In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with getting a salaried job right after you turn 18. There is nothing wrong with deciding that college is absolutely too expensive for you.

Completely agree. An 18 year old does not know what skills they have or what is required in the workplace. After working they may discover their talent and then how to develop that talent and acquire necessary skills or credentials. Then if they do attend college or a trade school they will be highly motivated. So sad to see young people graduating college with debt and no true workplace skills.

As someone who did not go to college until much later in life I have to disagree a bit. The longer you put off going to higher education the harder it is when you do finally enroll. A lot of stuff I had forgotten and had to take refresher courses because I hadn't thought of that stuff in years. Like those old math principals and formulas I learned in high school and had to relearn to take courses like college algebra. And those refresher courses cost more time and money to add to the whole college experience.
Also there's the problem of having to go back when life has hit you with other responsibilities, such as having to raise or support children or helping to care for an aging parent. Ànd then there is the issue of lost possible wages in one's lifetime. If your earning potential is greatly increased with a degree than without one, then for every year you put off going back there's that much less that you'll potentially make in your limited lifespan. All the more reason to get your degree sooner than later if one of your life goals is to start a family. And then there is the increased difficulty of trying to obtain scholarships or grants which greatly dries up once you hit age 25 I believe.
You can postpone college entrance a little without risking too much of a downside. Like maybe a couple of years or so. But waiting to enroll in your 30s or 40s I would recommend against if at all possible.

japan's biggest problem is excessive work hours. they need to pass laws outlawing requiring people to work more than 40 hours. this would mean companies need more employees not less. it would help the situation in that men would have more time to spend with their family which could cut the divorce rate as well.

The Japanese government mindset appears to be stuck somewhere back in the Shōwa era, I think. If it is to seriously address concerns about having an aging, shrinking population, it needs to overhaul its approach towards everything - social care provision, higher education funding, childcare provision, financial support, affordable housing and job creation, increasing training and retraining opportunities, addressing antiquated biases in the work environment, tackle and destigmatise poverty, homelessness and mental health issues.

Sad to see still many places won't hire these young ladies out of college for fear they will leave once they start families. Just today I saw at least three companies in Japan- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Toyota, and Panasonic, are actively searching out women from universities, and are offering scholarships to those in the 'STEM' fields to work for them. They will offer much more than most women can get today in terms of money, at the very least. We can only hope this is a start to a better life for the ladies of your great nation.

The Sugar Daddy market is common throughout the West too, including in Australia where international students are faced with very expensive fees upfront. It is common for Asian students including Japanese to work in the sex industry here.
Australian students receive interest free loans that do not have to be paid back until they start working. That does not stop them working in the sex industry to cover their rent and other expenses.

The problem is that most Japanese companies, and Japanese society in general, are male-dominated. Women are expected to leave university, work a few years as an OL to find a suitable partner, then quit work to marry and become a housewife and mother. If they don't get married and want to continue their career, there is a very low glass ceiling that limits their work progression, and often find it difficult to even land a permanent job, no matter how qualified they are.
The smart ones end up learning another language and leaving Japan altogether for another country as they see no hope for them in Japan besides becoming a housewife.
All this is of course adding to Japan's demographic problems as those well-educated young women and their future children are forever lost to Japan.

First off, the problem, as you alluded, is the Universities.
Education has become a business, and student's should be able to claim a tax rebate, on their investment (the education) as equipment, which happens to devalue incredibly fast, there days.
Companies should be paying much more, for the educated people. If a degree is needed for a job, than a degree level pay, should be a minimum.
Someone has to build or fix the house, car, road, grow food, deliver goods, etc. A degree isn't needed for important jobs, that keep the wheels of society rolling smoothly.
I would prefer to pay for a umbrella, than pay someone to tell me, how good I look, wet. The world needs more builders, and less ego massage therapists.

The solution I think is simply to leave Tokyo and live somewhere a little more rural, since Tokyo is expensive and overpopulated, and it's also difficult to find work, Japan is full of places where they even give you a free house if you go to live there since many places are remaining empty, but the problem is that everyone wants to live in Tokyo, I heard that the Japanese government had even promised to give money to anyone who decided to leave the capital

A couple of misconceptions: they don't give you a free house, you still have to pay for the house even if it's at a cheaper price. Likewise, a lot of those homes were abandoned for a long time and need extensive repairs. Look up akiya homes (the so-called "free" homes) and you will see videos or articles talking about the repairs that the new owners need to do. Now, these people who bought the homes and need to renovate the homes did that with their eyes wide open and already knew they would have to pay for almost 100K or more in repairs and that it would take years of fixing it up, even if the akiya home wasn't particularly big. So, really, the prices of the "free" akiya home (and all it's necessary renovations in order to make it habitable) and that of a new home about break even, sometimes even coming out cheaper for the new home/apartment since you don't have to add a cistern/plumbing system to it.
If these women are having a hard time breaking even with rent and other necessities (never mind taking care of a kid), they sure as hell are not going to have the dosh to pay for all of the renovations an akiya needs even with loans and mortgages.
Likewise, while it's difficult to find work in Tokyo, it's even harder when you got into the suburbs or, worse, in rural areas. Yeah, it's cheaper there, but because there's almost no jobs there. And, keep in mind that the more rural the place is, the more stock they put into appearances. If you think it's hard for a single mother to find work in a city due to sexist misconceptions about mothers and working, imagine how much harder it would be to find a job there if they see you as a "floozy" or as "a bad wife, no wonder your husband doesn't send you money" (yes, I've seen these sorts of assholes and it wouldn't surprise me if Japan has these assholes as well).
If the Japanese government really does want to fix this problem, it's going to have to stop sending all that welfare money to the already well-off elderly and start sending it to the people who need it.

However, I think you may be using the word "scholarship" wrong in some places. Scholarships are when a business or charitable organization gives money to a student for use in their education, because of their past performance or because they meet some particular criteria. Scholarship money does not need to be repaid, so it is not a debt.
The debts you are referring to are typically referred to as "student loans", which are different from "scholarships" (gifts).

I knew the living in Japan and studying is expensive from personal research. I was looking for a Master or a simple course I could take there but after finding out the details, it seems like a wishful dream. I also made some research about why in Japan there is an increase of people who commit suicide because of the high workload & less pay which make dating and making a family impossible. Thanks to you, I understand a bit more about these circumstances as well, though I think it would have been pretty clear how things are if I thought some more about the discrepancies between full time and part time worker.
