Aww Rich this has been your best vlog ever and such an amazing tribute to your Dad. I could hear his voice as you were speaking and am so grateful you have been able to make this post. I remember many of my phone calls with him which never started with 'Hiya Sue, it's Malcolm' but 'Now then lass ...' and straight into something profound! He didn't need to say who it was but just got straight to business. He was incredibly philosophical and I always thought he could have written far better books than most eminent authors in this field but he had no desire because he had no ego and that's what made him so very special. He was kindness personified - when I first came out of hospital and got my flat he came over and insisted on buying and fixing window locks on all the windows because it was ground floor. His kindness and values live on through you and all your family and I am so grateful to have 'Our Richard, Our Jackie, Our Luke and Our Georgia' in my life. Sending lots of love to you both xxx
Ohhhh Sue, you have nearly got me with your kind and lovely words🥲. You know that Dad had a soft spot for you, and he always loved your chats and he felt so much more positive after speaking with you. It was really good therapy to write the article, but putting this video together was actually a real joy. It felt bit like celebrating all the things Dad was really good at. Not sure he really knew how much he meant to others that he came across, but that was a sign of who he was and what he stood for. Thanks as always for your kind words and ongoing support🙏
What a lovely dad. And so true his wisdom about life. My father died many years ago now. He was old fashioned stiff upper lip, not given to displays of emotion, but he always supported us, always did the responsible thing, and cared wonderfully for my mother in her declining years.
It's a small world, Richard. I have stuttered all my life, and it was my father - a Naval Chaplain - who took me to speech therapy each week throughout my childhood. It was through him that I learnt to concentrate on the things I could do rather than those I couldn't and not worry about other people's reaction to my stutter. I inherited his love of making things, photography and sailing, so I trained as a cabinet-maker, became a schoolmaster and taught crafts, photography and sailing. I still make wooden bowls etc on my lathe and keeping my tools sharp is vital to ensure a smooth surface and avoid accidents. My father died and was buried at sea over 50 years ago but I remember it as if it was yesterday.
Thanks so much for this David- absolutely inspirational❤️ So great that you managed to spend your entire life indulging your passions. Dad loved his time in his wood shed- when he retired from the tools, he bought a lathe and started learning again. He was a great wood turner and we have some treasured pieces of his in the family now. He never wanted a fancy lathe, as he said that removed the skill and the love that went into each bowl😉 We still have to clear out his wood shed, it is as he left it 3 years ago. So many treasured tools and sooooo much aged wood blanks ready for the next project. Thanks for sharing your wonderful experiences and for supporting what we do🙏
As if I could not love Yorkshire any more than I already do. Richard I felt like I met your kind and thoughtful Dad this morning. I’m quite certain there will be many people like myself watching this video who will be touched in some way by the wisdom of your Dad…a very special Yorkshire Carpenter!
Thanks Sharon- he was the ipitome of Yorkshireness, with all the positivity and support he brought to anyone he met. He really could talk to anyone...and often did😂 They bred them tough in those days, but he was so kind in so many ways to so many people. Hope you guys are all well? Thanks for the support🙏
Thankyou Richard. Whilst I got upset it made me reflect on all the lessons from my dad. He also died just over 3 years ago and was a straight talking joiner from the north east but who became the chair of the local cricket club when he retired. His purpose that made me so proud. I was also the first one to go to uni but had a very different senior job in corporate world. One day I will get the strength to write down what he taught me. A lot of the same things you describe and on reflection made me the person I am today.
