    Indian probably didn't intend for the FTR to be a cross country touring machine. But when we had the opportunity to take it on Biltwells El Diablo Run down to San Felipe Mexico, we packed our bags and hit the highway. #FTR1200 #ElDiabloRun #IndianFTR

    So you didn’t trailer a street glide to Daytona? Love seeing “real” bikers doing that lol.

    Awesome review! Thanks for the details. You answered a lot of pertinent questions. Have you done any such thing on a Scout?
    My Scout, with a 3.3 gal tank, got me 161.3 miles before it ran out. I had a Rotopax can in my saddlebag and ran it out intentionally. My gas light comes on at about 130, so I have roughly a 30 mile reserve.

    I can't wait to get one. We don't have a dealership here in Alaska. I am thinking of picking one up from the lower 48 and driving back here to the upper 1.

    I’m taking mine Coast to Coast next May and I’m not worried about the luggage, I have a rack on the back and I’m just throwing a duffle bag over it the only concern is the gas , I think I’m going to buy that rototax gas can set up because I know some gas stops are far apart out in the desert but with an extra can I think I’ll be ok , I’m just so excited about this trip just love this bike and it’s such a blast to ride

    Last summer I rode a gsxr from Alabama to Maine. It was the best ride ever. The only complaint I had with riding a streetbike that far was my wrist. After about 5 hours of straight riding my right wrist was SO DAMN sore from holding the throttle constantly. Would love to have had cruise control for that ride.

    I think the first thing you should do on one of those is swap it to a set of TT100's to keep an old school race feel but have a MUCH more streetable ride.

    I'm interested in this bike, but what I've read so far was it had a 3.4 gal tank and got 32 mpg. Maybe with 100% hwy miles, then 40 mpg is doable .... btw, why no rack? Seems it would have been a lot easier for bags, space, etc. Good video!

  • @user-sw2lv3zp6o

    Valuable review. You should have used a tank bra for the Kriega bag. Fuel range is poor. They should have made a 15-litre tank. You can tour on anything.

      Except maybe a TW200. It can't go fast enough. Though I bet it could do the Trans-American Trail from the east coast to the west coast, seeing as how that is 90% off road.

    I have been smoking some Loud Harleys with my FZ-07 Yamaha can you imagine what the FTR-1200 will do to a Harley ..
    I don't like the idea to have to pay 60 cents per gallon for Premium Gas.. They need a dual timing curve or they need to make these Hi Output bikes flex fuel capable .. E-85 has very high octane rating plus cools your intake tract

    • @fvgc454ss
      @fvgc454ss 5 років тому

      After riding one its comparable to a vrod. Very similar power delivery and engine itself is pretty much the same format and power wise. And btw air cooled Harleys arent fukin racebikes. Why people continuously bring it up its beyond pointless. E85 is corrosive, also is inconsistent fuel and absorbs water, eats seals and u need 35% more injector rate to compensate for the rich mixture required to run e85 with optimal afr. And that's coming from some with a turbocharged vrod for a decade. Great cheap fuel for a race/play bike and boosted applications. But there is a reason it isnt used in many daily driven performance vehicles especially bikes. Your mpg goes way down as well with the increase in afr.

    I've done touring on an SV 650, and while I would have liked a little more power, I'm not sure I'd pay this much for twice the power. If there is an FTR 800 or 900 in the works, just take my money Indian.

    • @jpcycles

      This isn't the type of bike that will have highway pegs available for it. Best case is to look for some adjustable rearsets that will allow you to move the pegs farther down.

    dash turns me off.Its like looking at mini ipod instead of nice motorcycle gauge like on Triumph bobber or BMW R9T etc.Looks wise also vanilla sort of Ducati monster copy...Wished Indian really made something original and cool but this is not it.Think BMWR9T how original and cool is that?

    • @jpcycles
      @jpcycles  4 роки тому +2

      It's easy to compare the FTR to the Ducati Monsters because of teh frame design but thats really where the comparisons end. The FTR is MUCH more capable in the dirt than the Duc, it was born from the championship winning FTR750's and it shows. Agree about the dash and there is a analog dash available.
