Great episode. Good chemistry.
Pleasantly surprised with an accurate take on Raptors players. Great panel today, please more Jacoby! Thanks for the content
Dyson is killing it right now!! Let’s gooo
What's Emeriates? - Bill Simmons 😂
Michael Jordan had his most assists in a game versus the Trail Blazers on March 24, 1989, with 17 assists.took me 10 seconds
He's a classic boomer though 😅 I already know he calls you whenever you text him a YES/NO question
The point of the NBA Cup is that its something to win and root for. Majority of fans like it
Great episode, Very insightful on many topics 💯
It's obvious that David Jacoby doesn't watch Warriors games other than last night Vs Dallas.
Buddy Hield has been averaging 20+ points a game this season for the Warriors and he doesn't mention Buddy as the 2nd scorer for the Warriors after Steph Curry. Smh 🤔🤦♂
That sports science bit was hilarious 😂
The old grantland crew slowly coming back together
Bringing back some fond memories of Grantland seeing these 3 on a pod together. Just need to get Jalen and Zach Lowe to the Ringer now
Patiently waiting for the update on the preseason Nuggets takes. KCP playing career worst whilst Christian Braun is an MIP contender. Westbrook being a positive and CLEAR upgrade on Reggie Jackson. Teams ORTG being top 5 in the league but “they don’t shoot enough threes.” Jokic levelling up. Address it please.
Jokic on PEDs 👀🤪
Let's get a month or 2 in 1st to address all of this my guy it's early still
@@terencejones22 If it was early enough to write a team off before a balls been tipped, it’s early enough to talk about their performance after 10 games. Reports of the Nuggets demise were greatly exaggerated. Granted Bill isn’t so much the one I’m talking to here, it’s a lot of his guests that were happy to say KCP would be a massive loss.
You’ve needed Jokic to be a superhuman (even by his standard) and you’re only 12th in net rating (a barely positive 2.68). 3 of you wins are by 1 possession against 2 of the worst teams in basketball.
Don’t be shocked if the record starts to catch up with that net rating…
If you had an ounce of intelligence you’d probably judge the team based off the last few games once some things were figured out. I’m used to the skepticism. Hell, some people still don’t think Jokic is the best player of this generation. Our net rtg was around that number in the championship year. A negative bench (which we’ve had 9/10 years in the Jokic era) will do that. The starters still have a top net rating in the league - 2nd to Boston’s.
This podcast has made me laugh really hard today good job
The Blazers had the exact right random circumstances happen to arrive at their best lineup of Banton, Sharpe, Camara, Grant and Time Lord.
Jacoby and Bill together is gold.
What is Emirates? I guess Bill flies private.😂
Bill summoning his inner Bill Murray in Space Jam with the white hair and backwards cap.
Good to see Jacoby on here. Jalen & Jacoby was one of my fav shows on ESPN. And it's always nice to see somebody disagree with Billy.
Jalen and Jacoby was my favorite podcast. And I listened to the mismatch so it sucked when Kevin left so I was hyped when Jacoby joined the mismatch. Shoutout to Bill for hiring buzz Jacoby.
GIVVEEEE THEEEE PEEEOPPLLEEE WHHAT THEEEY WANNT!
😢
"Gotta give the people what they want"
God I miss Jalen & Jacoby
it really was one of the best shows on ESPN, such a crime smh
The biggest issue with Klay on GS was his movement, or lack of it.. He can't move like he didnt before.. He cant run off screens all day like before (which is why he became a bit of a ball stopper last year)..
It's even worse on defense.. GS is running this blitzing double-teaming defense, but they couldn't with do it with Klay last year.. The fact they offered him $24m/yr was kinda crazy in hindsight.. with that money they were able to get Hield, SloMo, Melton, and Waters (baby splash cousin).. All of which can move (even slomo).. Hield has more off the bounce juice than I realized.. another thing Klay was never good at, but totally not good at it after his injuries (why he played like butt last year)..
Edit: Wiggins' father fell ill suddenly and passed away.. that's why he's been not the same guy we saw in 2022 for hte last couple of seasons.. It wasnt widely known while it was happening.. But i remember him missing MONTHS of time and he wasn't injured.. I thought it was babymama drama, lol.. I bet he wishes it was...
Might be the best pod ‼️👀👀
I think the point of the emirates nba cup is to make the entire nba season interesting and bring playoff basketball to November
Anyone else here after wemby hit 8 3 pointers in a 50 point game 👀
This was great. I love having Jacoby on the Ringer now.
yeah he never fit on that morning NYC show that was on FS1, he was outta place on there.
