About 12 years ago I’m in a grocery store looking over every brand of flour contemplating which one to go with. As I have had poor results and not at all happy with some other brands. I saw King Arthur flour on the shelf - never seen it before. I pick up a bag, reading it over and noticed they are an employee owned company. Well that alone got me. I believe if they are invested in the company they would take a great deal of pride in their products. Well I tried their flour, absolutely delighted with it, and have been a loyal customer since.
Realize this most bakeries use KA because it makes the best bread with the highest chances of success due to the highest protein count of all the flours on the shelf (their cake flour is at 9%). There is a reason bakeries use hundreds of pounds of flour per day to use for bread all the way to pastries and beyond. Wonderful stuff, but more expensive and not as easy to find in some markets.
@@generalawareness101 I don't think you really know commercial baking. Any bakery can use flour with the same amount of protein from a different brand. King Arthur sources all their flour and have tight requirements of their range of protein content, ash content, absorption, etc. These tight ranges make their flour good for quality control. Most bakeries do not use King Arthur.
I've switched from Gold Medal, Sapphire and store brands to King Arthur. The initial reason was it was the only UNbleached option available. But now, I'm just plain willing to spend a $1 or two more for a great product.
@@sofiabravo1994 WOW! $10 is indeed very high! I'm paying $3.50. Gold Medal is $2.98 and even Walmart store brand is $3.00. The Bread Flour from King Arthur is $4.12.

I wish that a company like King Arthur would come up with a way for us to "earn" the cookbooks through purchasing their flour! Like " S & H Green Stamps" back in the days of old! In fact "Green Stamps" were everything! From kitchenware to toys, clothes, tools etc... the stamps meant more than actual money, especially during the depression era to the 1960's. My grandma used to let me lick and stick the books as a young child. My great aunt and grandma as sisters shared stamps to get new or replacement items for house that were needed, yet could be shared and used by both. Money was so tight. A & P "bought up" the plan and killed it. They still have 'a plan' they claim. But, only when you shop in "their" stores, like all stores now. ' Future coupons' just don't have the same 'affect' as to getting things you really need. Thanks, great show!!!
Absolutely! Great idea! I am a King Arthur Flour frequent flyer too. It would be fun and satisfying to get “points” or a “stamp card” or something like that for product purchases. It is pretty much the only decent bread flour on the US market. I do have a small historic mill in the neighborhood which grinds small batches of flour. They're not officially allowed to sell their product since it's a historic mill and not up to today's food safety standards (it's a water powered wooden mill with a stone some 100 years old.). Their flour is supreme - although only available not for human consumption - which for me doesn't matter, I bake it, I don't care about food safety requirements saying stainless steel is better than wood - personally I doubt that since wood is anti-bacterial where stainless steel is not. I recently retired from an Employee Owned company - my ESOP account value means I don't have to work until I die and won't have to live outside, eating dog food.
ESOP’s are not new - however if the company goes bankrupt then employees can lose almost everything as they are treated basically like share holders and are last in line during bankruptcy proceedings. However, ESOPS offer tremendous tax advantages to the sellers of the company as opposed to seeming their interest to another company while still retaining control (ESOP members do not have voting shares in the company usually). Just look at the bankruptcy of United Airlines in the 2000’s which was an ESOP - most workers not only lost their ESOP value but since their pension contributions were used to pay for the ESOP they lost their defined benefit pensions too which were off-loaded to the PBGC and paid a few cents on the dollar and are capped.

@@miklovelka2114 I make cracker crust and that takes a higher percentage of bread flour. 3 cups bread and 1/2 cup AP. It works best with a super hot stone. When I do Detroit or Chicago deep dish I up the Ap
Shame on you, Mashed! Your shameless click-bait ploy deserves a thumb down!
Don't mislead with a suggestive title.
Anybody who uses KA flour can vouch for its quality.
discovered King Arthur flour 2 years ago! mainly because it was unbleached. super simple and great ingredients. I bake with it and make flour tortillas. it's AMAZING!! and feels so good to know they are good ingredients.
I've always loved KAB. Great products, socially and environmentally conscientious and wonderful customer service and staff on social media to answer questions!
I first heard about them when I lived in Connecticut and my tenant mentioned it. I've used it since- over 40 years now.
