Also, while it was obvious Bradley was going to come back at some point, I love how they did it. Briggs celebrating, the music is all joyful, Olivier lowers the receiver of the radio in relief, and right at that moment : "Greetings, I'm back." as the music cuts... As you said, he knows how to make an entrance.
I love how Bradley just walks up to the main entrance as if nothing. It shows how confident he is on his skil, plus the morale boost on their demoralized troops.
The craziest part about Bradley is, he can't even regenerate like other Homunculi. Otherwise he wouldn't be aging. So he's literally just built different
Olivier, Izumi, and Ed: *headstrong, out-going, don't take shit from anyone*
Alex, Sig, And Al: *big, intimidating-looking familial companion, who're actually calmer and gentle giants*
Either way, with two unstoppable badass women (Izumi and Olivier) and two men with Greek God physique (Sig and Alex), they're unstoppable
That sorta fits with how Olivier and Izumi are the only 2 characters that Ed is genuinely intimidated by lmao. He recognizes they're the same as him but also a lot stronger and more experienced.
Facts!
6:40 That was my exact reaction the first time I read Fullmetal Alchemist. In any other series, those guys would have been disposable cannon fodder to get steamrolled over, especially since they were wanting to kill Olivier for treason just minutes ago. But in FMA, those nameless soldiers come up with a plan to save two badass main characters and survive the attempt. And note that when Sloth gets free, it's because of the *chain* breaking, not because the soldiers faltered.
Basically, you know a show is epic when even the Redshirts are Badasses.
Something I find fascinating about Hohenheim and Father is that given their same face and very different personalities. Feels like a reflection of humanity. A species who can do so much good are also capable of so much evil

Haha yeah it's not about Bradley surviving, it's about the epic entrance! His words stopped the background music! There wasn't really a better moment for him to arrive than when everyone is celebrating their supposed victory.
Honenheim's comment about Father's Envy really rankled his Pride, igniting his Wrath and furthering his Gluttony for what he's been so Greedily Lusting for. Something something Sloth.
I know it was a random joke, but that got me thinking about something: did Father truly purge all his sins from himself after all? There's a few that you could definitely argue he's been guilty of throughout the series: sloth, by doing nothing but delegating the entire time; envy, by making himself a little family of homunculi, greed and pride go without saying. It's possible that the homunculi he created were indeed incarnations of his sin, but did not actually take all of it.

I love how the homunculi die in ways that contrast their sins. Lust was killed by a lustful man (with no interest in her), Gluttony was eaten, Envy was confronted with his insecurities and inferiority, Sloth worked himself nonstop.

I don't peg Mustang as lustful though, his womaniser aspects are all just a front to throw people off.

Lust is a strong, powerful desire, whether it's a noun or verb: you lust for things you deeply crave. Someone greedy lusts for money. Someone gluttonous lusts for food. The most basic meaning of lust is an unquenchable desire for sex, but people lust for all sorts of things.
He's lustful to change the country he's lustful for fixing wrong doings of the country and he was lustful in killing envy

@@henryreed4697 lust actually does just mean strong desire, it's just most often inferred to be sexual. Bloodlust is one example where the original meaning is maintained. Bloodlust isn't some sexual sadistic desire, it's just a strong desire to kill

In the manga, Alex and Sig already knew each other at this point - they'd met around the first Greed incident. They already formed the muscle bro friendship at that point, similar to how it happens here, and so this time was more of a glorious reunion of brothers in biceps.
I was actually reading the monthly as it released but its been years and that does make sense but dk not really remember I haven't even opened my boxed set which I heard got a discount probably because of the new color edition

Bradley's entrances are so epic that they would only compete with Roy's entrances.
It's not just the way it appears, but everything it means.
It is assumed that Mustang and Briggs' forces had made the people of central believe that the Fhurer had been betrayed by his own command.
When Bradley appears, the situation takes a 180° turn, because the lie is discovered and now it indicates that the real enemies are Briggs' soldiers, who are the ones who have taken the headquerter.
That victory celebration is magnificently interrupted, and Olivia is one of the first to realize what it means.
They have lost everything (or almost everything).
I say this on every video, you have to watch the bloopers when you are done with the show. It's actual bloppers and jokes made during recording by the voice actors and it's really funny.
Luke, When you're done watching this series, you should check out the FMAB bloopers. Also, If you're enjoying the english voice cast for this series and ever watch Fairy Tail they have several of the same voice actors. The voice actor for Ling in FMAB is the same as the main character in Fairy Tail "Natsu" in the english dub.
I keep hearing that I should check out the bloopers! I'll have to make sure I do 💯

I really like that it was the Armstrongs and Curtis' that defeated sloth together, considering how complimentary they are. Both a family pair of man and woman, but one pair is husband and wife while the other is brother and sister. Also each pair has an alchemist and someone who just uses brute force to fight, but it's different who that is on either side. It's just a fun coincidence that I really like
Also, for another "in the manga" fun fact: by this point in the story Alex Armstrong and Sig Crutis. Bradley tried to meet Izumi but Sig wouldn't let him, to which Alex flexed his muscles at Sig. Sig responded in kind, which led to the same handshake in this episode. It happened way earlier in the manga, but I'm very glad they kept it in eventually

Oh, we're here; Bradley's return. Which means we're coming up to a certain fight that ranks amongst my favourites in this show. I can't wait!

