The transitions in this video are excellent. The fact that it cut to multiple angles yet still remained in real time is a true reflection of the skill of the editors. Great video.
The exhaust of 425 is so MONSTROUS, that you can't even hear the whistle over it! If Frisco 1522 is the loudest locomotive in the country, then 425 is definitely a close second.
I like the 1522 (1988-2002) as a popular excursion train and the loudest steam engine of its kind. Still, their both the loudest steam engines in the country to this day.

The reverser seems to be further down on the quadrant in this video than what I've been taught to run with. It is a relatively light Pacific and the grades are (from what I remember) steep so that is kind of to be expected. But the diesel helper can alleviate that as well. It could also be that the locomotive has a naturally loud exhaust (i.e. FRISCO 1522) based on the blast nozzle diameter and other factors in the front end. It also sounds like the whistle is a 6 chime and not a 5 chime. Southern 630 has a similar whistle but it's from the Central of Georgia. But to the videographer: this is an amazing video. I have watched this channel's videos for a long time and the quality has always been top-notch. I wish to congratulate you on capturing the drama of modern American steam railroading in a series of captivating videos. I cannot wait to see your next work.
I think I was told it was a 5-chime, but I may be remembering wrong. Glad you enjoyed it. This locomotive is worth a trip to see in person; it never disappoints!
Very amazing... May i put a question? Why in all steam locomotives videos there's always a diesel unit? I saw that in other videos. Can you tell me why? Thank you, this is one of the best video i ever seen about steam engines...
It’s for added braking power, electrical power, and to assist the steam locomotive with pulling, which reduced wear and tear, which is important because maintaining a steam locomotive is a lot more expensive than it used to be.
425 is a light 4-6-2 type, it does not have alot of pulling power for long trains as it was designed for speed and light passenger trains for the GM&N railroad. The locomotive runs currently on the RBM&N railroad which has steep grades, requiring a diesel for assistance on long trips and trains.
Bonita maquina de vapor y ese color azul la hace especial, no entiendo porque no tuvieron ese colorido estas máquinas en lugar del clásico color negro. Y esos coches vagón que bien conservados están. Larga vida a todo esto
I've always noticed the 425's chuffing always sounds a lot louder at speed than the whistle, but this doesn't seem to be as much of the case on other engines. Is their any reason why the 425 would be significantly louder than other engines? Or is it just me?
It doesn't seem to matter who runs the locomotive, like #1522 she's always loud. I think the front end design has a lot to do with it, but I'm not an expert. Not only is the whistle hard to hear a lot of the time, usually the bell, and even the safety valve popping, is drowned out by the exhaust.
Hematoma Falafal Patrol I believe it depends on the angle and distance of where the engine is compared to you too. I was at Steam in the Valley last year and 765 was the same way
From what I’ve been told, they modified the blast pipe arrangement or something in the smokebox which amplified the exhaust upon its second restoration
Hola gracias por compartirestos vídeos de ferrocarrileses toda una belleza lastima que en México estemos un poco atrasados por el mal gobierno y la ignorancia de la ciudadanía por no reclamar estos servicios en trenes de pasajeros

At about 4m,55s of the video, the train is pushing a wall of air out of the tunnel and it starts to effect the leaves on the trees.

Beautiful. Train videos can never be monotonous and boring. Always exciting.
The engine is swaying so much.At times the crew seemed to fall over sideways.Yet going steady reaching destination.

Awww, look at the Diesel offering a helping hand lol.. This is a nice video.
Diesel is for electricity
@@kenwelch3378 no it doesnt supply electricity because they are freight type locomotives!, it is use as dynamic brake support for No. 425

In India, steam loco drivers are not given chair to seat. They are expected to be on their feet throughout the journey.

The steam engine is just for noise and glamour. The actual pushing and pulling is done by the diesel behind it.

Is there a diesel engine in between?
Yeah, their usually used in heritage runs just to power the coaches and add braking power. The steam loco is doing all the pulling work.
What a beautiful train ...
