Also seemed that an awful lot of Amiga games didn't have any in game music either as it seemed to be either music OR sound FX but not both running at the same time. A good list, and everything is personal taste, but it's missing some absolute blinders - Hired Guns (one of the few games which you could actually have 4 players on one machine), SWIV (not sure how you can have banshee, but not this one), project X, pinball dreams/fantasies, Lotus Turbo Esprit challenge 2, superfrog, alien breed, Eye of the beholder......and many more. SWOS at the top is fair enough - I can remember all the PC boys were absolutely desperate for that game, but the simple fact was that the PC couldn't handle the scrolling anywhere near as well as the amiga (only when things were on the verge of going over to 'Pentium' did it reach the speed of the Amiga - I had a 486 DX4 75Mhz laptop which was ok to play SWOS on, but the Amiga was still smoother). I would put speedball 2 as a very close second as that had a very special place in my gaming history. I met some of the bitmap brothers at an Earl's court computer show, after we had held a tournament in my home town (which they gracefully sent us some merchandise for, to offer as prizes). Many many years later, purely by chance, I was also picked out as a game tester for an attempt to do a 3D version of the game (on PC).........it was promising, but just didn't play very well. Really nice to see Wings on the list though - absolutely loved that game and it still stands out in my mind as one of the most complete gaming experiences of the time (the 3 different game modes, the snippets of story and history and not least the documentation that came in the box :-))

You’ve missed the 3D Robocop 3 game and Corporation off that list, both stone cold Amiga classics. Ooh forgot Gods and The Killing Game Show, so many great games.
Cool list, played and love most of the games on this list on other machines, couple never tried but look good, also never realised there was ever a sequel to Chaos Engine.
First of all great list all of this Games are killers no fillers. I formyself want to mention North & South, BC Kid, Populus (1&2), Civilisation, Sim City, Mad TV, Future Wars, some early Ultima Games, Eye of the Beholder, SWIV, maybe Bomberman (because it was a port and more a console game) Powermonger Apydia and Last Ninja III.
Ah thank you, the list could of went on forever there’s so many great games to choose from! Yes, N&S, civilisation, sim city, SWIV are all games I used to play a great deal. I should try LN3 as I’ve only played it on the C64! Powermonger, ah what a classic!!
@@Retro_B8 Correct! Your list is one of the best top 25 Amiga Games I know. But there are some other lists out there with also just exellent picks and a lot of other games, that are equally good. It´s so hard to say which are "the real best 25 Amiga games". Let´s say there are about 100 Amiga games that are absolut classics. Some of them belong for me in the list of the best 100 games of all time, but with the exception of Monkey Island, you wouldn't find them anywhere. Similar fate with a lot of games of the "Home-Computer-Era. So many classics, and just freaks like us remember them. LN3 was quite the same on the Amiga and the C=64, but of course the graphics were much better on the Amiga. A classic game nontheless.
Cant wait for the A500 mini. Great video, I'll be looking to add most of these as well as Desert Strike, Paperboy, Batman, Buggy Boy, New Zeland, Dizzy Adventures. The games just go on.
Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight and Wizball are 2 stone-cold classics that should have made the cut in my humble opinion. I mean Moonstone is one of the best looking and hands down the goriest game of its time mate - the Dark Souls of its day. Do yourself a favor lad and look up that one asap (its on my channel) Also, H.R. Giger worked on an adventure game called Darkseed which was amazing too. Nice video though - cheers.
Moonstone it 100% a game i must play, I don’t know how I missed it back in the day! Wizball, I love it now (more in the C64 due to nostalgia) but as a kid I didn’t have a clue what to do haha!! Going to sort my USB today so im definitely going to finally play moonstone, cool I’ll look at darkseed as well, cheers mate, always great to see recommendations!
Great choice of Amiga games! I played most of them back in the days and am looging foreward to do it again! Do you have a suggestion where best to find these games?
There’s literally hundreds missing, but I can only list 25 games I’ve played and I think other people may like. There’s going to be a part two comprising of all the suggested games, I’ll make sure to include these!
