Terry Funk didn’t go to ECW to put himself over he went there to put other guys over and how many legends from back then did that most guys in that position want to be the top guy till they drop - Raven
Basically he was the anti-Hulk Hogan.
He went to get paid
Terry went for a job. He was older and most companies at the time weren't offering him steady work. That's why he along with many other older and younger wrestlers went to ECW - for work. Was Terry a nice guy? Sure. Did he put over younger talent? Yes. Was that the reason why he went top ECW? No. You're a mark if you think he did it solely to put younger talent over. Is the ECW kool-aid ever going to dry up?
I met Terry once at a book signing and what an awesome man he was to everyone in that line, he let me take a pic and put me in a side headlock. I'll always remember that.
Terry ! Terry ! Terry ! Terry !
Thts so awesome!! I met Foley and Earl Hebner and got autographs too but it would've been awesome to meet him too
Haha that's awesome. I went to Mick Foley's comedy show once and afterwards he signed autographs and my friend Nancy asked him if she could put him in a headlock for the picture and he said "yes". Haha so she put him in a headlock....well it was more of a sleeper hold and Foley even made a face like he was in a hold. It was awesome. Wish i would have thought of that haha. She didn't tell me she was going to ask him. Then there's my pic with him. Just me with a sh*t eatin grin haha. Mick gave the thumbs up in our photo at least.
@@mikeawesome9212 awesome!! Id love to go to one of his comedy shows
I met Dory Funk Jr at an independent show in south GA about 15 years ago. Very cool dude. After his match he was hanging out in the crowd and I just happened to be standing next to him.
Very cool, down to earth guy. Loved talking about the business and how talented the guys he was working with that night were. Some of them were still pretty green but they had promise.
Terry Funk deserves so much more consideration as the best ever. To work in the 70's, 80's and 90's at high-level, work different styles and be over in multiple countries, you could call Terry the GOAT and I would have no problem with it.
Terry Funk is everything good about the wrestling industry. Living legend gets thrown around but Terry is the true living legend.
His raw in ring work alone would make him a bona fide legend, but if you ask me his real legacy is how he kept helping the next gen get rolling when so many other legends just kept holding onto the torch with no consideration. "Oh, I can do something special with him...." was a frequent thing he said.
@@MarquisLeary34 Yup he tried to get Eddie Guerrero a job with WCW in 1989. If you had more veterans like Funk, the industry would be in a better position.
Nothing makes you feel older than watching your heroes slowly begin to fade away.
Unfortunately true
New jack a few months ago, sad to see legends getting old .
Father Time and Mother Nature do no jobs.
Tommy Dreamer is saying he is ok, But we all know what Dementia does to people it only gets worse with time
True.....just look at Joe Biden.
@@dave09gla we are all fucked
@Polvo Viletti really?
His Nephew Rob Kellum aka The Stro Maestro of Wrestling asked on Facebook to keep his Uncle Terry Funk in our prayers
It is sad. My mother suffered from dementia and it’s sad to see. You just have to do your best to make sure they are comfortable, well taken care of and in a safe environment.
"FOREVER, FOREVER, FOREVER" - Terry Funk
For funk to win the ECW championship at Barely Legal 1997 was emotional
Universally loved in the wrestling business should come with its own award.
Only him Kane and Taker are the ones I can think of off the top of my head
Mick Foley
Being Terry Funk should come with its own award.
They should call it the "Terry" and he and Mick should be the first winners.
Followed by Taker
Flair.
Cornette's impressions of Terry Funk, Dusty, Rhodes, Vince McMahon & Ernie Ladd are ALWAYS spot on.😁
Bruce Prichard's impressions are better
Bruce's impression of Cornette's "Fucking Motherfuckers!" is hilarious.😂😆🤣

@@beyondbeleef1013 do u think terry funk will die?

Even though I didn't grow up on classic Terry Funk, he was around in the mid to late 2000's, so I did get to see Funk on both WWE and TNA television growing up technically, so yeah, he was a part of a large group of people's childhood when you think about it.

I always liked the harmonica theme they used for him in WCW with the feud with Flair. Funks promos on Flair were awesome
My Uncle loved him and his brother Dory Funk Jr. in the '70s, still remembers them. Poor Terry, such a legend.
WWE Should reach out to Terry , House this LEGEND in the best Care home money can buy .

