We went "glamping" at the state rv park there. We saw some of the sculptures but more importantly, we went to visit the sculpture's work yard in a nearby city where he has his art work for sale. I bought a smaller table top size sculpture of a fisherman with a fish on his rod. If you have the means, he has some huge works for sale there too. Unfortunately, it was really windy when we camped there so the night skies were blurred by all the dust flying around. My absolute best night view of the stars and the Milky Way was at Jalama Beach. At about 2 a.m., the night sky was so clear it looked like a painted picture of the Milky Way.
The "traffic circle" is called "Christmas Circle". Dennis Avery made his money manufacturing and selling "Avery" Labels. BTW, Great Video, Josh, glad you're enjoying my old stomping grounds!😁
Thank you Josh! We always look forward to what you travel next around California. Your night photography are excellent and would love to see more in depth.
Thanks for the tip! My family and I went today! (2 hours from Carlsbad, CA) We even stayed into the night. You were right, that night sky was amazing!!
So amazing. My husband and I were there in may 2019 from Australia and we were so amazed at these sculptures. I didn’t realise there were so many. Thank you so much for your adventures. You have a beautiful country.
great job! i am a phidiographer myself too ... and i have to visit this place surely! btw, as of this moment 3 people who have clicked on the thumbs down button have no idea what they are doing in UA-cam i guess!? ;-)

Thanks so much for the comment. It is an amazing area at night, even without photos, you can see so many stars. I will work on a night photography video for sure
Thank you Josh. Love your videos. I've lived in So California almost 50 years and didn't know these statues existed. They are definitely going on my list to visit. Take care.
Great video!!! I went there last year twice and it was closed due to pandemic. Glad to know they’re open again. I’ll be back soon. Thanks for sharing this video 👍👍👍👍
You've shown the native animals from Ice Age California (giant sloths, camels, saber tooth tigers, early horses)... There are some Jurassic, too. I was flying very low and came upon a pair of giant T-rex fighting in the middle of the desert. Magnificent!
Great video! Didn't know about all of the sculptures in this area. We really like the jeep sculpture the best! The night time photography was awesome! Definitely would like to see more in another video. 👍
I happened upon your videos as I travel vicariously through UA-cam. I've felt that I belong in California since I was four years old and saw episodes of I Love Lucy where they moved there. Even then I was like, "what?! " heheheh. I've always wanted to go there. I live in the NE and between the pandemic and our last few weeks of single digit weather, am feeling truly shut in. (Other than some quick walks with Kota the wonder dog). I hope to make it to California eventually and your videos are very informative. Thanks for sharing!
Another great video; as we've come to expect from you. I've been to these sculptures a few times and never noticed the number tags, so thanks for pointing that out. I'll start keeping a list on my next visit. It's really remarkable that someone went to the expense and effort to provide publicly accessible art for us to behold and enjoy.
what an amazing video..! I have been wanted to go visit the sculptures but now after watching your video I'm absolutely going..!! how long did it take you to drive visiting all sculptures? I want to plan just a perfect time to watch the sunset and see the stars at night time... thanks for sharing this amazing video..! Good job.! I truly enjoyed it.!
Fantastic, been thinking about doing this as a day trip from OC but didn't know if there were facilities to use like bathroom etc. Now that I have seen the night shots, I am thinking about 2 days, definitely a weekend getaway sort of deal, probably when the wild flowers bloom! As always great video, always helping fellow Californians check out the good places.
It is a great place to go when the wildflowers are blooming for sure. There are a few restaurants and even a couple hotels in Borrego Springs if you stay over night.
Yes, the sculptures are really spread out through the desert, north and south of the city of Borrego Springs. All of the sculptures are probably within a 10 minute drive to the traffic circle in town. It's a small town, but they have two grocery stores, and several restaurants, hotels, a small mall, etc. Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort was a cool place to stay. The hotel has an older western facade and the RV camp in the back has vintage Airstream trailers you can rent for the night with a BBQ and propane fire pit on the covered outdoor patio area. We just did a quick trip to the grocery store and made dinner and breakfast on our BBQ. Very cool place to stay.
Thanks for sharing this! When we were out in the Indio area in November, I had hoped to come out to see the sculptures but we ran out of time. Hopefully next time. I’d love to see a video on night photography.
Sounds like a fun trip. The comment about Carlsbad Caverns is also a great suggestion. Plus there is a lot more to do when you are in Southern California
I have been to the Galleta Meadows and saw some of the sculptures before but I had no idea that there was 130+ statues! I would love to know more about night photography and plan to go back to this spot. Btw, I highly recommend going during March when the wildflowers are in bloom - gives another layer of wonder as you gaze at the statues.
We were there in November. The sculptures are great. The artist has a place in Temecula with hundreds maybe thousands of sculptures. We bought a couple of ants for like $10.
Saw this in my monthly AAA magazine and already planning a trip down there this spring. Also gonna hike "The Slot." Have you ever done that one in Anza-Borrego, Josh?
I was just there a few weeks ago. Great place to go if you want to avoid other humans. The sculptures are all spread out and people good at distancing and waiting their turn.
Ty so much,I saw this in the OC Magazine but haven’t gotten there yet! I will and there’s also man sculpture also along the way that look like Power Rangers! Want to see that as well! Always enjoy your adventures! Keep em comin✌️

Sculptures brought back memory of when I was there-good job. The park offers a lot of variety. We rode bike too. I made a video on the park. Search UA-cam with my name & the park name. There wasn’t as many sculptures when I was there.
Your photography is amazing, and the few night shots here were fantastic! If you do a video of night shots, maybe a tutorial on how you did it? I think Desert Tower is out there somewhere, I hear the rock carvings are good there.
Super cool place. We have a sculpture park in a farm field about an hour from my house but it has a lot more abstract pieces. Would love to learn more about night time photography. The Hubs is very into astronomy so I could take photos while he looks at blurry smudges in his telescope 😉
Looks like those last ones were extinct animals like dinosaurs snd mammoths etc. very cool. I’ve been wanting to go there for a number of years. I’m hoping soon. I miss being in the road exploring CA

When was this filmed? I would like to go in the next few weeks now that places are opening back up. Also, are there any restaurants you recommend for dinner?
I don't know when he filmed it, but this is a good time of year to go as you won't bake your brains out like in the summer. There are a couple of decent restaurants in Borrego Springs Carlee's and Pablito's. You'd have to call to see what dining they offer as that changes due to the idiocy of Newscum.
I filmed this like 2 weeks ago. There are a few restaurants in town. All the seating was closed but I got a burrito from the Mexican food place and ate it in my car.
Come on, you could have made it out to the T-Rex just in the nick of time :-) I'm surprised the ones at the north side were open. A lot of them were closed off when we were there in fall.
