I try to plant trees, buches and plants/flowers, that will provid that pollen and nectar from snowmelt över the summer till frost comes again. I learn a lot from you! You seemed to get lost in the peaceful beauty and brilliance of that pollinator plot, and then panic at the end when you realized how long you had been there... Lol I can totally relate! I suspect that you will be making better plans for finding all the wet spots next year and having an efficient way to get them planted. And probably learning more about the different native pollinators in your area along the way! And your brothers might be trying to hide the wet spots, because they are discovering that any field that has a pollinator plot in it, you show up late and they overflow... Lol
Maybe pinpoint the wet spots you see Ian and dive into seeds and maybe bulbs that bloom from start August to mid September? So you can plant bulbs and seed in the spring time (if there are suitable bulbs)

I've heard Maximillian sunflowers give a good amount of nectar. Also, Borage (aka starflower) is recognized as a bee flower. It attracts predatory insects and is an excellent companion plant for almost everything. It can be harvested as a vegetable and an herb and flowers from about June to September. As an herb, it actually tastes like honey!
We had an enormous wasp attack on the 7 hives we have here, 3 smaller hives are completely ruïned. So I have put out open feeders to take the pressure off the hives. And till now it seems to work. It also means a lot of work to make sure every day there is a couple of full feeders but the bees ( other bees and wasps and bumblebees too) love it. The Ivy isn't flowering yet so it takes a bit longer for that last honey to come in. Here we CAN have 4 or 5 honeyflows to come in. OSR, flowers, Lime, Heather and Ivy. But you have to stay on it in August because of the wasps. If the colonies aren't strong enough and you haven't reduced the entrance you can be screwed losing an enormous amount of colonies only because of the wasps. Take care and God bless.

My phacelia started off strong but petered out during a dry spell. What strain of sun flowers are you using? I experimented with buckwheat this year and planted about 500 lbs. of it. The buckwheat did very well and even hung in there during the dry spells. It takes about 6 weeks for the buckwheat to run full cycle and I just mow the residue and disk or work it back in. I am waiting to see how the third round of buckwheat does. So far it seems to be a great cover crop and soil builder. Have you tried planting buckwheat in any of your wet areas?
I understand the phacelia and sunflowers. But what was the purpose of the oats? I planted Autumn sunflowers in my vegetable garden this year instead of a veg garden. The bees like them. The golden rod is now in bloom in Michigan.What type of sunflower are you planting? What other type of flowers could I put in with the phacelia? What type of soil does it like? Mine is clay and get quite moist.
Yep.. on that pollen and nutrition seems to be quality over quantity eh? You gotta try some Holy basil plantings in your yards! Amazing! First Goldenrod opening here now and multiple Buckwheat plantings as ell as Sunflower coming on.
If you have enough of these flower patches at the end of the honey harvesting season (like now), the bees can stop panicking and robbing and start making their own winter honey reserve and you don't need to make those patties.

Go through the soil or aerial photo maps of your farm for the wet opportunities for next year. Create a plot map in the winter while you sweep the bee room!
What would do if they back filled the brood box with pollen ?... Say you had two boxes on .. We ran into a little nectar dearth bees went into pollen hauling mode .. Back filling the brood nest as it hatched out .. Pushed the queen up in the second box .. I took advantage of the loosestrife flow mid aug to get new comb drawn .. Stripped them down to a single box then added a second box of new foundation .. Bees drew out the second box straight across nice and even .in a weeks time . But now the bottom box is mostly pollen .. Queens up in the new comb laying ..
What is your final take on the algae patties? Do you think they are as good or better than the other store bought patties? Do you think they help with mite control?
About 4:00, your bee, fully loaded with pollen, took some of the patty and painted the surface of the pollen with the patty. I would not have thought she would do that. Maybe you found factor X.

What if the factor X isn't pollen. I am mixing my supplement with maple syrup instead of sugar . My theory is the tree sap isn't just for propolus , they may be getting some nutrition from it. I also plan on tapping all the tree's i can in the spring and just putting pine straw in the buckets to let the bees have the early spring sugar. The best bee food is free .;~)

She needs space, bees don’t move pollen like they do with honey. They consume the pollen

Early spring flowers are often on trees. Pussy willow being one of the first. Favoring the best pollen producers might be part of the strategy.
Would it pay to plant a planter width or two of sunflowers around some fields, weather it’s wet or not, every year?
That’s my plan but I have to watch crop rotation and possible disease exposure to the following crops

Its early fall here in Alaska my bees are bringing in a orange mold from the underside of the Fireweed and Willow leaves looks like pollen but is not.
Will that mold hurt your bees...