@@Ability-King-KK What proof do you have that they do not care?
@@darryllmcgee Them not offering to do anything.
He's barely been a WWE performer. It would be highly unreasonable to ask them to pay for it just because he was a part of WWE for a combined 2-3 years across 3+ different stints spread through multiple decades.
I was at ECW Arena for Funk vs Sabu barbed wire match. Terry Funk is a living legend. One of the greatest of all time. I will never forget that match. Its burned in my head.
One my first wrestling memories as a kid was seeing Funk break Ric Flair in half with a pile driver outside the ring.
Mine too.
An assisted living home is a good place for Terry at this stage in his life and his health. He's with medical and mental health professionals who can keep him as comfortable and balanced as possible. I hope his family and friends visit him as often as possible.
Yeah the poor guy can barely walk
Assisted living isn't bad at all. usually only 2-3 people there at a time getting care.
Terry Funk, one of the all-time GOATS!
That's a new title we need just for Terry Funk. The All Time Greatest of All Time.
Terry funks is one of the greatest of all time wishing him good health and happiness
It saddens me greatly, but I really don't think that Terry is long for this world now :( I've seen it too many times when someone like him loses the love of their life in such a vulnerable age. Please still be well, Funker, you've got a lot of people than you know who love you.
My favorite Terry Funk moment was the Empty Arena Match with Jerry Lawler back in the 80s.
"My eye!" 🤣
From the Double Cross Ranch in Amarillo, Texas, middle aged and crazy. Terry Funk. May he live the rest of his life in peace.
Orndorff has dementia. Now funk has dementia. Too many chair shots and potatoes to the noggin could be the culprit for a lot of these guys. It’s sad.
Maybe why Foley doing childern other books so can have some normal fun left before may happen to him
@@tonyslicer7399 Right? If there is anyone that’s prone to a dementia diagnosis it’s that cat. I sure hope it never happens though.
Prayers to Terry Funk and the Funk family and wishing him the best. The man is a wrestling legend. Double Cross Ranch 4 ever.
If you don't think Terry Funk is one of the top 5 best of all time, you're simply wrong.
Well then I guess I’ll have to live with being “wrong”. He’s an awesome guy and great wrestler but he’s not top 5.
For just the longevity he is, so your DEAD wrong there
@@jpsweeney6833 so doing something for a long time automatically means you’re the best? That’s an awful argument. Terry funk a man who did SO much for the business and NEVER asked for ANYTHING in return a true GOAT in every sense of the word
His health declining seems inevitable. He had a 50 year plus career and he never took it easy in the ring even 1 night.
He's near 80. I doubt wrestling has that much to do with it. He's just an older man now
@@facejobby it does, both do. aging plus 50 years of wrestling will affect anybody
@@FlechFisher Of course. My point is that age is likely the overriding factor
Terry Funk is one that should always be #1 in consideration for any Mount Rushmore of Wrestling type discussion. There is almost no one who comes close.
Dementia is a rough illness that we all will go through eventually. Hopefully he gets the care he needs.
Everyone does not deal with the disease.
I became a fan from his 2 year stint in WWF to WCW to ECW! I even use his tag line:
"Middle Aged and crazy, crazy like a fox! Meaner than a rattlesnake and tougher than shoe leather"!
Rock on, Terry, 'til ya can't rock no more!
To quote Terry Funk, "That was no woman, that was Ric Flair." (Wish I could find that promo.)
Is that the Beautiful Dream promo?
I still remember the first time I ever saw Terry Funk. I was a little kid, & It was one of the early episodes Saturday Night’s Main Event…probably around 1985 or 1986, and Terry was the #1 contender for the WWF Championship, and the Main Event was Terry Funk VS Hogan for the world title. I remember watching his crazy promo at the start of the show & then he spit the tobacco chew into the camera…I was instantly hooked!
This is heartbreaking. I love the Hardcore Legend.
Although Cornette’s impression of the Funker did make me feel a little bit better.
'Forever' Terry Funk
Terry Funk...true LEGEND.
Terry funk is the living embodiment of Professional wrestling. Man should have a statue built in his hometown and outside of K-Hall In Japan. No disrespect to other legends but Terry is the greatest alive.
I'm a PCA and a Pro Wrestling fan. I would love to work in an Assisted Living Facility with a legend like Terry Funk. Imagine the stories this man has to share with people. I'd answer his pages quicker than anyone else just to spend all the more time with him. He's got a lot of years left.
The fact that Funk isn't in the hall of fame but the bella twins are is criminal.
He isn’t in the Hall? Gotta one of the most glaring omissions
@@terminallumbago6465 he is but under the funks not as a singles wrestler. I mean thats not good enough.

