  • Jen and I set out in early July to do some fly fishing, camping and cooking in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest that neither of us had been to before.
    We explored around a small creek valley and fished for WILD TROUT for a few days and generally had the place to ourselves which was an absolute treat. It was a good chance for both of us to get away for a bit and BREATH or drink in the beauty of the place while recharging our own personal batteries.
    Some of the highlights from the trip beyond the place itself were, the amazing sausages cooked on the fire from Portland Oregon's, Scratch Meats.
    Be sure to check them out here: www.scratchmeats.com
    We devoured some smoked salmon caviar and smoked sockeye from Wildfish Cannery out of Klawock, Alaska. We felt like royalty and didn't feel guilty about it for one second.
    Be sure to check them out here: www.wildfishcannery.com
    The special spotlight beer for the episode was "Empty Bowl" farmhouse ale. This is a collaboration beer between Tacoma, Washington's E9 Brewing Co. and Seattle, Washington's Bizarre Brewing. This is one of the best beers I've had in recent memory. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a bunch more when we got home from the trip.

    This was a lesson. Not in fly fishing for trout but how to lead a life well lived. At least in these condensed moments. I really enjoyed and honestly needed this. Thank you.

    My wife and I frequent The Gifford Pinchot in the early summer and fall (as burn bans and snow levels permit) but we typically are hauling ass up to the high lakes in the area.
    Thanks for reminding me to stop and enjoy all of it!

      Your wife will love ocean camping on the beach in Olympic National Park in Washington State. Most beaches are very remote. You will think you're in paradise. The sea breezes are fresh and clean. The sound of waves is music to the ears. The stars at night are so bright as you lay on your back. It is so quiet. The problem? You have to go back to work the next day. And the parking lots are always full of cars just like Mt Rainier National Park. It's like a thousand cars there. Weekend camping is very popular spring and summer.

      It's so true. For a small creek like this I use a 7'6" 1wt! It's so much fun with these smaller wild fish. Also easier to cast in tight spaces.

      I just want to compliment you on a nice video that does not "Hot Spot" a vulnerable little creek! Very ethical and courteous as the fun is really getting out oneself and discovering these little jewels. Wish more UA-cam content producers and fisherfolk who post would take your lead! Well done.

      @@ryanstewart1521 Thank you! This is always tough. There is a fine line between gatekeeping and hot spotting. At the end of the day, it's really all about exploring for me. Great video. We lived in Washington for thirty years and backpacked into some of the high lakes with one our boys. If you get a chance let me know what fire pan you're using. That looks like a great foldable one and your grate fits perfect. Thanks again and keep them coming.

      @prolificnorthwest  9 місяців тому

      Thank you so much! Yeah Washington really is such a beautiful place. The fire pit is the Fireside Outdoors Pop Up Pit. We love that thing. It’s compact and very versatile. The grates are a modification that I did awhile back. I actually made a video about it. Check it out if ya like. It works well in most situations but your mileage may vary if you go that route. The fire pit company also sells grates that look pretty good. I just tried to use what I had on hand. Thanks for watching!