Thanks for this Ian...and thanks for sharing your own story. Your dad sounds like a pretty inspirational guy. I definately found it good therapy to write the initial atricle for our blog- it was not about the outcome, but the process and it really helped at the time. Going back to revisit it was initially quite hard, but in the end it was actually a lovely experience and I recalled some things that I had started to forget. I would just encourage you to do it for you. No one else needs to read it. Glad that you enjoyed the video. Thanks for your support🙏
‘Treat everyone how you would want to be tret’ is one of the things my dad used to say and something I have always said to my children. If everyone lived by this, the world would be a much nicer place to live. A smile and the word hello are free but can make all the difference too 😊 You were lucky to have a great man as a dad and his legacy will live on. Great video 👏👏
Thanks Dorothy- you will probably realise from watching the channel that we firmly believe that positivity is infectious. It takes a strong person to be grumpy with you if you greet them with a bright hello and a happy smile. You are spot on in your observations and we absolutely agree. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Dominic- that was exactly the same feelings I had- Happiness not sadness. I didnt know what to expect when I started- but I really enjoyed the whole process. Such happy memories❤️ Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Denise- don't be sad for me, I was just really lucky that I had dad in my life. Of course I miss him every day, but I am just grateful for what we had together. Thanks for the support🙏
OMG I blubbed all the way through this. Mum passed away recenly and her funeral is tomorrow. She was a Yorkshire lass and that grit and determination never left her. She was a hard woman but I now realise her sad past shaped her but she has taught me so much which I didnt realise until she passed and although she could never verbalise her love for us, she really did love us and taught us to be independent. Thank you for sharing your story x
Ohhh Beverley- we are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts go out from our family to yours at this sad time. Probably not the best timing of putting out this video- it was not the reaction we were after❤️ Everything you have said about your Mum is spot on. Dad never had an issue with saying what was on his mind...which wasnt always the best thing at times! He however never held back on showing and verbalising his love for us all. We were so lucky with this. When he was terminally diagnosed, we vowed that nothing would be left unsaid and I am so grateful for that time we had together. I now make a point of never putting off a hug, or telling the people that I love just that. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time. Look after each other, Richard and Jackie
Hi Richard, wow what an amazing & powerful vlog, thank you for sharing. I don’t doubt your dad would be thrilled to see how you’ve changed & embraced life to the full. My mums passing, nearly 13 years ago (days past her 65th birthday), has changed me as a person fundamentally. Like you her passing has been the catalyst for my early retirement last year at 54. Life is undoubtedly what we make it for ourselves. Thank you again ❤
Thanks for the lovely words Keri and for sharing a story that is so close to your heart and meaningful. Life can be truly horrible at times, but you are another example of growth coming out of trauma. Of course we would always prefer to avoid the trauma, but if we can make positive changes out of it, all to the good👍 Absolutely agree is life is what we make it. We like to keep our glass half full😉 Thanks for the support🙏
Lovely video Richard. Thank you for sharing your insights into grief.😢 It was great to hear some of your dads sayings. I love 'every man needs a shed'. Take care xx
Thanks, Richard! What a lovely vlog and a wonderful tribute to your dad. I’ve taken a lot away from it. I firmly believe in treating others as you would like to be treated. And as a fun final thought-mums always know best, but my dad can say a thousand words with just one look!
Hi there 🤗😃! About the final mentionings in your comment: I know exactly what you mean! I remember my dad‘s facial expression (😳🫣😤😒 or so!) every time he decided or somehow felt it was better to keep shut! Take care 😘!
Mum's always know best...and who is to argue with that. Mum and Dad made the best combination. Mum even now comments on the fact that she had to live in a house of all men for most of her life...even the cats were toms😂 Treating people with respect, whether they deserve it or not is an easy win in life👍 Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Jayne- you are so right- he was quite a man. I am pretty sure he will be having a good time and entertaining everyone where ever he is now. Thanks for the support🙏
You are getting better and better at making these videos Richard. Total respect for your composure throughout. You got me with a bit of a lump in my throat at the end!
Isn't it amazing how much of our parents we find in ourselves? Sometimes it takes a while to get there, but in the end, there is so much that they teach us along the way. Thank you for sharing both your love of your Dad as well as his wise words. Okay, now I am going to call my Dad and tell him how much I care! ❤
Ohh thank you so much for this. Leave no words unsaid! Tell the people that you love them. If in doubt- ring your parents- they will appreciate it. This one gesture has made my night! Thank you🙏 Thanks for the support🙏
Fantastic Richard, thank you for sharing. It was a lovely poignant and educational video. I'm sure he was incredibly proud of you and would still be today ❤
Thanks for this- one of the many good things about dad was he never held back...in positives or negatives😂 He was never affraid to let us know how much he loved us and also how proud he was of us. We left no words unsaid in the end, and that is something I now aspire to do each and every day. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Stuart- despite the topics, it actually brought back really happy memories of dad- which I didn't really expect to happen. Grief is such a strange thing. Thanks for the support🙏
Really emotional video, thanks for sharing and totally get where you are coming from, loss of a father for a man or woman is very painful but I think we really do carry them with us.