Loved Rastan Saga so Shadow of the Beast 1, which is even more awesome than Rastan arcade, is probably my all time fav game in joint 1st place with Lotus II. Never really liked any horizontal shmups, only played Nemesis, Salamander and Vulcan Venture and they never got converted. Lionheart and Soccer Kid are two really impressive A500 games too. Unreal dragon flying sections was a very awesome bit of Sega style 3D on Amiga 500 too. Speedball II and Battle Squadron were great 2 player games I played with my cousin. For A1200 Lotus III (which runs full speed unlike on A500 which is a bit lagger with max scenery) was my fav' game with Super Stardust.
Can you download or add more games to this Mini 500? there wasn't many I would of had back in the day that are on this list...except the top 3 which I had.
Yes 100%, you need a USB to put the downloaded games of your choice onto. If you go to the official site of the amiga500 mini there’s all the info and instructions how to do it!
Awesome video!👍 I am still waiting for my 500mini. 😩 I just installed the WHDLoad package on my USB Stick (plus tons of games and demos in the "THEA500-games" folder). Has "boot-data.zip" to be unzipped, too, or does it remain so? Thanks in advance!
Ah thanks mate, yeah I think they always have to be unzipped but just make sure it is an actual zip file, sometimes when a PC doesn’t recognise a file type it looks like a zip file. Well, mine does that for some reason anyway haha
As is typical, I LOVE Bitmap Brothers graphics. (and many of their game soundtracks...) That said, I hate the Megablast soundtrack! :D I know, I know, I guess everyone can skewer me now, (or later) for that comment. Here's the thing. I'm an absolute electronic music junkie. I've listened to, and made electronic and chip tunes since the 80s. I spent the 90s at raves and clubs. I've spent the last decade and a few odd years designing modular analog synthesizers. (you can see them in my channel if interested :D ) Love house, techno, industrial, breakbeat, acid, drum and bass, (especially real midwest or german techno though). I have just never been able to get into Megablast though, especially for an entire game. :D Now Chaos Engine, THAT is an electronic soundtrack. ;) Anyway... Nice video, and nice list!
Sensible soccer was at number one mate, wings is in there as well? Anyway, I couldn’t put both turricans in so the ones that you said are all class games, I definitely need to do an alternate 25 maybe! Loving the mini, it’s way better than I expected, glad we can okay added games though!
Yes I’d love a maxi version as Well mate! Superfrog was a straight choice between it and zool and I’d just played zool more although I do enjoy superfrog. Kid Chaos, I’ve never played it, but I feel I definitely should now!!
Great video, some games there I actually forgot about. My list would probably include, dogfight, shuttle. Is there a way to play these games on a modern pc?
Thanks man, some of my absolute favourite games ever! Yes I’m sure a pc will be able to run an emulator, the games are all abandonware I think as well so downloading roms shouldn’t be hard either!
@@Retro_B8 ahh yeah I thought that was the case. I'll be honest I did my own list ready for when the A500 mini comes out. I did 25 had to remove some as they were on it already.. ha. Then I did an extra 10 at the bottom on a separate list of others.. so many great games!

@@Retro_B8 hehe ok, then you've missed out on one of the greatest games ever made for the Amiga. I bought the A500 Mini yesterday and the first sideloaded game I installed was Pirates. I've got MANY hundred hours under my belt playing that game. :D

Your list is fine. My personal list is different, of course. I personally don't like Zool. For me it is too much like James Pond. Anyway , I like Rick Dangerous more. And for pure run and gun it is Turrican. And on my list there are several rpgs like Ultima 6 and Eye Of The Beholder 2.
Emulation with Raspberry Pi 400 are superior. Pi 400 have better hardware, better price too and don't forget I can run all workbenchs SO versions and programs too. I can run too all Amiga models like 500, 600, 2000, 3000, 1200 and run too all adf or whdload games.
They are, I simply can’t argue that however costing £70, the extra work needed to set it up, aesthetically it doesn’t fit in with anything I own versus ease of use, portability, the fact I won’t be using programs just simply playing games that all seem available via WHD (at least the ones I want to play) includes a lovely controller and a pretty cool mouse I think the A500mini is definitely the way for me to go personally but I can understand why it’s not for everyone.
@@Retro_B8 NO. I can understand why Pi 400 it's not for everyone, because need to know about linux and Amiga SO. So that's the real reason many people prefer TheAmiga 500, because are more user friendly. But are a big difference between this two hardware emulators, Pi 400 are superior in hardware and need experience users, TheAmiga it's for users don't know anything about linux or Amiga.
