    My first pit. I still have all my checks on my car / house keys. And use my old number as my art logo. Many many wonderful memories along with one totally heart breaking one and of course the closure of the pit and the destruction of the industry. Now look at the shit we're in in 2022. Who'd had thought it ? R.I.P. Magsy a gentle giant. I should do my own youtube channel with stories of all the funny and sad stuff of my mining life ! 👍563

    You are Koepe spot on my friend, we had one at Brodsworth colliery in Doncaster s, yorkshire.

    I worked at grimethorpe pit sth yorks and a got privelidge to look at the copey winder it wor brill winders are a rare breed polish brass & keep place spotless

    Thank you for keeping the memory of the great coal mining history in Britain.
    If I am not mistaken "friction winding" is known as the "Koepe system" in Germany. I often wondered why this system was so common in Germany but relatively rare in England. I think that Clipstone is one of the few examples of still existing friction winders in England.

      Harald Finster, Koepe System was also common in France as you know..
      You are a famous photographer ( like Becher )..!

      Am sure kellingley colliery ay koepe windin network and rumours say that winder from grimey went to south africa but who knows sad days ????

      Yes the original mine owners built the village my dad lived on north street and got family that still live there