Absolutely agree. Like I said, I am not religious, but I can definately feel dads energy with me day to day. I guess the memories of our times together live in my heart. Thanks for the support🙏
It wasn't that bad to do in the end...I genuinely didnt know what to expect or what emmotions it would evoke. In the end, it was a lovely experience taking about dad and it brought back some lovely memories that had perhaps faded a little. Thanks for the support🙏
What a great Dad and a great son you are too Richard. I’m sure your Dad would continue to be so proud of you and the path you have chosen in life. Hope you felt ok after filming this. Well done. Take good care and continue enjoying life 😊
Thanks for this Jude. I was not sure how I would cope with this video, but in the end it was fine, and it brought back some wonderful memories we shared with dad. It was a good thing to do for me. Thanks so much for your concern- it is so much appreciated. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Helen- I genuinely wasnt sure how it would go or how I would cope, but it was actually ok in the end. It was lovely having the opportuinity to revisit a load of memories about dad. Thanks for the support as always🙏
Heartfelt video Richard, thank you. Loss is always there, we just learn to live alongside it. Also lost my Dad 3 years ago it’s great to reflect on how lucky we are to have had such giant characters to look up too. ❤
Lovely words Richard ❤️ and how blessed you where to have a wonderful relationship with your Dad,he sounds so real and Lovely.I miss that generation 🌻💛
Thanks Richard, just beautiful !. I am sure many of us will be thinking fondly of our own Dad's who have passed on and smiling at their sayings that are intertwined into our own memories 😊
Thanks Bronwen for being so brave. I am glad that it was of some use to you. I guess there are lots of Dads out there that are very similar- we are so lucky to have had them in our lives❤️ Thanks for the support🙏
I lost my Dad three years ago on Jan 28th. Growing up in the American South, my Dad believed in equality and kindness which stood out, and I will always be proud of him for that and for instilling those values in me....along with inheriting his sarcastic sense of humor 😀. You're right though, the hole inside of us never seems to fill, but if we share who they were, the difference they made to us will live on. Thank you for sharing about your Dad, he sounds like a wonderful human being❤
Thanks for sharing these personal thoughts Renea- they are very much appreciated. Equality and kindness are pretty good places to start leading a fulfilled life aren't they? Sounds like your Dad had a pretty good understanding of the world. Thanks for the support and sharing your story.🙏
Thank you Richard for sharing - reminds me of the wise things my parents and grandparents also said to me growing up and now l say to my children and grandchildren-so they must be true x
I guess that is wisdom Jane...something that we grow into. I feel that I have a long way to go, but Dad definitely helped me make a start👍 Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you Nana- I am sorry that it evoked that emotion. It was my very wise Aunty that gave me the grief analogy. It is so true. I am getting better at skirting around the sides, but at key times like birthdays and Christmas, the hole reminds me that it is still there😬 I console myself in the fact that it is because Dad meant so much to me that the hole is so deep and everlasting. I am not sure I really want it to go away... Thanks for your support🙏
Thanks so much for this Richard, I lost my dad and one of my brothers in 2023. My dad had a very similar outlook to life as your dad. One of the last things he said to us before he passed was to enjoy our lives, to take care of each other, to follow our dreams and passions and to just do it whilst we can. I miss him and our chats together so much
Thanks for sharing this Steve- wow what amazing words! I still miss my daily chats with Dad- but I console myself with the memories, the conversations in my head and the dreams I often have where we have a good old chat👍 Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Aprillsca- it felt about the right time to do it. Around Dad's birthday and 3 years in I can just about hold the tears back👍 Thanks for the support🙏
Beautiful , such a lovely tribute for your amazing Dad and it is evident in you that his wonderful values & character live on. So relatable Richard for us all. Thank you for sharing. Must of been very emotional for you to do.
