very important note. Top dampers are not aloud in the states if the appliance is gas or has a gas start.
If it does, technically by code. The damper should be affixed to a permanently open position. Even if there isnt a continuous pilot running.

Gotta love when they put the return right next to the fireplace, so if you try to use the furnace when you go to bed, it pulls the smoke out of the fireplace... beauty

Nice, but rhe use of this handle type will cause build-up of creosote in the chimney. An open Fireplaces should never be choked up to help the flame can be regulated