The Sig and Alex meeting is one of my favorite moments in all of anime and I think you hit the nail on the head saying it is an homage to Predator
The reason you haven't seen yoki and chuck Norris in the same room is because chuck Norris is scared of Yoki

Another homunculus falls. And with that, we have another character study to examine.
Sloth's entire character revolves around a reluctance to make use of his potential, a failure to act when he is able to. His reluctance to dig the tunnel, only spurred on to work harder by the idea that once he's done, he can stop working. His reluctance to actively fight at Briggs, only retaliating when struck. His refusal to make use of his incredible speed until it becomes apparent that he'll need to if he wants to have any chance of resting when his work is done.
Many people contributed to Sloth's defeat; Olivier, Izumi, Sig, the nameless Central soldiers. The greatest contributor by far, however, was Alex. As we've seen in his flashbacks, Alex is haunted by his own cowardice during the Ishvallan civil war. He couldn't bear the atrocities he was being ordered to commit. But rather than taking a stand for his beliefs and protesting the military's actions, or fighting against them in any way, he refused to fight and retreated from the battlefield in disgrace. This is the source of the wedge driven between Alex and Olivier; stationed in the north, detached from the horrors of the war, all she saw was a coward who failed to do his duty to his country.
And now, we see the culmination of Alex's character arc - overcoming his own sin of sloth, both externally and internally. Finally, when faced with this, the homunculus Sloth overworks himself, draining the last of his Philosopher's Stone in combat with Alex and Sig.
Of all the homunculi's deaths we've seen so far, Sloth's is a close second to Envy. There's definitely better ones yet to come, but out of Lust, Gluttony, Envy and Sloth, I find the symbolism around the latter two to be the most compelling.
Alex and Sig met much earlier in the Manga and the 03 anime way back during the stuff with OG Greed. They had a flexing competition.

I'm old enough to remember predator and it was Carl Weathers and Arnold Schwarzeneggar who did that scene. The original had a muscle bro moment when they first met and didn't say anything, they just flexed their muscles and said everything through how much they flexed their muscles.
Totally agree mr man, the fact the fodder have personality and purpose in this show and they still trail so far behind the incredible cast of characters, (in particular the incredibly written women characters) this show is in a league of its own. Not to say its the best show ever but in what it does best it truly has no equal.

1:22 you're half right about your assessment in their relationship. But if you noticed throughout the entire series, Mustang not once called Ed by his actual name. It was always just his military title. It shows Mustang doesn't have that much respect for him yet.
Actually, he calls to Ed by his name two times, and was in the fight with envy.
One thing the 2003 anime apparently did right was the original meeting of Armstrong and Seig. Highly recommend watching the clip of them meeting in the butcher shop from the 2003 version - it is perfect.
Just binge the last bit in one go, we will all watch that movie length video.
This is probably 1 of my favorite episode from any anime series I have ever watched mainly because of the Sig and Alex Armstrong bromance handshake the beat down on Sloth, and The Return Of King Bradley entrance Greetings I’m Back moment just shocks a lot of people myself included the 1st time I watched FMAB because you don’t see him for several episodes so you kinda forget about him since a whole lot of other things are happening in Central
It's fun to watch the interaction between strong women and the muscly men lol. That scenario you said of muscle men meeting on the street reminded me of the "same hat" meme.
I think it's great that despite being adamant at first to do their job and capture the Armstrongs, the other soldiers end up wanting to save them after fighting alongside them with them even trying to let the two esacape even though the Armstrongs are the only ones who can actually fight properly with Sloth.
And the fight between Hohenheim and Father! Well, the beginning anyways. I love that fight, too! Excited to see your reaction next episode cause something discussed a few episodes ago would be brought up again.
Logically, it does make that Sloth has a high durability during this fight. He has never fought much during his lifetime. Because of him digging the transmutation circle. Let's put it this way. Let's say that each of the homunculi expect for Wrath and Pride were given 100 times to regenerate before they finally die apon there creation. Sloth was always in the tunnel. But the other homunculi were busy doing more active roles. Sunday more likely to engage in combat and then get damage in a fight. Thus, Sloth was untouched until the first time we officially saw him at Briggs. As for Gluttony dying quickly after he was brought back by Father. He was facing multiple opponents who are faster than him. Plus, he couldn't fully bock any attacks he will like too much on a sense of smell rather than sight in while in the dark.
Luke, everyone knows about Karley, he's like the second most important character in the whole show. Like I know you secretly do know who Karley is and You're just testing me, I just wanted to let you know that I totally know who he is 😉🤣🤣🤣