Thanks for this Allison- I genuinely didn't know what to expect when I started to film this. I thought it might be really upsetting and sad. In contrast, it caused me to revisit some lovely memories and I really enjoyed my time in the forest thinking and talking about Dad. I miss him everyday- but genuinely feel that he is also with me in my heart and my memories. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks for this- it means a lot. It was a good video to complete and it brought back some lovely memories of dad that we shared together. Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you Richard for your bravery in sharing your lifetime experience shaped by your Dad. He sounds an amazing man, and I think you did the best thing ever which was to re-evaluate your life when your Dad passed away. Look where you are now with Jackie and your family by your side. I found your video very emotional. I have all of this to come with my mum and dad in their 90s. My Dad has dementia, my Mum is his carer with her own health complexities. One of the reasons for my early retirement at the end of April is to be more available for them, but my Mum doesn't know this, if she did she would want me to carry on working. She thinks it's to travel in our campervan more, which it is, but it's also to have more family time. I will be thinking lots of your key points from your Dad, i feel like I have lost my Dad already, sadly. Take care of yourself and Jackie, I will read your blog now. ❤❤❤❤❤ xx
Oh Janet- thank you for this and thank you for sharing❤️ You will absolutely have the time to devote to your mum and dad- that is priceless. The time I had with Dad in his last few months will stay with me forever. I was a workaholic at the time, but thankfully dropped everything to be with Dad and support the family. I guess that was the change in me. Use the time that you have and build those memories👍 Dementia is such a cruel disease and you will be aware that my Mum is suffering with it. I do get upset sometimes- but Mum is still Mum and I love her for that. A lot of my visits are now purely for me, as she cannot remember my visits- but she does enjoy them in the moment. We are just so glad that she still remembers us. You are always in our thoughts. Richard & Jackie🙏
@@earlyretirementwanderlust thanks Richard, I am the same with my visits to my mum and dad, my dad enjoys it when I'm there but when I phone later in the day, he can't remember my visit, at least he recognises me when I visit and when I phone. Take care ♥️
Thank you really enjoyed the video and the quotes. On todays bike ride I will be riding past a large rock where John Wesleyan used to preach from, (near St Ives) I will stop there for a few minutes and think about the final quote.
Ohhh I love this! Thanks for sharing! I need to find that rock👍 We were down St Ives last spring and I never knew. Thanks for the support and thoughts🙏
What a lovely homage to your dad. Thank you for sharing him with us. My dad and your dad would have been fast friends. Mine was a Air Force air traffic controller, first to go to college in his fam, and a machinst. He was also a philosopher couched within a frank, pragmatic man. My dad's advice to me was to find contentment in who I am, where I am, and what I'm doing.
Well, It’s quite difficult for me to express in words how insightful this video is. It’s just full of special thoughts and ideas. Some are not comfortable to deal with, but that’s life, as you eloquently put it. Thanks very much for sharing, your Dad must have been amazing to know.❤
Thanks Graham- he really was. I know everyone's Dad is special to them, but I am eternally grateful for what my Dad did for me. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks for this and I am sorry for your loss. I miss Dad every day, but I console myself in the fact that it must be that he meant so much to me that I still feel it. Sometimes I just wish we could have a sit down and a chat🥲 Thanks for sharing your feelings🙏
Thanks Deborah- I am glad that you took something from it. It was actually a really enjoyable project to put together. I wasn't sure how I would cope, but it was really quite cathartic in the end. Thanks for the support🙏
Such a powerful video! I can see how the values your Dad lived by have helped you develop into the man you are. I have an image of the potter moulding the clay into something people will want to emulate.
I love these sessions. Fabulous. Also, it's Sunday, and I have an early evening of catch-up tv. Imagine my surprise seeing you both on Escape to the country. A total joy to see you both. 🥰
Good morning Richard 🤗🥰! Woah, what a fabulous way to start my day with! Me, being an elderly sod 3 days to 65, was given some very valuable advice and maybe even lessons to reconsider my points of view! Hope my deadlocked ways will set me free to at least cure some parts of my mindset or crumbling mind! Decades of personal experiences and the damage done! Like your dad was telling all of us: life is the hardest! Thank you very much for sharing your story and thoughts! May they work like good manure for everyone who has watched this vlog! Best wishes for you and your family! Regards to Jackie and keep enjoying yourselves in the French Alps, take care and safe travels 🤗🤗😘!