@@terminallumbago6465 I know, but they got in before people like big show. This is the same company that think new day is a better tag team then the road warriors and the rock n roll express.
I was lucky enough to meet him during his NWA champion run. My Mom and I were having dinner at a restaurant close to MLG in Toronto before wrestling that Sunday night. Terry walked in to have dinner . He was awesome to this 12 year old !! Even asked where we were sitting. Looked as he walked out and up the ramp , saw us and waved right us. Very classy man !!!!
The Terry voices from both Brian & James E. are fantastic.
So sad to hear this news. Get well mr funk.
I would make the argument at 2:57 that Glenn Jacobs(Kane) is also in that category where I haven't heard a story of anyone talking bad about him and one of the nicest guys to meet despite him looking like a freaking train
I will always be thankful to Terry Funk for taking Mick Foley under his wing and teach him so much. Reading about their relationship was heartwarming and good to see in the business. I hope he's at ease.
I met him in a bar about 15 years ago. Super nice guy. I still remember how big and thick his hand was when I shook it.
Dementia, regardless of the version, is a horrible disease. My heart goes out to anyone who has it or who is around it, and those who are the caregivers for it.
Forever The Funker
Forever. And ever
I am with Brian on “Desperado”, lol; “Man With A Harmonica” from Once Upon A Time In The West seems to fit Terry a lot better, which I think he used in 1989 in the NWA.
Absolutely agree. They also sometimes slanted the camera just slightly or focused on him really slowly to give him a more cinematic type of entrance. That plus that music made it sound like death was coming to the ring. I always loved that at the time and the slight blur to focus and NWA music combination for when the great Muta came to the ring.
Mr. Funk is a living legend and a National Treasure!
Terry Funk will go down as one of the top 10 or 20 American wrestlers of all time, mark my words. In the next few years, as his legacy really begins to be appreciated, he'll be up there with Flair, Bockwinkel, Sammartino, etc.
Terry will be 78 this year and it's obvious his health has been on the decline for some time, so this is hardly surprising. Time catches up with everyone.
Mick Foley said in an Instagram Post, that he believes the kinds of matches he and Terry Funk did in the Original ECW and Japan most likely lead to Mr. Funk's current mental state.
Thumbs up for support and love. Prayers going out to him!!!
Just saw Chainsaw Charlie and Cactus Jack on Raw last night circa98
Were you at my place
I was first made aware of Terry Funk in the early 90s WCW tag team with Bunkhouse Buck. I really wish the best for Terry.
After hearing their impressions of Terry Funk, was it Funk's influence that made Mick Foley / Cactus Jack cut promos in a similar voice?
Sometimes it seemed like a mix of that and ICW era Randy Savage promos!
Little known fact about terry funk..he choreographed the whole ending fight scene, between tommy Gunn and rocky,at the end of rocky 5!!!
He’s working the staff, he’ll pop up on a Texas show any time now to start his next run
My friend, who is 41 and only a bit older than me, had a heat stroke, had a 110 degree temperature, spent a week in a coma, and just woke up.
Terry Funk could carry
a territory all by himself .
best wishes champ .
My favorite Funk story is when he told undertaker mick was dead after he fell through the roof of cell and taker told Terry he's not dead then he chokeslammed Terry and Foley said where did those shoes come from.
After his ECW matches and his japoneze death matches I am surprised Terry Funk can still breath
You ain't lying