In the manga, Sig and Alex met much earlier, right before the Fuhrer vs. Greed fight in Dublith (Ed had to go to Southern Command to renew his license, found the Fuhrer there, was passed without doing anything, and then the Fuhrer with Armstrong as his bodyguard followed Ed south to meet his teacher). When Bradley was trying to recruit Izumi, Sig was giving him the stone wall treatment, and he and Alex got into a flex-off that led to them forming a friendship.
It's probably the #1 skipped manga scene I hate that they skipped, because it makes this scene with Izumi and Sig showing up MORE heartfelt and wonderful because Alex immediately recognized him and gets his surge of strength from seeing his friend Sig again. So much more emotional.

FMA 2003 tells a very different tale. it wraps up in a subsequent movie "Conqueror of Shamballa." The DVD has a few shorts on it, one you might love. You think it is Ed, Al, and Winry but... wandering a modern city? Turns out they are trying to get to Great Granddad's on his birthday. As it ends, an old man lays down a photo of Ed and Al at maybe 25 years old, and by his arm and hand you realize this is Ed at 100 years old.

The brothorhood in the title isnt for Ed and Al but Alex and Izumi's husband for being such a bros.
I forgot, but I wonder if Olivier ever finds out that Izumi was that one woman who was deemed ''the only person ever who could thwart the Briggs defence'' in the North, when she was training surviving the Winter😂 Loved their badass-women-and-gentle-muscle-men duo meeting, and they'll have plenty more interaction to come!

There is a Virtue in being EXCEPTIONAL. A state of being that inspires through example. (see Ancient Greek philosophy prior to Rationality took over.)

It really says something that it took subterfuge, the element of surprise, and overwhelming force for the rebels to take Central command, and even with that, they did it with relative ease, but even being in a fortified position, Bradley has them in a panic. That's just how utterly terrifying the guy is. They have the fortification, they have the tanks, they have the advantage, but Bradley is just a force.
Good soldiers recognize a good commander, and respect them.
So.
Gluttony was eaten.
Envy chose death instead of continuing to be jealous of humans.(not the main reason but the point can be argued)
Lust died by the hands of a man in a platonic relationship.
And Sloth worked himself to death
I will always state that envy's burning is the most satisfying scene in fmab... Next episode has the most badass sequence.

Izumie's always had a bigger figure. IIRC, the Mangaka (who is female btw, not that it matters) said "I like Men with baboom and I like Women with Vavoom, its my fantasy world, I can make everyone look how I want" and its why 99% of the men have torso's bigger than barrels, same with the women.

Lol yes! that dude that walked closer to the screen when Alphonse was fixing the car, that was King Bradley!.. 😬 now, more of the second half of the war will start. When the enemy is defending and flipping the tables on the good guys that they were having the upper hand up until this point.

My head cannon is that Alex & Sig went on the road to become the undisputed tag team champions of the world. The next episode is going to ask one of the most difficult questions anyone could answer. Would you rather face an angry Wrath or an angry Pride in a dark alley wanting a fight?

It would have had a bigger impact if it wasn't so soon after Envy, but other than that? A great ending for him.
When I was younger I always loved that Sig and Armstrong were just chill muscle bro's.
Now I fully believe that given time Armstrong Sig and Isumi would become a proud Thouple.

That's the point. It's not "surprise" that Bradley's return should give you, it's fear and insertion, because we know that this man is insanely op, and Briggs is going to have a veeeery bad time

So, now we all know bradley is alive, this means that there are only 2 homunculi as foes remaining which would be wrath and pride.
Lust was incinerated, Gluttony was eaten by Pride, Greed is now an ally, Envy killed himself and the two gymbros ended Sloth XD. Yes, only 2 left.
Someone looking at Sloth, and saying that he is ironically fast is kind of incorrect. As a sin, Sloth is the result of wanting to not put in any effort, or to not interact with others. In other words, Sloth was holding back his true speed because he did want to put any effort. Thus he has always been that fast. It's kind of like how a moody teenager is forced into doing something. Which is why Sloth says that everything is a pain. Because in his mind effort is irritating to him.
Izumi has always been... curvaceous. 😄