Thank you...so glad that I could start your morning so positively🎉 Love the way that you have made everything fit together so seamlessly. As always- thank you for your kind words and continued support🙏
Thanks for this Jonny- his faith was strong to the end and a real comfort to him and us. He really did cross the Christian boundaries- from Salvation Army to Franciscan Monks, you cannot get more extreme than that. In reality, Dad was just a really caring and compassionate man. Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Andrew. So sorry for your loss. It never goes away (thankfully), but it does get easier with time. Thanks for your support and sharing your feelings🙏
thanks for sharing such a personal story, a wise man. I use many of the things you have quoted. One we like is 'it is what it is' when things go south!
Oh wow, that was so uplifting; what an amazing role model you had in life. I’m sure your dad would be very proud. I can definitely see his pearls of wisdom running through what you and Jackie have created here. X
It did Richard. I’m going to watch it again & write out the sayings & poem to take with me in the van. I’ve got some written out that the elderly lady I lost in ‘23 always used to say to me. I find myself saying her, “go safely” at the start of a journey & “we progress” quite a lot! She was 103 years old & her stoicism, beliefs & sayings guided her through her years. X
Wow! brilliant video Richard. Must of been very cathartic for you to talk about your dad and what you have learnt from him. So poignant. We can all learn from others good and bad to lead a better life. You both are doing that so well at the moment. Thank you for sharing 🤗
Thanks for this Gill- spot on- absolutley cathartic. I wasn't sure how I would deal with it, or how it would go, but in the end I really enjoyed visiting some of my memories of Dad. Grief is a really strange thing and I have given up trying to predict it. Thanks for the support🙏
I too keep it close Claire. I found it really strange that it was clearly so important to Dad and yet he never shared it with me when he was alive. Perhaps he wanted to keep it special to me when he had gone. Thanks for the support🙏
This is a brilliant blog, thank you so much for sharing your dad's very meaningful and wise words of wisdom. He would be so proud of you for doing this. Again thank you.
Richard what an amazing vlog , can i say that your dads words ring so true with us as we watched the vlog we were saying to each other that’s so true on many of his sayings, we have always got a glass half full, and now at my age 66 years young if someone treats me wrongly they may get another chance, but do it again I block them out , you have to have positivity in your life .Richard Jackie may our paths cross on our travels one day and it will be a pleasure.Garry and Judith
Thanks for this Garry and Judith- love that you watched it together and it hit the spot for you both. I love your two strikes model. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, but sometimes we have toxic people in our lives that do more harm than good. I think that with age, we get better at spotting this and naturally become less tolerant of such behaviour. Thanks for the support🙏
Hi from Altafulla, Tarragona, in Catalonia. I follow you two in youtube but this video today is so nice. I am 59, University Professor, and thinking about retirement. I have a camper van too. Well, Keep doing these wonderful job! See you...
Wonderful video Richard. Thank you for sharing your dad’s wisdom - I’m sure he would be very proud of you and what you’re doing with your life. This has made me reflect that I need to know more about my mum and dad’s lives so I will sit down with my older sister to ask her. My parents were quite old (in those days!) when they had me and my dad died when I was 13 (he was only 62); my mum died when I was 37 but I never really felt I knew them. I’d like to know more about how they lived their lives.
Thanks for this Ros- I am glad that it has sparked a positive action for you. Enjoy the time chatting with your sister...I am sure she will get as much out of it as you. Thank you for the support and sharing your story through the comments🙏

I firmly believe in treating others as you would like to be treated. And as a fun final thought-mums always know best, but my dad can say a thousand words with just one look!
Hi there 🤗😃!
About the final mentionings in your comment:
I know exactly what you mean!
I remember my dad‘s facial expression (😳🫣😤😒 or so!) every time he decided or somehow felt it was better to keep shut!
Take care 😘!
Mum's always know best...and who is to argue with that. Mum and Dad made the best combination. Mum even now comments on the fact that she had to live in a house of all men for most of her life...even the cats were toms😂
Treating people with respect, whether they deserve it or not is an easy win in life👍
Thanks for the support🙏
What a wonderful tribute to your Dad - thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you for this. Take care Gill
You are quite welcome Gill.
Thanks for the support🙏
Love this!
What a special man your Dad was. I’m sure he is rejoicing now with the angels.
Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful, heartfelt tribute to your Dad!
Thanks Deborah🙏
Wise words indeed and a great tribute to your dad.
Many thanks🙏
Your dad must have been a wonderful person! Thank you for sharing a glimpse of his life! ❤
Thanks Alex- he truly was!