We lived in Norwich, my now ex was stationed at Groton.
I joined the KA bandwagon after using the bread flour for my Detroit style Red Top pizzas. It’s my go-to now for nearly all my baked goods.
KA really is the best all around.
King Arthur Flour is the only flour I would ever use. I discovered the results of using this flour over 15 yrs ago. It became my flour of choice since then.
Bob's Red Mill products as well are good like King Arthur. I use both!
Also now employee owned.
I almost didn’t watch this video b/c I thought it going to say something really bad about a favorite baking resource of mine. But now, wow, I love 😍 King Arthur 😍 more than ever!
King Biscuit Flour Hour, a staple of 70s Live Rock concerts
Absolutely!
LO. I remember it well
Employee owned company. I was immediately sold when I read this, and I was not at all surprised to have great results using it.
The recipes on their website are as consistent as their flour. Awesome company!
When my pie crusts fell apart ,I started using unbleached flour and I forgot how long I’ve used King Arthur flour. Now I use it also for the non GMO. I’m making homemade bread again since I’m not working at this time, all baking has turned out good.
It's nice to know that your Staff of Life has been so Profitable during the Pandemic! 💝
My aunt 83 years old always used King Author brand flower and corn meal.. I love it also but hard to find.
You can order from their website. Just brace yourself as they have an amazing amount of various baking necessities & you won't be able to help yourself. I rationalized my way around many of their offerings. ;-D
Associate Ownership is the Best Corporate Model
I would love to work for King Arthur Flour!!! I love what they stand for and all I can I now why I love King Arthur Flour even more!!! I was scared too when i saw the title.... I would appreciate a better title then scaring me half to death!!!
Bob's Red Mill is also a totally badass company worth spending your money on.
I only use KA.
I bake professionally, and it is the best, most consistent flour you're going to get off the shelf.
Well, I've found another product I'll be switching to, permanently. A couple bucks more to support a company doing the right things? No brainer. Although, I'm sorry they changed their iconic logo.
On this Thanksgiving day I am grateful for the King Arthur Baking Company and all B Corporations that prove by example that capitalism does not have to be operated on the basis of greed. Mahalo nui loa! Grazie mille! Kahmsahahmnidah! Merci! Gracias! Danke! Thanks!
I am a high school culinary teacher and King Arthur makes the best yeast I have ever tried!
King Arthur’s Gluten Free - wonderful for everything I need to bake!
I just found their GF flour and I'm eager to try it out. I've bought their GF Pancake mix and been very impressed so I'm thinking it's going to be very good. Prior to this I've always used Namaste Perfect Blend so it will be an interesting comparison. : )
@@melhenline8438 I used to use Sun Mills but found it too coarse so switched to Pamela’s before finding King Arthur. Both pretty similar but I find I am using the KA more frequently.
@@lindacotter9058 I ordered a book called "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook." They have their own flour blend but also recommend KA GF flour. It's a great cookbook. I made their pumpkin bread this evening. Turned out really nice!
It’s true that King Arthur flour gives me the beat results thank you company owners
Started baking Sourdough bread from sourdough starter from King Arthur in 2017. Bravo! Am about to dive into the Neopolitan Pizza! Yahooie!!!
Ive been using King Arthur bread flour for my bread sour dough baking for years, it's never let me down.
I’m excited to hear of a company that is as King Author, I will consider spending the extra next time I purchase flour.
I drive 45 miles one way to buy King Arthur flour. I don't want to bake with any other brand and the fact that the company is employee owned just seals the deal. I have contacted them with baking questions and the recipes online are top notch.
You can order it online in bulk from Amazon and probably other stores as well.
Love King Arthur!
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!! I'll never buy this flour again!!!!! Thank you for the REVEALING VIDEO!
I called there hotline to ask advice about making pizza. They were so nice!!
Yes 2020 Lockdown was time of Baking Bread 🥖 and the aroma made everyone fell happy and hot bread and butter 🧈 was healing fortifying body mind soul
Yes, if you could find yeast. I couldn't buy, beg, order or steal yeast for months. I ordered some from Amazon and it never arrived. I couldn't find anyone to get sourdough starter from. I was limited to recipes using baking soda and baking powder or those that used whipped egg whites for loft. I have plenty of yeast now!
