Being from West Virginia, I was shooting a rifle (.22) before I could ride a bike. BUT my PMI at Parris Island made me a better Rifleman for the Marine Corps. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt.
Before optics (1965) the most important lesson from my PMI was sight alignment. When the front sight was half way up and centered in the rear sight aperture with M14/M16. Lots of bullseye and expert badge resulted.
Funny...alot of "old school" Marine corps marksmanship videos on youtube. Basically they taught me everything about shooting and sights. I can adjust any rifle and scope now. Thank you for your service.
The best job I ever had was being a PMI. I was at Parris Island from July, 1964 to December, 1966. Humbled to say I had the highest percentage of qualified Marines and re-wrote the training manual my last two months in the Corps. Proud to say I am just one of six Marines in my family. Semper Fi
I remember my PMI on Pendleton from 2011. He was an 06' Fallujah veteran red-headed, probably 130lbs soaking wet, and a 7 year Corporal who was an 0331 by trade. He had the calmest, yet most sincere and serious demeanor when teaching me and the other recruits marksmanship fundamentals.
My sentiments exactly. My Edson range PMI in 1977 was Ssg Hunter. He treated us with respect, was patient and to this day, I think of him with fondness. When the war started in 2003, I was able to serve once again (in an Army uniform) and one of my many jobs was being a PMI. Sadly, my troop handlers in Infantry training School (ITS), now School of Infantry (SOI) were unprofessional. They assaulted us, tortured us, so it's nice to have fond memories of something at Pendleton.
PMI Sgt Lambo. such a good teacher, never shooting a weapon, he taught what i needed to know. Shooting felt natural when i first shot. also advice for recruits, dont get too comfortable with the PMI amd their chillness, trust me.
I was no where near the best shot, but the principals of proper posture, sight alignment, sight picture on a blurry target , steady breathing and proper trigger manipulation are a metaphor for the proper execution of anything in life... Semper Fi.
That was my favorite part of boot camp but because I had bad habits from not being taught correctly I almost unc'd . shoot toilet seat by the skin of my ass. Now years latter I think I could shot expert. but never given the chance in my 6 years as 2111 to requal . Would love to shot the course again at 54 years old. if anyone can make it happen let me know
@@philhawyer5935 for sure I am as well but people love to throw out that “every Marine is a Rifleman” which is far from true. Ik 0311s who don’t deserve to call themselves Rifleman... sadly, but Rifleman is a billet and an MOS not a title. And to even say that every Marine is a Basic Rifleman is also ignorant, I don’t remember half the shit I was taught in ITB and you expect me to believe some dude who went to MCT and goes on 1 watered down field op a year is a Basic Rifleman. Also Table 1 is a joke “decent fundamentals” but nonetheless a joke
Saying you are tip of the spear is one thing, yeah the rear hits just “qualified” but then they get to the fleet and unq like it’s nobody’s business. They don’t give a crap and shoot terribly even the grunts with the IAR’s they think that are the best and can’t even qual. -Coach 29 Palms
He puts his soul into this, he was my pmi in bootcamp
Hell yeah sgt Aladdin!
The best PMI there is.

I am a PMI btw
What was the career path to PMI like? Would one be able to join with the explicit intent to pursue that role?
Rah
If you’re not an 0311 guess what. You’re not a Rifleman
Jesus Gonzalez seen plenty of 03 dudes unq even with the m27 shockingly enough pogs have a higher qual rate than grunts
EVERY Marine is a basic rifleman.
Im not a PMI, but I’m a coach at Quantico MCB and ive seen more POGs with Experts than all these grunts who are complete ass on the range