Thanks for the support🙏
What a wonderful tribute to your Dad ~ he was a very wise man. There’s some great advice in his sayings. Thank you so much for sharing x
Thanks Jackie- very much appreciated. He was and I miss him so much.
Thanks for the support🙏
Isn't it amazing how much of our parents we find in ourselves? Sometimes it takes a while to get there, but in the end, there is so much that they teach us along the way. Thank you for sharing both your love of your Dad as well as his wise words. Okay, now I am going to call my Dad and tell him how much I care! ❤
Ohh thank you so much for this. Leave no words unsaid! Tell the people that you love them. If in doubt- ring your parents- they will appreciate it.
This one gesture has made my night! Thank you🙏
Thanks for the support🙏
A lovely tribute to your Dad Richard. He sounded to be a very wise, kind and caring man.
He was Jill- I was very blessed with my parents❤️
Thanks as always for your support🙏
Fantastic Richard, thank you for sharing. It was a lovely poignant and educational video. I'm sure he was incredibly proud of you and would still be today ❤
Thanks for this- one of the many good things about dad was he never held back...in positives or negatives😂 He was never affraid to let us know how much he loved us and also how proud he was of us. We left no words unsaid in the end, and that is something I now aspire to do each and every day.
Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Richard, for sharing these valuable insights, and for taking on this clearly emotional topic.
Beautiful, Richard. So touching... You had a fabulous Dad! ❤
Thanks Lena- very much appreciated. I was really fortunate to have dad in my life.
Thanks for the support🙏
Well done for getting through making this Richard. Always good to be reminded of the simple things
It wasn't that bad to do in the end...I genuinely didnt know what to expect or what emmotions it would evoke. In the end, it was a lovely experience taking about dad and it brought back some lovely memories that had perhaps faded a little.
Thanks for the support🙏
Brilliant Vlog is so many different ways.....thank you for sharing.
Thanks Gary- glad that you found it of use👍
Thanks for the support🙏
What a great Dad and a great son you are too Richard. I’m sure your Dad would continue to be so proud of you and the path you have chosen in life. Hope you felt ok after filming this. Well done. Take good care and continue enjoying life 😊
Thanks for this Jude. I was not sure how I would cope with this video, but in the end it was fine, and it brought back some wonderful memories we shared with dad. It was a good thing to do for me. Thanks so much for your concern- it is so much appreciated.
Thanks for the support🙏
What an eloquent and moving tribute to your Dad, Richard. Thank you for sharing.❤
So true, so true!
Thanks for your support🙏
Very wise words
Thanks Paul- he was a wise man👍
Excellent and love your dad’s pearls of wisdom 💪
Thanks Paul- and thanks for the support🙏
Your dad was splendid, and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Ohhhh thank you. If I could be just 5% of the man he was, I will have lived a life well lived.
Thanks for the support🙏
Lovely words Richard ❤️ and how blessed you where to have a wonderful relationship with your Dad,he sounds so real and Lovely.I miss that generation 🌻💛
Thanks Hatty...they were certainly a very special gereration. Hope we can be the same for our kids🤞
Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks Richard, just beautiful !. I am sure many of us will be thinking fondly of our own Dad's who have passed on and smiling at their sayings that are intertwined into our own memories 😊
So true Gill!
Thanks for the support🙏
I got a lump in my throat as soon as I pressed play. My old Pa sounded very similar. Very brave of you.
Thanks Bronwen for being so brave. I am glad that it was of some use to you. I guess there are lots of Dads out there that are very similar- we are so lucky to have had them in our lives❤️
Thanks for the support🙏
Really love that vlog so nice of you to share those things of a great man that had his head screwed on right as I guess he would have said 😀
Great quote Barry- love it!
Thanks for sharing🙏
Thank you.
Cheers Phil🙏
Thank you Richard for sharing - reminds me of the wise things my parents and grandparents also said to me growing up and now l say to my children and grandchildren-so they must be true x
I guess that is wisdom Jane...something that we grow into. I feel that I have a long way to go, but Dad definitely helped me make a start👍
Thanks for the support🙏
@@earlyretirementwanderlust🥰
Beautiful video. It brought tears to my eyes. I lost my dad early when I was 18 but the hole is still there.