Btw anybody noticed Jim's getting a lot of advertisers these past few months. Nice!! That means business is doing good.
And yet Lawler is STILL working
Good Ol' Terry Funk!! I loved him in Friday Night Lights!!
If there is ever a biography that needs to be done, it should be Terry Funk. I would love to get his take on the business.
Cross decades who has given you more memorable moments ..the empty arena match with Lawler ...the feud with JYD .. plus he might have had the greatest WWF intro with Mel Phillips.
Good god that impression has me *cryin* with laughter 🤣🤣🤣
Someone needs to make a compilation of everyone doing a Funk impression. I could listen to that for hours til my stomach hurts from laughing!
I had the great opportunity to watch Terry wrestle many times at the local arena and many more times on TV from Amarillo. Never saw a bad Terry Funk match. Prayers and best wishes for him.
I was hoping to hear Jim's Terry Funk impression. I was not disappointed!
Am I the only one that misses the Chainsaw Charlie Gimmick?!… 👀
I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.
Had it been ANYONE ELSE, I would have been pissed. But Terry is teflon and nothing sticks to him because of sheer integrity. I mean JR started referring to Chainsaw as Funk almost immediately! Funk is and always will be the gold standard. I know Foley was doin the schizo Mankind/Cactus gig at the time too, so something was in the air.
There may be a whole family of legendary Funks, but there’s ONLY 1 FUNKER!!
Stay string & get well Terry…we love you! 💪
I remember Terry was on a episode of beyond belief as a wrestler
Get well soon Terry

I always love and enjoy the Shotgun Saturday Night episode with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Terry Funk.👍
I grew up on the west coast..first time I saw him wrestle was in ecw barely legal ppv in 97. I remembered him from road house, the movie...indy and southern wrestling was never aired out west
I actually remember the sick horse story from one of Foley’s books. 😆
My favorite Funk stories are about his dog "Cooter".
I hungout with terry and mick Foley a little bit at a wrestlemania access about 15 years ago.
I met Mr Funk and his lovely wife in Atlanta. A Class Act.
Watch January 3, 1998 episode of ECW. How much Terry meant to Tommy Dreamer. How much he is meant to so many people in ECW and the business. Desperado video for terry still makes me cry. I know there is going to be day when terry's pass away. Never going to be ready for it.
I liked Funk's Grill. This is the best Wrestling Pod cast.
God bless Terry Funk at the 50 years of Funk show in Amarillo in ‘97 or ‘98 I got to go to the ranch and meet Mr. Funk and he couldn’t have been nicer. I wish him happiness and good health!
Ahh man it's sad this I grew up watching this guy he's had such a good run. Be chilled now brother enjoy the twilight years! Be comfortable!

Remember 1st seeing Terry Funk in the WWF back in the 80's facing off against Junkyard in a hellacious feud and the off time challenging Hulk Hogan for the WWF World Title (Have their Saturday Night's Main Event match on dvd . ) only to come up short . Then Dory Funk Jr . came in and they were a tag team managed by Jimmy Hart . Then saw him in in the NWA attacking Ric Flair after he regained the World Title and the matches that they had against eachother . Their I Ouit match at Clash Of The Champions was a brawl to say the least . Favourite matches with Funk were when he was with IWA Japan and wrestled Cactus Jack in 2 No Rope Barbed Wire Death Matches the 2nd match being the King Of The Death Matches Tournament and both matches were brutal . Got familar with his ECW days and some of the matches he had there were insane as was his matches with Atsushi Onita in Japan with FMW All of which i own on both vhs and dvd . Have seen his Empty Arena match with Jerry "The King " Lawler and a USWA World Title match against Lawler with Funk as defending champion and a few matches he did with WCW and XPW .Funk is a true legend in the business and sad to hear that his health isn't the greatest but he's doing okay . Just want to wish the Funker well and hope that he's living comfortbly . 1 of my favs right up there with Cactus Jack as true hardcore legends . Respect and salute .
I was scared to death of Terry, Nikita Koloff and Kamala as a kid and they were the nicest people I’ve ever met. I was really shocked when Koloff was speaking better English than me, gave a Bible to my son and myself and invited me to his church in Minnesota. Terry is hands down one of the greatest ever. I know that listing the best is a hard task but I’d rank Terry in my top 10 easily. I loved Roddy Pipper too. I saw him a couple of weeks before he died at a convention in Knoxville .I’d sat a $100 budget and was broke I just wanted to shake his hand and tell him again how much he meant . His manager said something like $20 for a picture and $40 for an autograph. Pipper said no, no , f-ck that. You don’t have to give me a dime. I told him I just wanted to say hello but Pipper started singing a lot of things and took a few pictures with me.
