Elantris | Before You Read

- If you’re a budding Sanderson fan, you may or may not have heard of his standalone novels within the cosmere. I covered Warbreaker already, but I have yet to do so for his other notable standalone, Elantris. This video seeks to remedy that.

i started elantris today, my first sanderson book ever. so far i enjoy it a lot and cant wait to read the rest of cosmere
You're in for a crazy journey :) I recommend Mistborn next
I hope you've read Warbreaker.
@@whutzat why
Prologue: 😌
First Five Mins: 🧟♂️😱
Elantris was my first Sanderson book and I was really impressed on the world, characters especially Raoden, story and the magic system which i was expecting to be more explored.
I have read the final empire aswel and i like Kelsier as much as Raoden.
Elantris was honestly better than the Final Empire in my opinion. Not as action packed but the themes and the story itself made me think a lot more than Mistborn.
Really? That's definitely not a common opinion amongst the fandom
@@RavensRantsYeah! I've only recently gotten into the Sanderson fandom and have only read three of the cosmere so far (Final Empire, Elantris, The Way of Kings, in that order). I thought Elantris was actually my favourite of the three (but I hadn't finished tWoK yet lol, that one's my favourite book now). I know it has a few flaws and some of the set up doesn't fully pay off, but idk it just spoke to me in a way that the first Mistborn didn't.
When I read it, I got the sense of despair and hopelessness a lot better than I did in The Final Empire and even in the Way of Kings (until a bit further into it). Sanderson likes to start off in a terrible hopeless situation and build up hope from it and I think Elantris really made me more hopeful than in Mistborn book 1. I also feel like the theme of Faith is a lot better developed in Elantris compared to both those other ones and I think this theme really resonated with me the most.
I also cared about the supporting cast a lot more in Elantris than in Mistborn (that might change on Well of Ascension but I still have to read that), and I truly enjoyed all the different interactions. I did think the love story on both was equally good though! Quite like how Sanderson handles romance so far.
But yeah don't get me wrong, both are 5/5 stars, I just see myself going back to Elantris much sooner than to Final Empire
@@e443productions9 Tip: Read Warbreaker (standalone novel) before you read the second Stormlight book (Words of Radiance). Trust me, you'll thank me afterwards.
@@RavensRants Sure thing! I'm planning on reading Mistborn books 2 and 3 then Warbreaker then Words of Radiance or maybe slip Warbreaker in between Mistborn 2 and 3 depending on how I feel about the Well of Ascension's ending. Would you recommend that order?
I'd say you're on a very good track. Keep with that plan and you're good 👍🏻
Currently reading Elantris and couldn't resist gettinh here
Enjoy the book!
Did you read it ? Have you read any other cosmere books ? 😁
I am finally reading elantris, and I’m finding the pace delightful, the characters compelling, and the story absorbing.
Thanks for this. Elantris is the first book I'm trying and this has helped with some of the pronunciations. My husband has been trying to get me into Sanderson forever and the couple titles I've tried lost me really fast and I got frustrated. The plot for this one caught my eye so I'm giving it a go. I hope I can finish it, I would really like to read his works.
If you haven't yet, I recommend trying Mistborn or one of the short stories he's written
@@RavensRants thanks! I'm probably going to try Mistborn next! So far I like this book, and I figure if nothing else I might try a graphic audio next. It seems to be all the special pronunciations and rules for words that kind of pull me out of the story, but I used to read a lot of fantasy and I'm hoping I'll get used to it again.
I feel like everyone is doing an Elantris re-read right now. I just restarted it and this is like the 10th reference to the book I've seen on several social media.
Lol Elantris is a dope book
yep
I just started the audiobook! It is my first Sanderson book.
Can't go wrong with any Sanderson book! The man creates some of the most compelling and engrossing characters in literature, I read Elantris years ago and just ran across it again to my delight! Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it!
Thanks for the vid, time to read the books now.
I started Elantris today. I had tried Warbreaker and Mistborn before but could not read past 3 pages. But this one pulled me in just on the first page.
So Elantris and The Stormlight Archive both focus on three protagonists?
Elantris yes. Stormlight has a wide cast
@@kevin424co cool. I’ve started out with Mistborn.
this is a bad before you read you say to much that is discovered in the book
I would say that your thumbnail is spoilerish but saying so would be really spoilerific. So if you haven’t read Elantris, disregard that comment.
Shhhhh the normies will never know ;)
Why would you even post this, put spoiler warning at beginning not end