Thank you Nana- I am sorry that it evoked that emotion. It was my very wise Aunty that gave me the grief analogy. It is so true. I am getting better at skirting around the sides, but at key times like birthdays and Christmas, the hole reminds me that it is still there😬
I console myself in the fact that it is because Dad meant so much to me that the hole is so deep and everlasting.
I still miss my daily chats with Dad- but I console myself with the memories, the conversations in my head and the dreams I often have where we have a good old chat👍
Thanks for the support🙏
You can be really proud for making this video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Aprillsca- it felt about the right time to do it. Around Dad's birthday and 3 years in I can just about hold the tears back👍
Thanks for the support🙏
@earlyretirementwanderlust ❤️
That was lovely and reminds of my Dad who too has passed. Thank you for sharing his wisdom. Sounds like he was a great man.
Thanks Ciara- much appreciated. It is all about the happiness not the sadness these days.
Thank you for the support.🙏
A selfless video, resonating with the poem your dad always had with him. He'd be very proud x
Use the time that you have and build those memories👍
Dementia is such a cruel disease and you will be aware that my Mum is suffering with it.
Brilliant - that's all I need to say!
Thanks Andrew👍
Thanks for all of your continued support. It is very much appreciated🙏
Ohhh love these wise words Susan- I am going to use them again in my journal. So affirmative❤️
Thanks for sharing and for the supportive comment🙏
Well, It’s quite difficult for me to express in words how insightful this video is. It’s just full of special thoughts and ideas. Some are not comfortable to deal with, but that’s life, as you eloquently put it. Thanks very much for sharing, your Dad must have been amazing to know.❤
Thanks Graham- he really was. I know everyone's Dad is special to them, but I am eternally grateful for what my Dad did for me.
Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you for sharing your dad and his wisdom. A great vlog. My dad died six years ago and I really miss him.
Thanks for this and I am sorry for your loss. I miss Dad every day, but I console myself in the fact that it must be that he meant so much to me that I still feel it.
Sometimes I just wish we could have a sit down and a chat🥲
Thanks for sharing your feelings🙏
Absolutely beautiful tribute to your dad, all his sayings and advice have shaped you into yet another wonderful person.
Thanks Kim- such kind words. I count myself very lucky to have had a Dad like Dad.
Thanks for your support🙏
How moving and thought provoking which did resonate with me and my father, thank you for being so brave🤗
Thanks for this Diane- such kind words. I think that you have got it spot on with Dad.
Thanks for your support🙏
Hi Richard, fabulous vlog yet also heart wrenching. Your dad was obviously a very wise man. He has passed his wisdom on to you.
Thanks Keith- I am so grateful for everything that he brought to my life. I am a lucky lad!
Thanks for the support🙏
Great video, Richard. We realize how wise our parents were only after they passed. I had similar expiriences with my dad.
So true Nico- I am just grateful that I had that time with dad where we could make sure nothing went unsaid🙏
I love these sessions. Fabulous.
Also, it's Sunday, and I have an early evening of catch-up tv. Imagine my surprise seeing you both on Escape to the country. A total joy to see you both. 🥰
Hands down your best video yet! Respect.
Thanks Mike- very much appreciated. 👍
Thanks for the support🙏
Great video Richard!Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the words of wisdom from your Dad. Very inspiring.
Thanks Linda- I am glad that you found it of use👍
Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you for sharing. True wisdom in his words
Thanks Michelle- I am glad his words resonated👍
Thanks for the support🙏
Lovely tribute to your dad. Sounds like such a good bloke. Happy to hear about his strong Christian faith. Not enough men like that around these days.
@@earlyretirementwanderlust love it. Great video 👍
Very well spoken and certainly touched me losing my dad x.
Thanks Andrew. So sorry for your loss. It never goes away (thankfully), but it does get easier with time.
Thanks for your support and sharing your feelings🙏
Thank you 🙏🏻
You are welcome🙏
What a lovely video and how lucky you were to have a such a wise and kind father
Thanks Victoria- I am eternally grateful for what he gave me❤️
What a wonderful video, Richard - thank you! What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful father!
Thanks Carol- I was very lucky🙏
thanks for sharing such a personal story, a wise man. I use many of the things you have quoted. One we like is 'it is what it is' when things go south!
Very wise Stephen- we can only control certain things- most things are absolutly out of our control. Love this turn of phrase.