Wait… the Warriors hot start is schedule based? Have you seen their schedule to date…?
Yup. Easy schedule. They'll fall out of the play in behind Pelicans
@@KwisBwown they played Celtics, Thunder, Cavs, Mavs in first 10 games. You dont know what easy schedule is
@@Nazhukthats what I’m saying 😂😂
They can keep hating whiles we keep getting this Wins
@@KwisBwown Pelicans aint making the play in, have you seen their list of injuries? But i believe the Warriors will still finish in the play in
@@josephrafferty6763 mad glazers - good to see the new fans are blowing in again from Lacrosse when they all became new NBA fans in 2016 🤣
Tre Young to Miami would be fire, no pun intended
THE TRADE IS DAME FOR TRE - sorry for using all caps but that's the one. Can't believe Bill didn't sniff it out. Dame is sour and Tre is one of the best lob throwers alive. Dame is old and works better with transitioning to the young team in Atlanta. Plus Atlanta the city will love Dame.
lol Bill mentioned Dame as being similar to Tre but didn't suggest swapping them. lol.
Atlanta loves neither the Hawks nor any players that play(ed) for the Hawks, with the exception of maybe Dominique Wilkins. This is football country and a big sports market. Dame would find himself in the opposite situation as he was in in small market Portland, where he was a folk hero and the Blazers were the only (sports) show in town. Dame would fade into obscurity in Atlanta on the surely mediocre Hawks behind UGA, the Falcons, Braves, Atlanta United, and possibly motorsports.
Many adult NBA fans here are transplants who bring their rooting interests with them. And the Hawks have had neither notable team success nor a transcendent star in decades, so many young basketball fans who grow up in metro Atlanta probably rather root for other NBA teams and players. It would take a Kobe-level star to get local sports fans to care about the Hawks.
The Emirites Cup needs to be worth something, at least a playoff tie breaker.
Nobody cares if the 1% gets richer
Dallas lost 3 games to Suns,Nugs and Gsw by total of 6 points.
2 of them without 2 best defensive players.
Problems in clutch is smt but nothing to panic about
Dallas not top tier this year even though they team better 😢
@KwisBwown Dallas pre- February,yes.
But Killa Kidd will do his magic and Mavs go on a run,as they did in 2 out of 3 previous years.
@@victorvic4659 Luka an Kyrie very predictable now.

Was hoping for Bill and Jacoby to mention The Challenge Eras at least once on this pod.
Ok ok, yall actually nailed my thoughts on the cavs so youve redeemed and earned a like lol. They do seem way more confident. Theyre also healthy.
People seem to forget that this teams core is still young and either no in their prime or just entering it. Theyre still getting better and physically mature. Combine that with chemistry due to playing together for 3-4 years now and the biggest factor: new coach and a philosophy of attacking offense thats unlocked their major trait in team athleticism and speed that fits their best players(garland, mitchell, mobley, allen, etc.). The fast pace attack fits way more than JBs slow ball, slowest pace in the league. While it was really good for this team netting them top2 defenses every year, it really put a cap on the potential of their best players. Ultimately everyone can see the results have been inarguably more beneficial and raised the potential of this team. Theyve still retained the core fundamentals of defense they had as they've been hovering around the top 5-10 net defense all year(top 2 defense regardless imo).
Glad to see one of the bigger sports channels giving them respect with nuance, as opposed to the overwhelming knee jerk ignorant takes that you can tell they havent been watching 😂 🤙🏽
Great crew!
Bill House Jacoby and Wiles together would be entertainment gold.
FTF chemistry is why it’s #1 in the game. Wildes is the straw that stirs the drink
Is it really. Wildes is great but I’d rather drill a hole in my head than listen to the other guys talk.
Goldberry's "it came back Pacers" was funny and no one noticed. lol
How is it possible The Ringer hasn’t brought back Jalen and Jacoby
Love seeing the Grantland crew.
GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANNNNT
“Do you know who we off 6th Man Tre Young to??…” 🤣 Jacoby
The point is you win a title. Futbol fan here. Yes, it is a lesser title. But still a title. Not so valuable for contenders, but really valuable for everyone else. It will mean more every year. We experienced it in our own futbol/soccer leagues. Eventually, there will be some more rewards too, i guess, like the champion getting home court advantage in the playoffs. They are taking it slow. And it's fine. My point is there IS a point.
