No matter how strong he was, his lack of intelligence against Dirty Den got him sent to prison, and in this clip he was clearly outsmarted once again.
Such a shame they didn't meet at least one more time before Den died.
And an even bigger shame that we didn't get to see Grant vs Den
I know , especially as they were aware of each other’s existence
Or the shock on Nick Cottons face coming back to find Den still alive

I remember watching this aged 13 in 2003! I remember thinking if Phil could throw Den about with one arm, Grant could probably blow Den over!
Phil was an amateur compared to den. Too smart
Phil is hard but he’s nowhere near as smart as Den was. Den was the ultimate top dog of Albert Square.
The thing is tho Den was still hard even for his age but Den said he was to old for all that but Johnny Allen was hard for Phill eastenders was worth the time back then it was great its not anymore. Den was a legend and so was Johnny Allen

Young phil of early 90s would tear den watts of the late 80s a new one. Faster and much more of a scrapper. Phil became a bulked up (fat) mess from 99 onwards. Armed with plot armour and the ability to sound menacing and they created this dark side to him towards the end of the 90s

Phil may dominate the fight, but Den has the upper hand here. Tricking Phil into being knocked out. Positioning himself behind the bar, making it much harder for Phil to get to him, so they have to talk. Offering him money to call it quits, as the robbery set up came after months of the two of them being at loggerheads. Knowing Phil will absolutely take it if the alternative is going to prison.
And how does it end? Phil gets a punch in, but he's on the run and has lost everything. Yep, Den absolutely won this feud.

Didn’t Den also sleep with Sam during this feud? Sam sleeping with each of Phil’s 3 main nemeses from 2002-2003, Steve, Dennis and Den was funny.

Yeah I have often thought this. Phil kind of won and got the money he was going to get anyway from the robbery. Came back late 2005 all refreshed. Joke.

@@wizzgamer true tho in this instance the plot armour was mainly given to phil since Den and Dennis could have deffo overpowered him since he had a broken arm and was dirty as fuck so he likely hadn't rested given he'd been on the run from the police.
not to mention the fact that the writers had Dennis just take this punch from him when he's been perfectly willing to fight phil in the past tho the same can't be said vice versa.
really felt like this punch was put in because Steve McFadden threw a tantrum over Phil not getting to look the big man against Dennis yet.

Acting as corny as the wwf stools the lot. The sound effect when he hits den is funny too. Phil was the stone cold of the day used dirty tricks at any opportunity.
