    In the early scene at the gym, where they are told about the house and the main character first says "we are good people", the guy doesnt respond that its not about that, he says something like "we are not the one you need to convince", which is a huge forshadowing in the aftermath. This and the fact that the witch was killed with the knife also makes me think that the witch wasnt really there and it was more in their own minds, a manifestation of their guilt they are facing. Boe tried killing himself after breaking down in the realization of what he really did and wanted his wife to be able to move on. Her in the hallway, rejecting the kids hand, symbolized that shes letting go of the past and is finally able to move on which gives her the strength to kill her and her husbands guilt. Her killing the witch was a metaphor for rescuing her husband from suicide and in the end they both learn to deal with the ghosts that will always live in their minds. At least thats how i decided to take it, i really enjoyed that the movie didnt rely on cheap scares but gives you something to think about and also leaves you unsure weather there is really something supernatural or not 🙂

That bus was there to take people to a safer town, not to take them to another country (we see this when they get off in the new town and catch a different ride). And even if it was, again, the mother has no clue what happened to her daughter. She couldn’t keep her safe. Strangers wouldn’t have her daughter’s best interest. Ex: Her mother would’ve tried to save her when she was struggling to stay above water. Although the main woman tried to help, it’s her husband who pulls her away. Showing that she is not a priority and is disposable whereas her mother would always prioritize her life.

It was a Christian camp and once a year people from America usually show up, there was one group who literally refused to do anything like wash dishes and stuff and thus it created tension with other campers. They were rude and loud and then things went bad. We asked the Americans to take some stuff to a storeroom , they were rude then a friend of mine turned and started speaking to me in Tswana which is our native tongue to pick up the things that they refused to pick up and the group of Americans were like don't you speak that little pathetic language to us. Lol it really baffled me because we weren't even talking to them or talking about them and they were African American so you would assume they would be nicer.

  • @jilliancrawford7577
    @jilliancrawford7577 4 роки тому +20

    I really like the whole "the ghosts will never leave" bit. So many ghost stories will have the spirit vanquished or exorcised, ultimately being "resolved" when in reality sometimes the only option is to come to peace with a permanent burden. In a way, this humanizes the ghosts much more than stories that completely get rid of the spirit as if they're always things that need to just be thrown away and I appreciate that!
    I was kind of expecting the old lady neighbor to have had a bigger role, but I'm glad this was a better twist. I was expecting the old lady to have maybe found a way to put on some kind of shaman curse on the property to scare away foreigners seeking asylum or something and have it be some kind of moral of who the real savages or who the real monsters are or something. Again, I like that my guess wasn't right and the ghosts were a far more satisfying ending.

    Horror movies where the ghost/demon/bad thing is tied into the characters’ backstories are the best types of horror movies. A lot of worse horror movies have characters who happened to accidentally walk into a haunted house or something and tend not to reflect on who the characters are as people. Good movie.

    I have such complicated feelings for the couple. They stole a kid, but they did it to survive and did want to give the kid a good life and did seem to care for her. It doesn't make what they did ok, but damn you can't say for sure you wouldn't do the same thing in their desperate situation. they obviously hate themselves for what they did and are willing to accept the consequences. I can't help but root for them but also want to see them punished for what they did. By the end, I think we got that.