@@paulo-figueiredo exactly, for the average everyday gamer who’s after easy accessible Amiga action the mini is perfect. For true Amiga emulation that you can experiment and tinker with then is has to be in the Pi400 100% 👍🏻
Well..... seeing as some of the games you want to install is preinstalled, I just can't take this list too seriously. No less than 6 of your "must sideload" titles are preinstallrd, leaving you with a list of 19games. Of which I agreed with Frontier and Wings. Championship Manager at a stretch. So of the 25 games you listed, 16 have never interested me on a personal level. And who in their right mind ranks zool over superfrog anyways? All that aside, I am actually thrilled about TheA500Mini, though I am more likely to want to play with the 3D programmes than the games (once I can figure out how to whdload Imagine and Real3D and whatnot)
Hi Brynjar ah the power of hindsight. Unfortunately when I recorded this originally the list of games wasn’t known. I’m kinda happy I managed to guess six tbh, although I still feel we’ve missed out on some classics. Maybe I should rename the video to 19 games to side load and the rest you don’t have to haha! Unfortunately this isn’t definitive, I can only list from my own personal experience and as I’ve never played super frog it would in fact be pretty a reckless to put it in over a game I have played and enjoyed don’t you agree? It’s certainly on my list to play now of course! The closer it gets the more excited I am to see how well the A500 mini performs, personally I’ve not ordered one just yet as I’m happy using original hardware but I’m sure I’ll pis keep one up by the end of the year!
Ah man. I loved my 1200 but I always felt it tried to compete with consoles when actually it was games like Xcom, Dune 2, Walker, Syndicate, Sensi Soccer, Cannon Fodder or Monkey Island that made it special. It had it's own feel but tried to be something else. So many good games but so many horrible rips, zool being one.
Ahh you know what it is, music, I’m not saying that the music is bad in the games you list(which are great btw) but the xenon 2 music I’ve got so much nostalgia for. Absolutely love SWIV, especially in two player!
@@Retro_B8 Xenon 2 music is good in the intro, but the music in the game is really cut down, and sound effects cut the main melody. The best Xenon 2 version is CDTV version, it got more music and extras. I get the CD image file and make my own physical version.
One thing we can all agree is these are stone cold classic games and the Amiga is one of the greatest gaming machines ever made!

Now that is a list of games to play on the Amiga if I’ve ever an one. Epic man, we were spoiled for choice weren’t we back then mate!
uve finally cracked me, im gunna get one of these now
So many missed out Defender Of The Crown, Dune, Utopia, Detroit, Mega Lo Mania
Yes, that sound good mate. I was on the fence but yep, I broke as well and ordered mine haha
You’ve missed the 3D Robocop 3 game and Corporation off that list, both stone cold Amiga classics. Ooh forgot Gods and The Killing Game Show, so many great games.
Well done including Banshee. Amazing game, often overlooked.
Ah thanks mate, yeah it’s not long to go now only a few weeks!
So cool we can add our own games via USB!
@@Retro_B8 yes can't wait dude. Just hope it's an easy process to get the games and play them
@@darranparker3930 yeah I’m sure it will be, the maxi and mini works really well with usb support so fingers crossed they follow suit!
@@Retro_B8 I hope so mate. I can't wait to re live my childhood. I still say my best gaming years were those on the Amiga
@@darranparker3930 I can’t argue with that. The C64 is probably the most nostalgic to me but the Amiga just took it to the next level!
This is so awesome!
Thank you! Did you play the Amiga?
@@Retro_B8 Yes but not sure which one it was. I have to ask my brother. I mostly remember playing Lemmings. 😆
@@Retro_B8 I played more on Comendore 64. Just love the music of this games so much.
@@nemiQt a brilliant game, i still enjoy playing it today, good luck with the longest journey stream tomorrow. hoping to catch it
@@Retro_B8 it's now. 10 pm
Nice one :) .. I bet you enjoyed putting that together ... awesome work mate :)
Thanks Steve, was fun to put it together, the volumes were a challenge to get right, lessons learned for the next one!
great video! Rick Dangerous for sure in mine!