Thanks for sharing🙏
Thank you for sharing your personal story about your Dad. I loved this as it resonated with me and my family.
Thanks Audrey- I am glad that it was of some use to you and your family.
Thanks for the support🙏
Totally agree with you, life is short and watching your channel is a reminder to us all there’s so much in the world to see and do. 👍
Thanks for this George- glad the stuff we cover resonates👍
Thanks for the comment🙏
Oh wow, that was so uplifting; what an amazing role model you had in life. I’m sure your dad would be very proud. I can definitely see his pearls of wisdom running through what you and Jackie have created here. X
Thanks Louise- really pleased that it resonated with you.
Thanks for your support.🙏
It did Richard. I’m going to watch it again & write out the sayings & poem to take with me in the van. I’ve got some written out that the elderly lady I lost in ‘23 always used to say to me. I find myself saying her, “go safely” at the start of a journey & “we progress” quite a lot! She was 103 years old & her stoicism, beliefs & sayings guided her through her years. X
Thank you for sharing. Got so much from this video.
Thanks Ally- glad it hit the spot for you.
Thanks for the support🙏
Wow! brilliant video Richard.
Thank you for sharing your dad's wisdom I'll definitely come back to this video to remind myself of them.
Thanks for this- I am glad it was of use to you.
Thanks for the support🙏
Have been a keen viewer of your channel. This is one of the best episodes ever. Such valuable life lessons (via your dear father). 🙏🙏
Thank you do much Mangai- it is really appreciated. Such kind words.
Thank you for your support🙏
Lovely video, you clearly loved him very much and what a wise man…lots to think about and take on board.
Thanks Adam- I did and he was👍 Glad that it provoked some thoughts.
Thanks for the support🙏
Thank you Richard for sharing memories of your Dad, I’m sure he would be super proud of you ❤ ps I hope Jackie is feeling better now 🙏
Thanks Susan- very much appreciated.
Jackie is feeling a bit better and ready for a little ski tomrorrow🤞
Thanks for the lovely comment🙏
I love the poem, im going to print it and put it on my wall.❤
I too keep it close Claire. I found it really strange that it was clearly so important to Dad and yet he never shared it with me when he was alive. Perhaps he wanted to keep it special to me when he had gone.
Thanks for the support🙏
What a lovely video and so helpful - thank you
Thanks Vanessa- I am so pleased it was of use.
Thanks for the support🙏
Your Dad sounds very wise.
Thanks Nicky- he was🙏
This is a brilliant blog, thank you so much for sharing your dad's very meaningful and wise words of wisdom. He would be so proud of you for doing this. Again thank you.
Thanks Cath- Dad was such a modest man, but I hope he realised what an impact he had on those that he came across.
Thanks for your support🙏
Very powerful and very moving Richard. Thankyou
Thank you🙏
Richard what an amazing vlog , can i say that your dads words ring so true with us as we watched the vlog we were saying to each other that’s so true on many of his sayings, we have always got a glass half full, and now at my age 66 years young if someone treats me wrongly they may get another chance, but do it again I block them out , you have to have positivity in your life .Richard Jackie may our paths cross on our travels one day and it will be a pleasure.Garry and Judith
See you...
Many thanks👍
If you need a reccomendation for retirement- we are happy to provide one😉
Thanks for supporting the channel🙏
Amazing. Thank you. A x
Thanks Angela...and for all the support when I lost Dad. Will never forget our little chats at the end of the day👍
Thanks as always for the support🙏
Richard, I have been on board with your channel from day one. Love all your campervan adventures but this vlog is a belter!
Thanks Philip...and great use of the Yorkshire "belter" terminology. Very much appreciated👍
Thanks for your continued support🙏
Lovely video. You obviously loved him dearly and had huge respect for him. As I’m sure he did for you.
Thanks Mark- absolutely spot on. We left no words unsaid🙏
❤
Thanks Alan...as always🙏
Thank you for sharing. This really resonated with me ❤
Thanks Lisa- I am glad that you found it of use.

Thank you for sharing. Your Dad sounds a great man xxx
He really was.

Brilliant vlog Richard, thoroughly enjoyed that and wonderful advice
Thanks Pete🙏
Tret...a word that we in Lincs use too!
I'm glad it's not just me then😂😂😂