I love how soft it is
King Arthur flour is THE best!!
KING ARTHUR is unbrominated, so I always try to buy KING ARTHUR flour. I have Whole wheat and All Purpose on hand right now.
My grandmother four of choice. It’s all she’d use!
Have used them for years...nothing better
I make homemade bread almost daily and used King Arthur's flour,it's very good, although a little bit more expensive than the usual brand of flour I use.
The only flour that I'll use... Consistent quality and it's employee owned. So, YES! It's worth any extra cost.
I use King Arthur exclusively. I know it's more expensive but I like the fact I'm supporting this employee owned company.
When I use to work QA flour was one of the things I needed to test. Huge trucks worth, tiny cup sample on top.
Frequently failed due to insects. Some would just grab another sample and most bugs are on bottom area and sometimes we'd find rats.
Always freeze your flour and spaghetti for 3-4 days to kill bugs and eggs
@@Neil-ht8fv
You're welcome. Just so you know, FDA allows a certain amount of insects in food. It's in all of our food basically. Organic is stricter and must be less amount of bugs vs nonorganic with incoming ingredients.
Candy items are big time with bugs
Oh please, this is nothing new, I heard this as a kid over 50 years ago. You boil pasta and bake/cook flour products. Have you ever licked the bowl from making cake batter? Who hasn't. For freshness I have always kept pasta products and my flours in the fridge.
@@jabbaa6500
Hey dumb dumb... The fridge doesn't kill insects, only the freezer does.
And most people are unaware of info I shared and I know a hell of lot working this industry since the 80's including biotech etc .
I bet you have no idea what ingredients actually are on food labels for humans and pets and vitamins.
Do you???
Because I certainly do!
@@shac9131 interesting. I am kind of a freak about this and I’m one of those “I wanna know but I don’t think I really want to know people.” I freeze my flour but never thought about freaking pasta. Dang!! Does that means cereals should be frozen too? What else??? I’m intrigued!
@@brandywine4000
It's not a bad idea. I've found insects, like a hundred in a stale candy bar once and there weren't any holes in the wrapper. I was a kid, my mom hid some candy so I didn't eat all at once. I raided her bedroom once. No I'm not fat or anything... I was addicted to chocolate back then. It was a 5th avenue type of candy bar.
Soak all produce in a sink. I like to use grapefruit extract sold for this. Tons of bugs in especially lettuce, head types of food. They can survive regular fridge temps.
Happy to know about this company and their products
We bake with yeast, King Arthur flour unbleached, bread flour.....is the best, thank you!!
I use King A flour, and it’s one of the Best !
When I was younger, they used to make King Arthur flour at the Wayside Grist Mill in Sudbury, Ma.
Only flour I will ever use. They are a superb company with top notch products.
cake flour is bleached with bromide gas, thats why its white.
we dropped king arthur in the 1970's due to ownership turmoil, they lost their commercial business and went into the home baker mkt. I find general mills flour to be very good, the rest is up to the baker.
The vast majority of specialty flours are not available to the public, they wouldn't know what theyre for anyway.
I was a dedicated KA flour user for as long as I can remember, not anymore! They have replaced Malted Barley flour with *enzymes. Fungal alpha amylase! No thank you, threw it out.
😂😂😂
Bobs Red Mill. And for biscuits. White Lilly self rising
I used to buy from King Arthur. After several orders were not shipped as promised or paid for, I no longer use them. If you do not have a need for their products in a timely fashion order from them, otherwise ...
WE NEED KING ARTHUR PLANT IN FRISCO TEXAS !!!! PLEASE COME, WE NEED THE JOBS HERE IN FRISCO, TEXAS !!!!!
There IS a difference, and King Arthur is the best. It costs more, but it's worth it for the high quality and consistency.
Love making homemade rye bread with their rye flour. Fantastic product!!!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the story it is the best
I user it 💚💛❤️
EBay had King Arthur Bread flour going for $31 during the peek of the pandemic shortages. (Shipping included)
I had no problem getting KA flour through any of the pandemic, so far. Luckily for me, few people know how to bake or cook. Pre packaged meals flew off the shelves, but we who know how to cook and this and that into a meal.
I love King Arthur products. I wish they had kept the old logo (sigh).