Ah thank you!! Yep there has to be a part two to this, Rick Dangerous is a great shout!!
Great choice of Amiga games! I played most of them back in the days and am looging foreward to do it again!
Do you have a suggestion where best to find these games?
Are you after originals or to emulate, there’s some excellent Amiga emulators out there that a basic pc can run
And glad you enjoyed the video!
I already have the Amiga mini and learned how to play roms on it. But some just do not run smoothley.
@luckyday3249 they’re doing a new update today I think to sort that, check out their website to hopefully update it mate
Heimdall? Shadow of the Beast? Mindwalker? 3 Stooges? Racter? Archon?
So many games missing here...!
You definitely know your stuff, great choices there.
Ah thanks mate, tbh I’ve discovered a few new games due to the A500mini now that may make it into the list now!
Thanks for watching
@@Retro_B8 Happy to join your gang (subscribers!)
@@Steve_UK77 ah cheers mate, are you into 8 bit at all? Oh I done a video called the essential top ten, one is on the Amiga
@@Retro_B8 Absolutely, I had a Vic20 and then upgraded to a C64 and then Amiga. I absolutely love Commodore content.
@@Steve_UK77 ah mate that’s almost my journey as well, I love my C64 and I’ve owned a few vics but the nostalgia just wasn’t there so moved them on!
What a list! Cant wait to get hold it and start adding!
Ah mate, so many games I left out, I might have to do another 25 haha
Nice video! Will need to check these out!
Ah thanks mate, some of my most favourite nostalgic games ever here!
Defender of the Crown, and Death Sword, were my favorites along with Speedball.
Hi... can you suggest a joystick compatible with amiga 500 mini?
I’m pretty sure the stick for the TheC64 works on the A500mini, the competition pro lookalike
Loved my Amigas. I had a 500 plus and a 1200.
Great list!
Awesome video!👍
I am still waiting for my 500mini. 😩
I just installed the WHDLoad package on my USB Stick (plus tons of games and demos in the "THEA500-games" folder).
Anyone know how to run Amiga on Emuelec ? I get the disk 1 threw 3 most if the time the games won't work .
Great list mate. I would have to add Rick Dangerous 1 and 2. Both Amiga classics
Ahh class games! Loved them on the C64 as well tbh. I think I need to list another 25 mate!!
I remember seeing a review of Frontier in Amiga Format, with the tagline: "Elite was pretty fronty. But Elite 2 is even Frontier!"
Hahaha, class game though. It’s always hard to show it in a video like this though as it’s just a game that you kinda immerse yourself into!
@@Retro_B8 It’s amazing to me that I have old Amiga games like Lemmings and Beneath a Steel sky on my phone.
How do you play them mate, on an emulator?
@@Retro_B8 No, they’re native iPhone ports.
Still, I do absolutely adore beneath a steel sky especially, I need it!
Missing a few classics for me. Barbarian, IK +, Sensible World of Soccer, Blood Money, Wings, Turrican to name a few. Still want one mind
Sensible soccer was at number one mate, wings is in there as well?
Anyway, I couldn’t put both turricans in so the ones that you said are all class games, I definitely need to do an alternate 25 maybe!
Loving the mini, it’s way better than I expected, glad we can okay added games though!
@@Retro_B8 LOL. Not sure what I was watching then. In fairness, watching Smokey and the Bandit at the same time 🤣.
@@wurzelm743 😂😂😂 what a class film though, hey I can’t compete with that man!!
Enjoy your film mate 👍🏻
@@Retro_B8 keep up the good work mate. 80’s gaming still the best
@@wurzelm743 thanks mate, it’s a fun hobby! Ah the 80’s man, love those memories
I'd add Hired Guns, IK+, Pinball Fantasies and Project X
I can’t argue any of those. In retrospect IK+ should definitely of been in there 100%, maybe time to do another 25!
Frontier elite ii was life
Oh wasn’t it just! Can you remember the cheat to get loads of money at the start?
Please check out my previous video on wether the A500mini is worth buying here ua-cam.com/video/bL0BK_Ma2H8/v-deo.html
@Rocky 3163 thanks mate, yep plenty of time to think of some great games!
Xenon II IT’S A MEGABLAAAAAAAASSSSSSSTTTTTT!!!!! Love the game and the music 🤟🏻
Class game, way understated I think!
