Thanks for the useful tips on how to choose coffee beans! Just for the record, Lavazza is pronounced as "Lavatsa". In Italian, any time you see two ZZs you pronounce them as TS, the same way you would pronounce "Pizza."

Thanks for watching all our videos folks! You're the best!
I'm grateful for your work. Thank you. I've been using Lavazza Italian Espresso medium roast. It's awesome, but I wanted a variety too. This helped ❤
Thanks you both. This was so helpful and simply explained which needed.
Our pleasure!
Thanks! This is helpful.
How about medium-dark roast with some oil on the beans? About 1/5 the bean surface.
Hello, thank you very much, could you please recommend coffee beans compatible with Saeco Pico Baristo? Thanks!
Gail, Great video! Can I use Lavazza's Gran Crema in my Philips 4300 super automatic espresso machine? I understand I can use the Super Crema, but Gran Crema appears to be a different coffee. It is a blend of robust and arabica but is a " medium dark" roast. Thank you.
Me being clueless I bought starbursts espresso roast . It was a bag of mostly oil and a few means lol
I like dark, robust coffee. I'm not a big fan of medium roasts. Anyone, what is the best tasting, dark roast that I can safely use in my Philips 4300 Super-automatic? Thanking all in advance.
I'm back for GAIL!!!!! I sure hope you are doing well, healthy and happy Gail! Happy New Year 2024!!
Question for Gail. Which decaf coffee would you recommend for my Delonghi Eletta? The light roast at my local supermarket seems fairly dark and has a bit of oil. Not as much as the dark roasts but they're not entirely dry.
I have same problem.....
I have a question for Gail. Can you use Grindz on a semi-automatic with a built-in grinder like the Breville Oracle?
You sure can! The issue with a superauto is that the grindz go into the brew chamber. Take a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/qwoB3OR2krY/v-deo.html
This might explain why my Delonghi Perfecta doesn't work like it used to. Is there any way to clean the grinder on a superautomatic?
Take it to a service center the maker has to be taken apart to clean the grinder.
what is Lavazza best beans for latte? i use the super crema for MANY years. i thought to try a different one IF there is a better one
Is it Ok to use Lavazza crema e gusto classico for superautomatic?
Hi Gail, I find it so difficult to find good beans for superautomatic and here's why: From what I learned from my research is that a lighter roast should be brewed at higher temperature like 95 to 105. For darker roast they should be brewed at a lower temperature like 91. As for my Saeco Intelia, The maximum temperature I can get is 85... So when I use medium or light roast, I get a sour or bitter taste and I use a really good coffee (Social Coffee People's Liberation). On the other side, I have a friend who used to brew Koffee Kult Dark Roast in is super automatic and it taste much better... Well at least it is not as bitter... The thing is that it is too oily for the machine... So my conclusion is that I should never have bought a superautomatic machine haha... But please convince me that I'm wrong! :P
They are a bit picky. But check out our Superauto Recommended coffees: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/coffee-tea/shop-by-roaster?superauto_recommended=Yes
How would you know if the beans are oily when buying? if they are in a bag like the one shown in the video, you can't see the beans prior to buying.
You try it once and if it dosent work dont but it again. Alternatively go to a coffee bean supplier/roaster where u can see the beans in a container and tell em to pack some up for you! Fresher and you get to choose the beans as it is instead of looking at the packaging and guessing.
Is the Lavazza Caffé Espresso okay?
Hi I've recently purchased a Miele CM6150 after watching one of your reviews. I've only used illy classic roast coffee beans but I'm thinking of trying Lavazza Cafe Espresso coffee beans would these be ok for my coffee machine?
Can I grind oily beans in a separate grinder and use them in bypass ? I have a Jura impressa
That is a great solution for using oily beans and will definitely prolong the life of your grinder and machine!
Thanks for helping me.
So... It's just a grinder thing on superautomatics? Can I safely use oily beans or dark roast on a Saeco Poemia? Thanks!
A superautomatic grinder is very difficult to clean. Which is why we don't recommend them for superautos. If you like to drink a dark roast with oils, a stand alone grinder would be the way to go. Don't forget to clean that too!
Wouldn't grindz clean it out if you use an oily been?
Don't use Grindz in a Superautomatic as the machine will start brewing and when Grindz get wet they will expand and can ruin the brew unit. You could use darker beans and turn the grinder to the coarsest setting but the machine will then have to be taken into a service center 2-3 times or more every year as the grinder can only be cleaned by taking the machine apart.
Gail, can you name the beans in order from your left to right starting with the darkest to lightest. Thanks, looking for the name of the lightest colored bean. Having an issue with my saeco auto model hd8838 where it grinds the bean and then dumps it out with a no bean error, not sure why that is happening I have cleaned the machine to its fullest, even replaced the grinder ceramic disks. Currently I have been using lavazza super creme brand for years.
Hey I’ve just got my bean to cup. Any ideas on a light Lavazza roast?

knoc door Thanks!
Gail I got the lavazza super crema after your recommendation but they are oily beans even more oily than Starbucks ( pike place, house blend and Ethiopia, Colombia narino)
I have Delonghi prima Donna elite machine
My question is can I use the Starbucks beans that I mentioned?
No. Oil is oil. Despite her check of approval, beans will release oil over time and if improperly stored. So your super crema may have once been fine, then over a bit of time released oil.
Just saying, my dad has had a saeco superautomatic for going on 10 years now and has pretty much exclusively used oily dark roast espresso beans without any sort of problem. In principle i agree that oily beans are not the best thing for the maintancence of the grinder in a machine, but to those who like italian/ french roasts, i don't think the negatives (i.e clogging/build up) will have as big of an effect as these guys are making it seem.
You're not using super oily/black beans then... if you were your grinder would be toast.
@@Satine_Moisant I only drink dark roast on my jura used kicking horse mainly no issues so far. over 7 years.
I understand lavazza makes great beans. How do they compare to beans of decent quality but mediocrely roasted at home? Fresh roasted beans from local roasters are just too expensive
Lavazza is a great choice for the consistency and price. We can't speak to how they would compare to what you are roasting at home. Maybe do you own taste test and see what you like best!
best expresso grinder for a cheap price? All the ones ive seen are 100 or above.
Check the Bodum Bistro, it's the best for it's buck in my opinion
Using oily beans in your machine will ruin it. Trust me, I and many others have learned from experience.
The oils on the outside of the bean Stick to the burr?.... but when you grind them the oil comes out anyways. I'm sorry but b.s is b.s who cares!
Good luck with that logic... an oily, burnt over-roasted bean will sieze your grinder. You have to send the whole machine in then.
Please don't laugh. I just liked seeing the different colors of roasts and the shines they had. Sigh. I could almost smell the beans.
Throw them away.
Just don't use super automatics simple as that...
Lavazza beans?? Seriously?? No. Just no.
They're kinda overpriced but if you can get them cheap at costco they are actually pretty nice.
+Sam's Tech Lavazza signs outside a cafe are a warning sign not to go there for coffee...
+Nige Reviews Partially agree. It's definitely an upgrade from charcoal-like coffee like Starbucks and most non-specialty coffee shops. Though indeed not as good as local small specialty roasters.