It's an achievement sure, but it's not a title. The NBA cup does add a little extra flare to what were meaningless regular season games in November. The players are buying in from an effort standpoint, so it's working.
Net positive overall, but it's not a title.
@Weaponator18 why is it not a title. We call it a title evreywhere else in the world. Not all titles are worth the same. For example Olympics > World Cup. But still both are titles.
@@cuisonteit just doesn’t really feel like a title, the Celtics are the reigning champs not the lakers, I agree with they’re point about no ine remembering the groups, I watched the games and didn’t remember the groups being a thing. It just has less meaning, it’s an achievement but no one really cares about it after the game is over
23:45 Quin Snyder has been wearing those glasses every game for over a year. Maybe make it less obvious you haven't watched a Hawks game in two years if you're going to act like you've been watching Dyson Daniels all season
Yea I caught him wearing those glasses last year too I kinda like them they match the team colors 😂😂
Relax. They both mention about 15-20 seconds after your timestamp that he’s rocked those weird looks “for years”.
24:04
Just a thought: if you don’t know the teams in each Cup group, you could look them up
I love the way the guys tried to continue getting laughs from the Emirates Cup phrase but Bill was no longer laughing about it so it went nowhere. That slight pause where they're waiting to see if it creates a chuckle but the time for it had already passed.😊
I missed Jacoby's silliness so much. I also miss Zach Lowe's voice, both friends of Mr. Simmons here....J and J followed by the Lowe Post was my routine for so long
Jacoby negativity for the Warriors is turning into Nick Wright’s Purdy hate.
My favourite part of this episode was the dude saying Emirates will take you right to Abu Dhabi, sir that is Etihad Airlines, Emirates takes you to Dubai 😂😂
Jacoby giving heavy ‘my kid put a pb&j in the vcr and it’s affecting my mood today’ vibes.
If they make the in season tournament worth a half game in the standings, it could actually have some real impact on the season.
Pause it at 12:37 when Bill starts saying Hood! Sounds like he says hood shit 😂
"Do you know who we offer 6th man Trey Young to..." 😂

My Warriors !!! ⭐️
- I was a major skeptic but Warriors might be legit: nobody is playing more than 30 minutes in this opening run.
- And the NBA cup is horse crap dreamed up by a marketing department (Congrats to BS for calling it "contrived." Good word Bill. Now work on "Irony."). But I surprised myself by being a big fan of play-in games: teams are really gunning down the stretch of the regular season, when normally it is the doldrums except maybe one or two games.
- And put a fork in Embiid. Injuries+head: we'll never see it.
I love Bill for clowning Emirates
Winning the in season tourny should come with money and the choice between. The 15th pick (a pick given even if you dont have your pick and it doesnt replace your pick of you do have it) or an extra contract spot for the roster which doesnt cost agaisnt the cap of the team worth 5 million dollars would be a great benefit. After the winning team selects it the second place team receives the not selected winning
Good to see Jacoby. Now just have to get Jalen.
I said it when I first read the details of the Murray trade to the Pels and I saw he was tossed in ; Dyson Daniels is the most unspoken afterthought of this trade and mark my words, he's going to end up being the biggest piece of this.
Great vid
The point of Emirates cup is to win Emirates cup. The point of NBA play offs is to win Larry O'Brian trophy, same thing. The point of sports is to win trophies... No one is saying every trophy worth the same, every in season cup in any team sport, is a sidejob, but point for teams is to win trophies, preferably as must as possible. I swear Americans are not human sometimes, ''WhAt iS tHe PoInT'', do you guys are even sports fans, sports fans usually want their teams to win trophies, that is the entire point of team sports. What is the point of Boston Celtics existing at all then?
NBA Cup over hyped product.
Cheapens the NBA.
Plus the game soft now straight shooting contest errbody injured cos they vakksed an don't lif weights
Seriously, Bill's kid nihilism is so stupid. You can be nihilistic about anything.
This guy Jacoby knows the bare minimum about basketball
I think the In Season Tournament eastern conference finals should be somewhere like Nashville or Columbus/Cincinnati. In the eastern part of the country. I would like to see the finals move around, but the NBA jerks off to Las Vegas so that won't happen. It'd be cool if they rotated to cities without NBA teams, do it in Vegas, then Seattle, then Kansas City, then Tampa, then St. Louis, then Austin etc,. etc.
This is a great idea
We need more Jacoby!!!