Can’t wait for my preorder kinda hoping they are going to do a maxi version as well, 2 games missing for me are Superfrog and kid chaos
Yes I’d love a maxi version as Well mate!
Superfrog was a straight choice between it and zool and I’d just played zool more although I do enjoy superfrog.
Kid Chaos, I’ve never played it, but I feel I definitely should now!!
Well, Zool comes preinstalled so you should've gone with the better Superfrog ;)
Moonstone, Das Schwarze Auge ('Realms Of Arkania: Blade Of Destiny' in english), Space Crusade and Pirates are missing for me
Great video, some games there I actually forgot about. My list would probably include, dogfight, shuttle. Is there a way to play these games on a modern pc?
Thanks man, some of my absolute favourite games ever!
Yes I’m sure a pc will be able to run an emulator, the games are all abandonware I think as well so downloading roms shouldn’t be hard either!
love that comando music intro
I personally would include Carrier Command to the list.
love that comando comadre 64 intro music
Ahh it’s just the best man, love the original Rob Hubbard version but I love the updated one he’s done here as well. Master class
Side load Zool? It's one of the included games? It's a great game though so yeah worth a play! Worms is included too.
Aye there are a few, another world etc that are included as well mate, these will be pretty much the 25 I’ll be looking forward plating most I guess
@@Retro_B8 ahh yeah I thought that was the case. I'll be honest I did my own list ready for when the A500 mini comes out. I did 25 had to remove some as they were on it already.. ha. Then I did an extra 10 at the bottom on a separate list of others.. so many great games!
@@xcon3k I was gonna do the same here but I didn’t want to leave any of my favourites out, the included games are great but I wish it was these 25 on haha but of course that’s my personal opinion!

Why Pirates! is not on this list, is a complete mystery! XD
Ah that’s an easy one, I’d never played it! Well, I played a pirate version (no pun intended) the CD32 version on the A1200 but it didn’t quite run right.
Love it on the c64 though.
@@Retro_B8 hehe ok, then you've missed out on one of the greatest games ever made for the Amiga. I bought the A500 Mini yesterday and the first sideloaded game I installed was Pirates. I've got MANY hundred hours under my belt playing that game. :D

@@Retro_B8 thank you and I will, I've got 25 years of "not being in possession of an Amiga" to catch up with :D
@@Mesteren2 ah so much fun in store! I enjoyed a light of flight sim games especially gunship 2000 which has proved harder to play but if you load the CD32 version on the mini it’s not too bad once you get the hang of the controls
Maniac Mansion and Zach McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders
Ah two stone cold classics, for me they are in my C64 memories but I really should play them on the Amiga, it’s definitely on the to do list!
Hi Brynjar
ah the power of hindsight.
The closer it gets the more excited I am to see how well the A500 mini performs, personally I’ve not ordered one just yet as I’m happy using original hardware but I’m sure I’ll pis keep one up by the end of the year!
i think the amiga 500 maxi the amiga 12 mini cd32 mini will be out before we bloody get out of league one lol. SAFC till they drive me off the cliff.
Ah mate they’re in self destruct recently. Another year wasted in this league. Would love to see a CD32 Mini, that would be super cool!
Does Frontier run better on the Mini than the standard A500?
I’ve not played it yet but that’s a good shout, today’s task of definitely finding out!
100% list
Thanks man!
Don't get it - 7 of the games you mentioned are already on the A500!?!?
The video was originally released before the game list was known. I wasn’t expecting so many to make it in the system!
North and South
Ah what a superb game!!
Alien Breed, dude! No.1
I miss MegaLoMania on the list.
Sensible world of soccer.... level of addiction higher than original world of warcraft...
I would kick Xenon 2 off this list for Battle Squadron. Xenon 2 is quite pretty but has god awful controls.
Good games, but Xenon 2 is crap, 10fps shumup, c'mon, play Battle Squadron, Hybris, Swiv and Konami Knightmare, you will see really good ones.
Xenon 2 CDTV version does not work on CD32, only on CDTV or OCS/ECS machines.
Flood? By bullfrog...
There’s a bullfrog game in there!!
Lemmings is always #1. This rating system hates little green haired creatures :(
